Mixture of beauty and innocence with the strength of the nature – I aim to be like that

Flowers, no matter where they grow,

they are always beautiful.

They see all seasons and still stay beautiful,

they don’t change and always stay the same.

I wish I can be like them.

Nature has so much to teach,

if only we can stop for a moment and listen.

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

Finally I have done it. Yes, it was awesome to try 10 different cuisines in less than two months. It felt like living and breathing the culture for the moment when I was in these restaurants as I went for traditional places and traditional dishes. Even turned myself into non-vegetarian and it was worth knowing the real taste from these many different countries and culture. Today as the last but not the least cuisine as per my bucket list became African food. And it was just delicious. I am not going to stop here and will try more cuisines in future as this task has proved to be very freeing one as I have opened up to new things in this area of food as well 🙂

Imaginary Lock on Life

               20130622_165224

20130622_165212 20130622_165150

Its amazing I think, how we lock ourselves in these imaginary restrictions and boundaries in life and keep ourselves from the true happiness and freedom. It is our ultimate right to be free but how many of us are truly free and do things that we love or like. We might be free in the books but in reality we do have many locks on our soul and mind. How many days do we get up and think what I would love to do today? Not many of us really, or atleast go to work with a happy mind and soul. We need to start thinking of life as a journey and realize that there are better ways to live through it – by enjoying and accepting the moments, people and feeling that we come across. Life is short – every one is telling us to be happy but can I do that for you? No, you have to help yourself as each and every individual is enjoying their own journey. Parents can guide and help the children but as human being we interact with each other but the path of life is something we have to choose and we have to walk through it. Its not difficult, believe me or believe yourself for it as what you will think is what you will become eventually.

Break these locks and free yourself, there is a beautiful world out there if you havn’t realized yet. It’s waiting for you to cherish each and every moment you spend as human being and before you move on from this state of being to another and merge into the universe again. Pain can be there in your life but are you going to stop living then? You are still here on Earth, on this journey then why not try to make this experience worthwhile. And once this journey of life will end then you would not have a chance to go back and change the way you lived it. Also do not try to change your past as it is against nature and that’s the way nature has created the whole universe that we move on and do not go back in time ever. If nature doesnt change it then why would you. After all who you are today is because of your past. And how do you think you could have been any better if something else would have happened. If you can’t change the past then why waster your present by thinking about it as then again the next time you look back the current present will be your past and you would realize you havn’t achieved much still. And this is the cycle that will go on forever. Get out of this rut and accept what has happened. Then only you will be able to live in present and then this present will become a better past in your life. That is what I am doing as I realized only recently in my life that I was in the rut of this cycle and was repenting most of the things that have happened in past. I was trying my best to change it and was fighting against nature without realizing that it is impossible.

Now here I am, accpeting my past with my head high – why?  Because I got through all the bad things that came to my life and most of them must have been my own imaginazations of worst as everything happens to us is the only thing that can happen to us in life, universe provides us what we ask for – either conciously or sub-conciously. And I can say that I have been through some kind of hell in my life if any exisit really. So if you think that you want to live a full life before this journey ends then do it now – Make a decision to live and you will eventually. You do not have to spend money for that, you don’t even have to travel or buy anything, all you have to do is see this life as a journey and all the bad things as accidents that happened in some point of time while you were in this train of your body that is moving forward every moment you breathe. And you can either choose to shut your eyes or you can choose to open your eyes and enjoy the view and feel the universe with your heart, soul and mind. I am doing it and I can say that it feels magestic. I am still practicing this as we are trained to do stuff and that’s how we start  working in life all the time which makes it hard to understand the truth and see the reality around. But I will share my journey with you all as it would be great if any one even tries to live life fully as that would start the process and you wouldn’t be far from ultimate peace.

Painful days but worth it – ATV ride and a fall in Cairns

Hello Friends,

As you would have already seen from my diving pics in Great Barrier Reef, I had an awesome weekend. It was not all sweet but then how can be things interesting with no down side to them. So it all started with this bucket list of mine. And here I am all happy, content but every inch of my body is shouting at me after this weekend. It is so sore and painful that every time I move my hand or legs or neck, it reminds me of the adventure I had this weekend 😉

So how did I get this sore as diving doesn’t make you this sore after all not when you have been diving for a while. Here it goes – I did have a big day driving ATV around the farm before I did my diving and before the second dive I fell badly on the floor face down. I did try to compete with the expert there and jumped my ATV over many hurdles and kept getting faster and faster. Even scared the instructor when I flew my ATV just a few inches away from his ATV and he almost stood up and got ready to jump from his ATV to save himself. And I am not sure it was my fault or what that I did take all the force on my hands to save my face and of course no scar on my face but hands are almost useless  other than typing on the computer. Yesterday I was struggling to cut even an apple.  How did I fell? Don’t even ask as it was as a matter of fact very funny incidence the way it happened and gave every one around a reason to have a laugh. The wet suit was very small and of a different design so like first dive I had to get help to get into it but unfortunately a very big guy came for help and lift the suit (me in it) and chain opened so fast that the very next moment I was on the floor facing down. Thank God I was few inches away from the door otherwise you would be looking at my Terminator kind of melting face picture 😉

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week

But anyways have fun with my pictures driving ATV and that can be counted as one of the new things I did last week in my bucket list 🙂

Diving and Snorkelling at Great Barrier Reef – Bucket-List 2013 Week 8

Item Number #32 – Dive and snorkel the Great Barrier Reef

It was a cloudy day and I had only 3-4 hours of sleep as I was staying in a backpacker where everyone was in party mood and after my experience of divign with Great White Shark I was more cautious to be fully awake and in good shape before diving in the world famous reef – ‘Great Barrier Reef’. But it was not good enough I guess as I was accompanied by a guy from USA who was  feeling sick and at first me and his friend were making jokes about throwing up and soon I myself got sick as well. It was a bumpy ride of 2.5 hours to the reef from the harbour of Cairns. But I think water is remedy for everything and as soon as I jumped into the water after gearing up for my scuba diving, I was once again smiling. It was a short (23 minutes), 15.7 meter deep dive. I loved it as this was the reason I had started Scuba Diving in the first place – to be able to dive in Great Barrier Reef. And here I was diving in this famous reef which is unfortunately getting destroyed by cyclones and fishing in past few years. I went for snorkelling after first dive and then for the second dive. It was hard to stay in the boat and not feel sick so I preffered to spend most of my time under water 🙂 It was such a nice day in my life, I met lots of people, made new friends and even being so sore didn’t matter anymore :)I am sharing my pics of that day with you all. I hope you enjoy them.

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

It was amazing to have French Tomato-ey Ratatouille on Friday afternoon in Sydney with a friend of mine and Creole Jumbalaya with Voodooz Conrbread with my buddy in diving on Sunday night in Cairns. Different cusines in different places was something I enjoyed the most last week I must admit and this bucket list of mine made sure that I remember to try something new when I was on my diving trip to north of Australia in Cairns. Cafe Nice in Circular Quay, Sydney, not only provides you with taste but a very nice ambience with price that fits in budget. Sounds very delicious right, I know. Also Voodooz in Cairns has a very traditional Cajun (New Orleans Style) food. Also I did try Portuguese burger and it was very yumm

Here is the list of food that I have already tried so far and I am pretty close to complete my list it seems as I was able to add 3 more cusines last week. One more to go and this is complete as well 🙂

Top 5 crazy things you can do in India

India is a land of spirituality and festivals. People go to India for different reasons. Some of them are listed here:

Spiritual Meditation Yoga
Exotic Culture Food
Travel a new country Attend a marriage Seventh wonder – Taj Mahal
Stop Over Work Study – very less
Trekking Adventure Live

But there is a crazy side of India as well and five of them you can do are listed here.

  1. Diving with elephants – You must have heard of diving with sharks, whales, dolphins and many other sea life creatures, but elephants. Yes, you can do such things in India in Andaman. Its a good location for diving. Emerald Isles is the place where you can either snorkel or dive with this amazing elephant called Rajan.
  2. Feed rats – Don’t throw the food if a rat has bitten it. It doesn’t sound very appealing right, but there is a temple in India where people feed rats and eat the food bitten by rat with high regards. It is a house for more than 20,000 rats and spotting a white rat is considered auspicious for religious purposes.
  3. Self driven car – It’s very unlikely that you will get a car that can drive itself. But something that can never happen anywhere can happen in India. Yes there is a place in Ladakh called Magnetic Hill where if you stop your car and put it to neutral then it will start moving at the speed of 10-20 KM per hour. No it is not a ghost town but there are some
  4. Live in a tree house  – Why not, live the dream you had since your childhood and live in the tree house in Kerala. Vythiri Resort provides a comfortable to live in a tree house where you will have all the luxury you can imagine with an amazing view of this bird territory.
  5. Auto-rickshaw race – Now this is not so out-of-the-box after all. But still sounds a bit wired. This challenge  is called MUMBAI XPRESS. This 14 days challenge will cover 1900 KM (approx. 1180 miles) and can be done in a team of two. It starts every year in August from Mumbai and ends in July in Chennai. You can see the variety of the geography (from hills to valley and beaches) doing this if you ever fancy going completely crazy. http://www.rickshawchallenge.com/trips/mumbai-xpress/

How to save money to travel

  1. Cut back on the movie night outs and get a DVD with friends and family and enjoy at home.
  2. Try to prepare healthy meals more at home – saves the cost and you might get into more cooking and that will really help when travelling for long and guess what it will also help you make new friends as people love good food 😉
  3. Make sure that you check your wardrobe before going for shopping as most of the times you might already have enough clothes or other stuff that you might be thinking to buy. So better give the existing stuff a try.
  4. Subscriptions – So many times we subscribe for magazines or other things and pay for them month after month that we never even use. Try to find out if you are paying for something every month and not really using it as much. It’s better to buy it once or twice when you really want it then a monthly or weekly supply in that case.
  5. Party – Many of us love partying, but it is always possible to throw some economic ones where everyone can bring their own booze and something to share. More variety to share and no one has the burden to do a lot.
  6. Alcohol – This used to make a big hole in my pocket every time I used to go out as this used to deduct a good amount from my budget while travelling. Now it wouldn’t be the case as I quit drinking, but you can also save some money by making sure that you do not drink too much outside as it is far more expensive to drink in the pub or bar, even better if you can get your friends at home and buy from the wholesale shop as that’s cheaper as well. Dry July in Australia is also a good way to stop drinking for a month as it will immensely motivate you to save and then once you know how much you can save by not drinking, you might be tempted to do it more often.  Just keep a jar in the kitchen or a place where you can see it regularly and put the money in the jar whenever you think of drinking and label it a picture of your dream destination – mine is Greece 🙂
  7. Try to take a walk every now and then instead of warming your car every time you get out of house as this will do some good to you health wise and also will save you some bucks.
  8. Make a list of things that you do on regular basis – hobbies, outing with friends or family and try see the activities where you might be spending more money and see if you can reduce the frequency of those activities and replace them with less expensive activities. Example: Go outdoor rock-climbing than indoor that way you can save the cost for entry every time you go for rock climbing and will get more experience in the real world.
  9. Many times when we are free then we tend to spend more money without realizing at times so my advice would be to take upon some hobbies like hiking, cycling or running as this will give something to utilize your time and will be good for your health at the same time.
  10. Make new friends with the similar objectives to save money either for travelling or house or something else. As this will help you to get motivated and also you wouldn’t be forced to spend more money each time you go out.
  11. Many creative activities are not so expensive as writing, photography or painting etc. This way you can still live a fun life without getting bored and still saving for your travel.
  12. Make sure you are staying in reasonably priced place as this can be a big part of your weekly/monthly expenses whereas you need a place to sleep every night and relax really. I myself live in a place which is comfortable enough but not very expensive on the other side. At times I get tempted to get my own place but that means easily three times the expenses and when I travel I live in backpackers anyways so why spoil the habit way too much. So it is very important that you choose carefully where you live.
  13. Make sure your phone plan is according to your usage as sometimes we hardly use the credit we pay for or we get a plan for everything but we never even use much of it. This seems like small thing but we have number of such expenditure that accumulates into big money.
  14. Also because you are planning to travel so make sure you do not buy anything extra unnecessary that you might have to get rid of soon.  If you can cut back on any new expenses then do that. I have not bought even a single piece of furniture other than a single bed since I moved to Australia for last 2.5 years. No TV not evens a heater. People think I am rich but I would say that I am really good with savings as I have no support but myself to do all the things I have been done in my life since a very early age so I would give credit to my ability to save and know my priorities well.
  15. Use online banking often to see how much money have you got in your account and try not to use credit card too much as it makes you lose account of the money you owe very easily and next thing you know – you are in big debt and that becomes another reason not to be able to travel. Also if you do use credit card then sign up for rewards on credit cards.
  16. If you put your heart on travelling then it’s a good advice to be extremely cautious before taking any loan as that can restrict you with time and money both. Go for house loan only when you are sure you can rent it out for good amount of money when you go away and still pay the mortgage as that is one of the biggest reason people can’t travel many times. Once you are done travelling there will be plenty of opportunity to think about such long time commitments but till then it’s better to keep an eye on your ambitious plans about owning things.
  17. Make a list of things you might like to do before you travel and then prioritise them as many times there are things that make you happier and are less expensive to do so this will give you a clear picture as to what you might like to do to save money and still stay happy.
  18. Open a saving account and transfer some money to that account when you get your salary and forget about it as this will make sure that you are saving some money every month no matter what. And then either you can contribute to it more or take out from it in case of emergency.
  19. Take up another job if you can and also think of starting something new that can help you support while you are travelling. Example: online business, travel blog etc.
  20. Keep an eye on the flight deals for the various destinations. Also few airlines give cheap tickets on certain days of the week so better plan accordingly as it can easily make difference of 10% to 50% sometimes.
  21. See if you can do without the gym membership as sometimes a good gym can cost quite a bit. And if you are already doing hiking or running outside then you can keep some weights and few other things at home and make a mini gym to work out for no fee at all.
  22. Buying used stuff can sound not so good but at times it is worth considering for furniture and other stuff if you really need it. Also make sure you can differentiate between the things you may want and things that you need. As many times we have huge expenses over things that we want and not really need.
  23. Deals and coupons’ are a great way to save money. Since I have moved to Australia I myself have done so many things with some very good deals. And if you are flexible enough then you can get yourself a very good deal for the things you want to do or for food outlets.
  24. Sometimes we have so many things that we can use so go for a garage sale and try to get rid of the stuff you don’t need. This is a win-win as you make money and also get rid of extra stuff.
  25. Make a diary if you can with some pictures of various places you want to go in the front few pages and write down the inflow and outflow of money every month. You can do it with the online banking and see how much you are earning, how much you are saving and how much you are spending. Once you make this habit then you will start thinking in the direction of saving money and you will be able to come up with new ideas to save money as a way to go to these dream destinations. Think how much fun it would be to sit in one of the most beautiful locations in the world and think about all the smart thinking you put in all this planning that successfully got you there. It is worth doing I promise.

Why do I travel?

As a human I am gifted with different senses, emotions and witty nature. I was thinking today to write few reasons why do I love travelling. I felt that it’s the basic need for me to feel human and it is something that keeps me in touch of reality. So I am writing the reasons here in my way – Why do I travel?

  • Eyes: I have been gifted with these eyes to see everyday so I want to see what ever this world has to offer. I can choose on my way to close my eyes when I do not want to witness the cruelty of others but I can still look into other’s eyes with compassion and love. I want to express myself to as many people as I can and try to know them better.
  • Skin: We have this amazing ability to feel the touch, I want to feel like a kid again and close my eyes to feel the sensation of touching something different and new everyday. I want to touch the rock in a different country, I want to take sand in my hands and see it getting washed away with water.
  • Ears: I have ears to hear so I want to indulge myself into the music of various kind. I want to hear others to know what they have to say. I want to hear the noise and voice of wildlife creatures. I want to listen to the waves soaring, rivers roaring and wind blowing.
  • Mouth: I want to talk to people from different part of the world. I want to hear how they speak their language and how they pronounce different words. I want to try and speak their language if I can.
  • Lips: I want to smile as much as I can as its the simplest act that can do wonders I feel.
  • Legs: I have been given these legs to be mobile so no reason for me to crib and sit at one place all day. I want to walk around the cities, villages, towns, forests and run in the farms, hike the mountains and drag myself to bed 🙂
  • Tongue:  Why restrict myself from the distinct taste that various cuisines have to offer. I want to immerse myself in the nice aroma of the food all over the world.
  •  Nose: I want to smell the flowers, water, wet soil, farms, food and much more all over the world.
  • Hands: I want to give a helping hand to someone in need when I travel. I want to shake hands and make new friends. I want to give a hug to someone close to my heart. I want to a gesture of friendliness to strangers.
  • Brain: I want to use it more into creating new ideas, solving problems at hand while travelling. I want to innovate and think new concepts to make every one around happy.
  •  Heart: I want to love myself and others. I want to love nature, love the wildlife, love people. I want to stop being choosy and love unconditionally.
  •  Soul: I want to give peace to my soul. I do not want to bother my soul from the nitty gritty of life but I rather would like to relax and be happy.

All this happens naturally when I travel. I feel closer to myself and closer to nature when I travel.

I would summarise it in one line what it means to travel for me – ‘I finally found myself after getting completely lost’. Now that I have found myself I do not want to loose sight of it even for a moment.

I believe that we have been gifted with this beautiful planet that we call Earth. It is so big and full of wonders then why not explore it while we are on this journey of life. Why not get to know how it feels to get up every day and see a new view from the window. Why limit ourselves because the possibilities are limitless. Let’s travel or at least see the world with new eyes and accept ourselves with big and open heart with love, compassion and kindness. You don’t have to travel to far away places to do any of this if that’s what limiting you but you can rather adopt the thinking of a traveller and you will be able to see the same place you walk everyday with new eyes, you will be able to walk to work and will be able to see more, you will be able to explore new parks around the corner, natural resources for your new found happiness. I think you can change the world if you change yourself for good. Use your imagination to create a happy world out there and to do that just create a happy place inside and you will see the world changing outside at the same time.

Kayaking in Nepal – Some serious fun

It was one of the best experiences I had that continued for 4 days unlike many other adventures that last only few hours. Yes, I am talking about my experience of Kayaking in Nepal this year. I paddle river Trisuli being relatively new to this sport. But I am determined to go back to Nepal to kayak in more than one river this time as it has got a lot to offer. It’s was one of the best holiday where we were staying in camp site and had proper meal for three times with snacks in between. All we had to do was have breakfast and go for kayaking, take a break for lunch and then paddle again for few hours and come back for evening tea. Then we played volleyball with the locals and then get ready for delicious dinner. It couldn’t have been better as all we had to do was lots of adventure all day. Nepal is one of the best and cheap places to kayak with some of the world’s best rivers. Nepal has got a lot to offer from hiking to paragliding, kayaking to rafting and so much more. I can’t wait to go back to do more of everything. I would give you some overview of the various rivers that you can run in Nepal. You can hire all the gears and the kayak there only so no need to pack everything from home with you. But some essentials would be good to have:

IMG_3987 IMG_3999

Gears required: Kayak, life jacket, helmet, wetsuit, dry bags for gears, tent (if you are camping on the way to the final destination), and personal gear bag

Items that you would need for camping (minimum requirement): Sleeping bag, light weight pants, a fleece style jacket, toiletries, light weight sleeved t-shirt, spare glasses, water bottle, long sleeved thermal top and bottoms, light weight hiking boots, toilet paper and lighter, day pack (depending whether you are hiking to get to the river trip or not). If you are planning to kayak on your own then you might also have to carry the gears mentioned above with meal and cooking utensils.

Items to carry with you in the river: Sunscreen, sunglasses, shorts, swimwear, river sandals (they are handy when you have to walk in shallow water on the rocks holding your kayak),

Courses: If you are new to Kayaking then you can start with ‘Beginner Kayak Clinic’ course that usually is for 4 days. Otherwise Intermediate and Advanced Kayak Courses are also available here for more experienced paddlers.

Cost: It can cost you around 35 USD to 50 USD per day for food, accommodation and gears, depending upon which river you are paddling. It is good to ask the rates from different tour operators decide according to your budget. Sometimes they also include transport to and from the destination so make sure to ask them beforehand as it’s a long way to get to the camp site sometimes. We got free transport from Pokhara to the camp site and then after we finish the course they dropped us to Kathmandu for free which was our next destination as Trisuli river is same distance both from Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Tour Operators: This is one of the main sources of income in Nepal so there are many tour companies that are involved in this business. Here are links for some of them although once you are there it’s better to check out their shop and have a chat as that will give you more confidence with the people and their services.

Before I start talking about various Rivers in Nepal, here is the definition of various grades of rapids in White Water Rivers:

  • Grade I – Flat water, No rapids
  • Grade II – Bubbling current, small rapids
  • GradeIII – More technical and require more expertise
  • Grade IV & V – Seriously big rapids. Require some kayaking experience and confidence in water since there are possibilities of getting stuck in the whirlpool if the kayak flips or can’t control the direction of kayak
  • Grade VI – Not run by the tour companies due to the serious risk involved

 Rivers

  1. Trisuli – It is great for beginners or good for experienced paddlers to warm up before they go for other rivers. It is easily accessible from Kathmandu as well as Pokhara. This river swells enormously during the monsoon season and that time it is one of the most challenging and dangerous river to paddle.                                                               Duration: 1 – 3 Days, Distance: 60 kilometers Trisuli
  2. Seti – This River is again divided into Lower Seti and Upper Seti. Lower Seti is great for families due to its calm and relaxing water and gentle rapids, whereas Upper Seti is good for intermediate Kayakers. This river Seti has plenty of grades I – III rapids and it provides a scenic view of the valley, forests and a nice white sandy beach.              Duration: 1/2 – 2 Days, Distance: 32 kilometers, Grade: I – IIISeti
  3. Bhote Kosi – This River is great for continuous rapids of grade IV and V at high flow and grade III at lower flows. It is very close to Kathmandu hence easily accessible. Not long but full of fun and adventure and also provide a scenic view of the surroundings. People do get a chance to feel being in a washing machine in the river and have couple of swims generally until unless you are really good with kayaking. This is a perfect river for a roller coaster ride because of the drops it provides. Turkish Delight and Tacos with a new Friend : Bucket-List 2013 Week 7

Oh what a day I just had. It was long and ended with a bad stomach ache. Good news is that I completed one item this week and also close to finish another one.

Item Number #40 – Enjoy tacos and margaritas with a new friend: Sydney

Yes, I did it. I made a friend at friend’s tea party last weekend and had Tacos today with him and sorry the Margarita part would not take place as I quit drinking. But we had some tacos in Newtown, Sydney in ‘Guzman Y Gomez’.

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

So far I have tried the following new cuisines:

  1. Belgian Cuisine
  2. Lebanese Cuisine
  3. Vietnemese
  4. Italian
  5. Spanish

Today I tried Turkish food and it wasn’t a good experience as I got sick after that. Although I feel good as I ticked this cuisine off my list. But I guess it was just one place and cold food that got me a bit sick. Other than that my friend advised me that usually Turkish food is really good so I might try it some other time. Here are some pictures of food.

More Angles to this Building – Queen Victoria Building Part 2

I think either I like Queen Victoria Building a lot or it just happen to be the place I am passing through very often. I can say both really. For those who want to know more about this place I have written another post some time back and here is the link:

Don’t clap too hard – it’s a very old building. – John Osborne

So this time when I was passing through it then I saw it again in a complete different light and from different angles so couldn’t resist taking some pictures. Here they are for you.

Pub Crawl just after I quit drinking : Bucket-List 2013 Week 6

Hi All,

I am back with some stories now. We did have a night filled with fun but it was funny because I had organized this pub crawl when the same day I quit drinking. Can you believe that I had no drinks all night but just juice in a pub crawl 😉 Yes sounds weird but what could I do as I just quit drinking a day before. It was heaps of fun tough.

IMGP1719

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week (this week it was organizing a pub crawl after quitting drinking)

Now you must be wondering why I quit drinking. Yes, there is a reason behind it but more than that a thought was lingering in my mind whenever I crossed a bar and smelled alcohol it didn’t really make me feel good. I didn’t really liked the smell and also the day I quit, night before that I had enough and got myself into trouble as my vision was blurred out after 4-5 drinks and when I tried to catch a bus I had no clue where I was after getting dropped at some point that night. First time after drinking I was scared to death and lost with a dead battery. After wondering on the road for few hours I gave up. Cried a lot thinking how could I be so stupid, really it was some awful hours of my life. Not that I was ever an alcoholic but this day I did realize that drinking with newly made friends can be dangerous as you can be in trouble and be on your own. It was silly of me to get drunk and no dinner contributed to it. But that’s it after the cops saw me and helped me by first comforting me by talking nicely and asking if I need help and then getting me home safely. I then had to think the next day why I even drink. I know I could just drink a little bit less but still I had to give it a thought specially when I am going through this self-realization phase and questioning the things I do in my everyday life without even thinking at times. So it was the time I had to re-think the reasons I was drinking even if it was once a month or once a week.

My life does look perfect to many but trust me it is not. No one is perfect, all we can try to do are the things to make it better and somewhat right in our own perception as the same thing can be wrong in some one else’s perception. So here I was, thinking about how I started drinking and it was for social reasons and it always made easier to get along with people at times while travelling by giving me more confidence to speak my mind. Next I thought I was drinking as I wanted to know how different drinks taste and I did enjoy that to be honest. I tried more than 50 different cocktails last year. And it was really good and I did learned a lot more about wines and bears although I don’t like any bear other than German and Belgian. And what else were the reasons for me to drink, yes one more – I always came back alive with some really adventurous stories after more than a few drinks. Yes, I did swim in the ocean couple of times after drinking and came back alive. There is something about the water that makes me feel its calling me specially when I am too drunk….lol I now sounds really funny or weird I guess. I can’t explain as it does make me feel different and very deep inside when I hear the waves even when sober and I guess many will agree. Anyways so this was it. I had tried many drinks already so not a dire need to do it more, I have enough confidence to talk to any one around now and say whatever I think really and I think people converse better when they are sober anyways. I don’t feel weird dancing without any drinks either now. And adventure I do more without getting drunk anyways so that reason also is not required. So here it was I quit drinking.

2013-05-21 18.28.51 2013-06-07 19.15.29 2013-06-07 19.16.05 2013-06-07 19.28.46

Although every now and then I do think what I might miss if I go to Octoberfest one day 🙂 But never mind it was never a part of my life I really cherish so I can spare myself any more trouble due to it. And you know what I feel really good and proud to take this decision now.

So here I was with bunch of friends on a pub-crawl. I did have to order cranberry juice as it does looks like vodka mix so no body stare at you thinking what are you doing in pub or bar with juice in your hand. Some people do that at times though. I had a list of 7 famous bars that day and it went really well as we visited 6 of them and girls loved it. And it was something I laughed about later as every time I was telling the bar man to give me juice and also saying I just quit yesterday so no alcohol for me please. And some people just loved hearing this as they were not drinking behind the bar anyways.

So here was the last week activity which I would count as something new for the week under my bucket list. Also here is the list of some awesome pubs in Sydney if you are around.

  1. DeVine, 32 Market St, Sydney 2000
  2. Baxter Inn, 156 Clarence Street, Sydney 2000
  3. Mojo Record Bar, 73 York St , Sydney 2000
  4. Stitch Bar, 61 York St, Sydney 2000

Bucket-List 2013 Week 5 – Spanish Food with Sangria and a fun run

Item #50 – Do one thing new each week and Item # 13 Try at-least 10 different cuisines

It was not something I had in my mind that day but sometimes things happened. I was free for lunch and had to go out to get something to eat. Then I realized why shouldn’t I try a new cuisines after all it’s on my bucket list. So I searched  one nice Spanish restaurant to try something authentic. Now I was on my lunch break to nice restaurant called ‘Iberico’ which I didn’t realize was a little bit too far looking at the time for my lunch break. I somehow managed to get there and asked the waiter what’s the most authentic I could have there. I was told that some dish with meatballs and roasted chicken is good. Now it’s already two weeks so I seriously don’t remember what dish I ate to be honest. Sorry about that, but I also decided to try Spanish drink – Sangria. Although it was a drink I seriously think now looking back at the sequence of the events. I waited for quiet a long to get my food and I started questioning my decision to come here for lunch specially when I had to be back by 2:30 PM for a training with the client. Finally my food was there. It was delicious no doubt and Sangria was awesome. Only I had to eat it a hurry which I really didn’t liked. Drinking faster can have some effect on you I can say now.

20130530_133445 20130530_133453 20130530_133809 20130530_133846

I was on my way back when I got a call from others that they are leaving to the venue for the training and if I am around to join as well. By now I could feel the effect of nice Sangria as I was feeling more than happy on the street walking back. I was late and realized that I might not make it on time by this speed and these many crossings in Sydney CBD. I still needed to go back to workplace to get the exact address where I had to go and a notepad. So I headed to work first. And towards the end I realized I was almost jogging my way there. Now I got another call from work asking where I am as the training was about to start in 15 minutes and they are on the way. It gave me a kick and I took my notepad from my desk and noted down the address. Then once I was back on the road, I almost started running. It started to get a bit sweaty and soon I had to take off my overcoat. People started realizing that a girl in heels with some stationary is running so they gave me way which made it easier for me to cross the roads and pavements. Some also gave me a surprising smile and started feeling that I am making friends for few moments. It was overwhelming to see people smiling at me and having a laugh when they saw me running towards them. Soon I heard a voice and saw my boss and others running and trying to catch up with me. ‘Wow’ was how my running effort was described. They were surprised how 5 minutes ago I talked to them from work place and how here I was on a sprint. My boss exclaimed that he saw someone sprinting past and then he realized it is me and they all started running to stop me. For rest of the training session I had to make sure I don’t look funny due to that drink I had. I guess running helped me sober up a little. What a day I had. I would say it consist both – trying a new thing (running for a training on heels) and trying a new cuisines.

So far I have tried the following new cuisines:

  1. Belgian Cuisine
  2. Lebanese Cuisine
  3. Vietnemese
  4. Italian
  5. Spanish

Can I just say – Indian, just joking 😉

Hope you had fun reading this. Don’t try running on heels I can advice 😉

Stairway to Heaven

This is one part of Town Hall in Sydney…I did take some more pics of the same place. This building has so much to offer. You just need a fresh perspective every time you visit there. I was there for few minutes trying to catch the train but it was a nice opportunity to capture some nice shots…coming next 😉

Is it the truth we are seeing or is it our own reflection

I was sitting in the bus on my way to the place I was staying. I casually looked outside the window and took my camera to take some picture out of boredom. But guess what I think it kicked some thought process the moment I saw the first picture I took. It was like the truth of life – we see others with a layer of our perception of the world. These pictures were showing me the way we look at life – with our perception of other things. We always have a layer just like these rain drops when we see this world and people in it. We need to change that as reality is not always as we see it.

How can we do it? That’s a good question as it might sound very difficult to do in many ways as we are what we are with our perceptions really. I would give some tips on this. Try to detach yourself emotionally from things, places, people and then see things as a third person. As the same person has a different image for different people around. How come that is possible that a person is bad for you and good for someone else at the same time. This means we need to change the way we see things if we really want to know the truth. Same goes for ourselves as we can feel that we are awesome whereas others might have totally different perception of ourselves. For example when I was in college I used to be a book worm and I used to listen to my parents all the time so I had this good image of myself. Whereas the other students in the class felt I was very rude as I was always studying and never interacted much with others. It was only very late when I got feedback from people who came to know me quiet well that how I was perceived around the others in the college. Nothing I could do about it as it was the time we left college anyways. But now I look back and feel that I have changed myself a lot and now I get the feedback saying that I come across a very friendly and confident person, even though I feel at times that I am introvert sometimes.

It can be really hard to see the reality most of the times as we are human beings and are full of various emotions. Emotions make that extra layer on top of our perceptions. So all we need to do is try to see ourselves being a friend as that will help overcoming the emotions first and then we will get more freedom around ourselves to see things more clearly. Do let me know what do you feel or think when you see rain?

Don’t Drink before Diving with Great White Sharks – Bucket-List 2013 Week 5

Finally with a cup of ginger and lemon tea I am gaining my senses back. It’s been quiet a long period I would say since I had left for Adelaide and from a simple weekend away gateway it turned into a roller coaster adventure with a lot of things packed into very few days.

Item Number #23 – Swim with White Sharks and Item Number #10 – Try couch surfing in Australia

Eyeballing the cage

I left for the Airport to complete another item on my bucket list and it was couch surfing and visit one of the 7 new city/town in next 7 months. It was a cloudy day in Adelaide and I was not sure what I will be doing in this part of South Australia looking at the weather. All I had planned was to book a return ticket and arranged to couch surf there. Other than this I had no clue what I am supposed to do in this new place. I am getting used to of this now – going to a new place with no plan and do stuff there accordingly. Only if I knew I will end up encountering a dozen sharks after no sleep and few drinks one of these nights I was about to spend in South Australia. Yes right, it is not a good idea to drink if you are going to dive with great white sharks my dear friends. And this is coming from my personal experience.

I arrived at the place I was supposed to stay and there was a surprise waiting for me there. I realized that I was about to meet few fellow couch surfers and talk all day about life and philosophy and learn a lot of new things today. I didn’t have much sleep the day before the flight so I was a bit tired and cloudy weather seemed perfect to relax and wind down after 16 very busy days of my life (including sailing lesson and attending many social events other than trying to come up with many ideas to finish few bucket list items and not to say full time work with two night time deployments). I was feeling so happy to finally get this weekend for myself. I was at the door of my host in Adelaide and Sebastian, fellow German couch surfer welcomed me in this new place. It was a different feeling to be in this house. Something spiritual about the house and peaceful environment. I felt so happy instantly and started to relish the beauty of this new place with a garden, a pet cat and few chicken in the backyard. The lady who was hosting me wasn’t around so Sebastian, who was also couch surfing there gave me a quick run of the place and offered me some Jasmine tea. It was quiet refreshing. We talked about a lot of things including bin diving or so called dumpster diving. The people here were doing some bin diving which I had no clue what it was so I really enjoyed learning about it. And guess what here is a complete guide about it as well – Dumpster-Dive

Then I met another girl named Ariana, who was living there with the host (lady). She is a brilliant and charming 19 years old Indian girl. I enjoyed my conversation with her about India, social problems in India and a lot more. I already felt that I am going to miss staying here once I am back. Marion, the lady who was hosting me here, also arrived from Victoria as she was gone to attend a retreat and we discussed her experience there. Another couch surfer Nick joined us towards the night. Marion is a great lady and an awesome host. Last year she hosted more than 200 people at her place. Amazing right. Here I was enjoying my first couch surfing experience with such an amazement.

Next day I prepared cheesy egg frittata with Nick for three of use (Nick, Sebastian and myself) as Marion already had her breakfast and Ariana had left for her Art school workshop. And guess what it was the best meal I ate after a while, may be because I was cooking 😉 Anyways I felt home at that place and we started making plans for the day when I started checking about Shark Diving in the area as mentioned by Ariana a day before. I am not sure what came over me and I booked the returned ticket to Port Lincoln in another two house for the dive as it was one of the things on my bucket list. I was lucky when I called the tour company and they say the tour is being operated everyday and there are quiet good chances to see shark these days. Only issue was my return flight was around 6:30 PM and the tour doesn’t usually end till late evening. I was a bit in mess now as I had to be back somehow to be back at work on Monday morning. Here I was sitting in-front of the chair and wanted to bang my head against the wall thinking of my hastiness at times. But any ways I saw this as an opportunity to complete the task on my bucket list and felt quiet enthusiastic and somehow I felt I can make it and things will be alright. So I booked a night in Port Lincoln and early morning (6 AM) tour for cage diving with the great white dangerous sharks. I left Adelaide with a note that if they don’t hear back from me then I might be in some shark’s stomach 😉

I arrived at the hostel where I was staying for the night – YHA. I already started meeting people who were going for the dive or who had done it. I was so excited that I can’t put it into words. I met this group of English guys and had my dinner talking to them about their experience with the sharks and sharing my experience of my bucket list so far. More people joined us and here I was playing different weirdly named card games (one of them was shithead, I wasn’t sure if it was the right name really). I was enjoying the game when everyone started drinking wine and I was offered some as well. I thought for a moment but then joined everyone else. I am not sure what was I thinking really as after few drinks I was not sure how am I going to make it for the early morning departure to the port. And on top of that I agreed to go to the pub with others. Here I was feeling all uneasy with the constant reminder of the tour so I went outside the pub to get some air. The worst was still waiting though. When I wanted to go back the bouncer didn’t allow me in saying that after 1 AM no one is allowed back into the pub. It was one of the most stupid thing I had ever heard whereas the group I came with was still inside. I called a taxi and made my home to get some sleep then. Only when I arrived at the hostel I realized that someone from the group had borrowed my key as they didn’t have their key handy. This was not looking good anymore. Fun time seemed to be over. I had two choices – Try to sleep in the living area in the couch. But then I had to get my key back to check out in the morning. I tried to knock on the door but no one opened the room I was staying. I was already regretting over the decision of drinking tonight. I decided to stay awake till others come back and get my key back to let myself into my room. It was so hard to keep my eyes open. I made my way to the kitchen and made some tea for myself. There was some free food in the fridge and I got some munchies from the shelf to make sure that I am fully awake this night no matter what. It was getting really hard to manage things at this stage now. I was partially awake when after few hours may be around 3 AM when two guys came from the group and asked me what I am doing here. I explained that I do not have the key. They felt sad for me after knowing the whole story and stayed with me in the living room to wait for others to be back so that I can get my key back. I was more assured now that I might be able to make it to the port tomorrow morning.

Finally I got my key around 4 AM and let myself in the room and got ready to sleep for two hours as the tour bus was supposed to be there by 6:30 AM. It was going to be the most ridiculous thing I had ever done I felt. But anyways I was in the flow making my journey more adventurous then it could be I thought. But it was still not that easy. There were many knocks on the door all night as there were quiet a few people drinking from my room and none of them had key. Yes it was a day of loosing key I felt. 6 AM – Someone’s alarm went off. I woke up quickly and saw others getting ready to leave. And I ran after them and realized that they didn’t bother to ask the driver to wait for few minutes. Here I was all ready but had missed my bus. I called the tour company and thankfully they send me another cab. I was finally able to catch the boat.

We all were welcomed with some early morning snacks. And I got introduced to this couple from Perth who were here to celebrate their second anniversary. What a great way to celebrate, although people were making jokes around wife to have a insurance for the husband. I didn’t take much time to drift to deep sleep when we left for a 3 hour journey to Neptune Island for our dive.

Finally some one from the crew woke me up and asked if I can go with the first group. Wow, this was quiet a wake up call now as my stomach was hurting with this bumpy ride till here and I still was suffering from the hangover. Really, Do I look so keen? I felt that it’s better to just go so I accepted to be the part of the first group. And they gave me all the gears to get ready.

It was quiet a relief when I came to know that we do not have to carry cylinder as they had tubes to supply oxygen in the cage. We were soon getting interviewed about how excited we were to see the sharks. To be honest I couldn’t be more dazed doing something like this after a really big night. But I had to smile on the camera no matter what as it was going to be my big moment, if only I survive and not get eaten by any shark interested in me. I finally got into water and felt a surge of excitement in me. My inside diver was coming out full of curiosity. I soon was a normal diver with my brain functioning quiet well now under water. And I started looking for the sharks around. It wasn’t long that we started spotting few of them swimming around. Soon we were a bit shaken in the cage by their excitement to catch the food thrown from the boat. One of them even hit the cage so hard that I had to hold myself back not to swim out the gap in the cage. It was mind blowing to see them so close where I had an eye on the gap as there are stories of small sharks entering the cage through it.

Finally after an hour we went out the cage which was good as I was freezing by then and was done with shark seeing. We had our lunch once we got changed after a shower. I was tired and happy and excited all at the same time. I felt as if I was mesmerized by these beautiful but dangerous creatures. I was so lucky in terms of timing as today it was a small group of people and we got to see shark soon as compared to other days. Hence we headed back way too early – 2 PM. And got back by 4:30 PM and I had enough time to catch my flight back to Adelaide.

Posing with Dani, the host in the tour – she is just awesome 🙂

I am lucky when it comes to meet people I guess as on my way to Airport I got to share the taxi with this another amazing group of Tennis players who shared their experience of traveling around the world and it didn’t let me feel bore on the way to airport or another hour spent there. I was over the moon now after everything was falling in place. When I got back to Adelaide, I went back to the same place I was couch surfing. I met Marion and Sebastian there. I offered to cook some Indian curry and rice. We all shared the meal and it was the perfect way to end this trip really. Next morning my flight was very early (6 AM). Yes, this is early for me usually as I had to be there by 5 AM and that meant I had to get up by 4:30 at least. Marion was so helpful that she offered me lift to the airport in the morning. We enjoyed music – Santana by Carlos Augusto Alves Santana, a Mexican and American musician. I loved it. I was able to catch my flight to Sydney and went to work straight from the airport. I have done it few other times last year so it was OK to see people staring at me thinking I might have lost my way to enter with my big backpack.
