Rueda – Flash Mob in Sydney

First of all apology to be away for long as I have been busy travelling and doing things on my bucket list for this year. I was trying to build my website for this blog to be able to post more pictures and stuff as this website is almost full from the content I posted last year. Here is a link to my new website and I would really appreciate if you visit it and give me some feedback regarding it. Any feedback regarding the performance or how to make it better would be great.

http://kavitajoshitravels.com/2014/05/rueda-flash-mob-in-sydney/

Good news that I have been able to do some really good travelling and also some cool items ticked off from my list. Flash mob is one of them as I have always wanted to do them. I participated in Rueda (form of cuban salsa in community) and it was heaps of fun I must say. You can find some pictures in my new blog 🙂

Why write a bucketlist?

20131222_162729

Ok not that I like to indulge into controversy but I have been thinking for while now after having my own first bucket list (bucketlist 2013)  last year. And this year also I was initially not keen to make one but then I end up writing a few things in it (bucketlist 2014). I was thinking this year if I do need a bucket list or not. Why bucket list? This was the question I asked myself last year as well before writing my list. Well I read some stuff on this as well where I saw both pros and cons of having a bucket list. Some says its good to write down the things you love to do in order to prioritize them in life. Others says it can sabotage you or can make you a tourist and not a traveller if you just do the things in your list all the time.

I was amazed how strong people’s opinion was about the term called bucket list. Ok let’s give it a new name then first to disassociate the bucket that looks like a limitation first of all that can only fit few things at one time. What would you call chasing your dreams and do things that make you happy? I don’t think we ever do anything in terms of bucket list that makes us feel miserable or unhappy right? So the key is happiness, sense of achievement and over all it’s a positive change that it brings in your life. I don’t want to associate it with death either as that’s the worst thing I can do to associate it with fear of dying one day. So I won’t call it a ‘things to do before I die’. I don’t want the name ‘to do list’ either as it should not be forced upon me just because I want to do these things doesn’t mean I have to pressure myself into doing it as that would cause more stress than happiness. ‘Wish list’ is not bad but not quiet appealable still.

Any ways the reason to write few things to do that makes you happy are many like:

  1. As humans we are quiet prone to laziness and just do whatever we do in our daily life the same way and become a bit robotic and get into our automatic gear to run our life
  2. We are not conditioned socially to think about our well being and happiness usually
  3. We are accustomed of thinking in terms of what is right and good in terms of the rules of society
  4. There are times that makes us think that we are not happy but then we start the blame game rather than changing something in our life
  5. Also we are prone to associate our happiness with the tangible things a lot of time (example: money which is basically a tool to do things in life that are either necessary or important but we start giving more importance in hoarding the money till death do us apart).
  6. We have so many mundane activities in day to day life that takes precedence and we loose focus on the important things in life
  7. It’s hard for us to prioritize things if we don’t have the focus around the important things
  8. Our brain is conditioned to use the data in form of list better than the random chunks of information or goals
  9. We are so used to of making a to do list in our head that anything similar gets done quickly or more clearly

But now that we understand that this particular list (or a new name that we would give this list soon) is important in order to focus on the important things in life what we are not supposed to do:

  • This list is important but it should not stress you so much that you become upset or unhappy otherwise you loose the whole essence of having such a list
  • With time our priorities and goals change as well as our likes and dislikes hence its important to revisit your list every now and then
  • Don’t attach yourself to the list that not doing something from the list makes you dishearten at any time
  •  Don’t think that not being able to do something on the list is the end of the world as it is not
  • Make sure you remember the reason you have a list – to make you happy. So anything on the list that you think is going to make you unhappy try to find a better item in its place
  • It’s your list so don’t come under social pressure to complete anything on your list. Take your own pace and do it as you like not by the fear of what others would think. It’s your list and you can do whatever you want with it – change it, do it, cancel it whatever.
  • Try to bring the balance of different kind of things on your list to make sure the start doesn’t discourage you and you always have the variety to choose from. For example: If you want to make abs then don’t obsess about it so much that you kill your self on the gym floor. Try to understand that having things on your list doesn’t make them magic items that can be done any quicker than their normal time. I had a item saying I want to run marathon whereas I had never run in my whole life for even 5 k. So I didn’t do it last year and training this year for obstacle course which is helpful to increase my stamina and also if I would like then I would run a marathon one day that too only in case I think I would enjoy it.
  • Don’t have a list that you think would make you look cool in front of others but also think of the reason why you

At last but not the least do remember that you create a bucketlist to achive more and to be happy in life and the moment you start getting streesed due to it that means a problem and you need to start thinking why you had it in the first place.

Hope you have fun with or without bucket list doing things that you love my friend.

Guinness book of records & Date a stranger – Bucket list items for 2014

Now this was something I wouldn’t have thought last year really but after attending a seminar (100 things – http://100things.com.au) from Sebastian, I was all ready to give it a go. I was just looking for the events on that weekend and this event for biggest blind dating came up with the highlight of Guinness book of records. I was not quiet sure about this kind of event but at the same time it looked like fun so I was willing to give it a go at least to get the record and have another item ticked off my bucket list. Finally I booked it. It was a decision made in 10 minutes that too for the very next day. I was the last woman to book the last ticket as after that no more tickets were available in female category.

Anyways I was excited for the event but at the same time I was a little nervous as I had never been on such a blind date where I had no clue whom I might meet. I just hoped to meet some one I can at least have a decent conversation if nothing much. So there I was all ready and dressed up for my mysterious date. I put effort into getting ready by going home early and wearing one of my best dresses and it was not just because I was on a date but also because the event was organized in Opera house, the iconic building of Sydney where I had only been once so far. So it was going to be a really exciting event I thought. And being single is awesome for many reason out of which one is this where you can experiment with things like this. So there I was outside Opera house in my heels and holding my clutch. There was a really huge queue now to get to the door. People were dressed to the nines and a lot of them nervous and excited about it like me. I with others started to line up but as per the invitation the doors were supposed to be closed in half hour and then they would choose some random people from the bar if someone didn’t make it. So now this got me a bit nervous as I didn’t want to waste my money and loose the opportunity to hold the Guinness book record. And guess what, when you are keen to do something then some time you end up doing silly things. Of course I did hate the fact that I didn’t collect my ticket earlier which would have been way more easier. Some girls were going straight in which made me curious to see if there is another queue that people are not aware of. So I started to follow these girls but soon to my dismay I realized that they had already collected the tickets. Now I had lost my position in the queue/line and I was almost at the ticket window. I decided to stay there as long as it takes to get the ticket rather than going back again. Hence I pretended that I am also in the queue and end up meeting a stranger and now friend there in the queue who also jumped the queue like me. We both had a good conversation for a short period of time before we had to go and take seat near our pre-designated table. Now the tension started building up as people starting gathering around their designated areas inside Opera house. But the view was beautiful so I preferred to enjoy the moment and took some canapés on the way and a glass of water to enjoy the ambience in this iconic building. People had started introducing each other in order to be more comfortable in room full of strangers. I took some pictures to capture this event in my camera as this was more of an adventure for me rather than dating I must say.

Soon the area was full of people holding wines/beer and other drinks in their hands and eagerly waiting for their blind date. I was a bit nervous by now thinking who is going to be my date. And there the moment comes when I am introduced to my date. Ok now I was not expecting to be setup with a fellow Indian that too with whom none of my criteria matched that I was asked to fill in the website by the company (CitySwoon) organizing this event. Anyways I didn’t want to rude with the guy so we started talking formally but it was very clear that it was not going anywhere and soon I started discovering that he hadn’t made any effort to come here today and directly rocked up from him work with a backpack on his shoulder that made him look like a school kid and not so cool. And also it became unbearable to talk to him soon when I realized he had really bad breath (Some people don’t realize that even if it is a blind date but one needs to put some effort to get ready and at least eat some mint if you have bad breath). Personal hygiene is yours but if you are in someone else’s company than it affects others as well. After some formal chit chat it was a matter of spending one hour in order to break the record to be honest and we both knew this. He was interested in hooking up with a blonde with no sense of self appearance and I was hoping to meet some one who could at least hold an intellectual conversation or may be a bit attractive. So this date was a complete disaster for us. Anyways time didn’t really fly but somehow one hour was over and we were allowed to mingle with other people. But I think I had enough of this and on my way out I did talk to some more people before winding down for the day.

Good news is that we did break the record in spite of a bad date that night. So there it goes – two items on my list are completed with this (date a total stranger and hold a gunnies book record).

Don’t take me wrong and may be blind date can be fun but I am not sure if I ever want to try it again based on my only personal experience. But it was fun trying anyways.

My first house party in Australia and another item on my bucketlist

Yes that was something I always wanted to do as I love inviting people over dinner sometimes. But this time I wanted to throw a proper house party where all my friends can come and I get to meet them all at the same time. And we all have a good time. It was my birthday that made it possible for me to invite all of them over for a party. I was nervous as I had a race the day before the party and to be honest I have never catered these many people at once in my life. When I was little my mum and dad used to organize such parties on my birthday and heaps of people used to come but as I grew it was moreover with couple of friends somewhere in the restaurant or pub where I would celebrate my birthday and even a quiet one sometimes. I was never a big fan of birthdays since I grew up for some reason. But this year, it was a blast and I felt like it was Christmas to be honest as it was going on for a week almost starting from the weekend before when I flew to Antarctica and then on my birthday I had some ice cream at work with my colleagues and then a beautiful home cooked 4 course meal at my friends place. Then the next day my another friend took me for dinner as he couldn’t make it for my house party and after two days my house party. So it was like Christmas for me really to celebrate my birthday this year that I would never forget. I love my life for many reasons and my friends are one of the biggest reason 🙂 So the day had come and I had done a lot of shopping the other day and that was another adventure in a way to buy so much stuff and realizing that my flatmate can’t drive me home so I had to push the trolley all the way to my home for 20 min and then back and it was quiet honestly a struggle to keep the trolley on the same track all the time and I did have some workout during that 🙂 Anyways I was a bit tired after preparing the sangria and the big shopping on Saturday so I prepared some stuff overnight and left rest of the things for Sunday morning (party day). I woke up on time and start cooking for the party as I wanted to serve some Indian dishes. As suggested by one of the friends, I had asked everyone to bring one dish looking at the number of people that would be attending (at least 12-15 ). But I still wanted to cook few things just in case. And guess what the food was way too much and it lasted for few days in my fridge which was a good thing and better than less food. Every one loved the sangria that I had prepared and also the food very different to their usual meal. We had a laugh and an awesome time. We danced, sang and laughed again. It was one of the best way to celebrate my birthday I can say. So here it goes, another item on my bucket list successfully completed. Hope you enjoyed it and next time you might be invited on my birthday party if you are nearby 😉 Have a wonderful week my friends! Regards, Kavita

Bucket-List 2013 – Learn martial arts

Hello My Lovely Fellow Bloggers,

A smile and hug from Sydney. I had an amazing weekend this time like many others and I am back to share some stories and experience with you including my bucketlist adventure. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

Item #26: Learn martial arts

I have been learning Jujitsu for last many weeks now. I am still a beginner and planning to continue next year as well to make sure I get better at it. I have been a big fan of martial arts movie all my life and this year – thanks to my bucket list I was finally able to convert my dream into reality and it was such an amazing feeling to stand in-front of the instructor wearing my new Gi. It started with lot more enthusiasm as I was not injured and I could easily manage the new techniques I was learning but gradually I started getting sore and it became harder to practice more often hence I had to drop my attendance from 4 times a week to 2 times a week. And Salsa also got me injured on my feet and I had to make sure I don’t get bashed too much and protect my feet from any blow. I am getting better at it I must say as being a girl this is something I was never used to of. But now getting injured or sore and being thrown on the mat seems like a normal activity. I still want to go to the origin martial art places in China and practice to handle my chi energy one day. As of now I must practice what I am learning and focus on techniques as being small and light weight from other guys in the class it is very important for me to use more techniques than strength as otherwise it is very easy for me to get beaten while spiring. I didn’t get  a chance to take my picture in the Gi but next year when I get a little bit better, I would post more about my experience of martial arts and specially Brazilian Jujitsu (style I am learning) as a girl.

Kavita

Bucket-List 2013 : Plan for New Year and Christmas in Miami and Los Angeles

My Fears

Item #11: Plan for New Year and Christmas in Miami and Los Angeles

Looks like things are falling in place and I am off to Los Angeles for Christmas and Miami for New Year. Awesome holidays after hard work at the job. I am lucky to have you all to share my happiness as well. I am planning to also visit Las Vegas and Grand Canyon when I am in Los Angeles. It should be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to this break now.

Bucket-List 2013 : Start learning Spanish

New year would bring a lot of happiness and lot more adventures to come to all of us I pray. I have been troubled, happy, sad, hurt, amused, peaceful and anoyed this year. But it wouldn’t stop me from saying that this is one of the best year of my life so far. No matter how many times my ex and his girlfriend tried to attack this serinity, no matter what all problems occured in life, but with amazing friends, family and specially all of you, I have been able to get through everything and now its time to celebrate 🙂

Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

Item #1: Start learning Spanish

Also the first item on my bucket list was to learn Spanish. Even though I havn’t mastered it yet as I started really late on this and I think I should have reversed ny bucket list as I started somewhere from bottom and most of the items are finished if you read from bottom to top. I have started learning Spanish a little bit and I would include this as long term goal in next year’s bucket list as well. But I think its fun learning a new language and after doing 6 months certification in German language its been years and years since I have tried another language other than few words that I learn whenever I visit a new place. But I would keep you posted on my progress and soon I want to go to South America and Spain hence I better learn this language properly 😉

Bucket-List 2013 : Practice Indoor Rock Climbing

After finishing many other items on my bucket list I have to say that I haven’t been able to finish each and every item on my bucket list but I am proud of myself for what all things I have done after setting my bucket list on 6th May 2103 this year with 50 items and some of which were like Visit at least 7 cities of Australia in next 7 months and Write 50 Poems that took a lot longer due to the nature of the work. Also there are some really long term goals like Get my weight back to 47 KG and Complete Advanced Scuba diving course. There are many other very interesting items as well like Swim with Crocodile & Swim with White Sharks and I call them the higlight adventures of my bucket list really. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

Item #30: Practice Indoor Rock Climbing

This one I wouldn’t say I did very often but looking at the very less time I was left with, I did go once and I would try to be more regular next year when I might have more time in hand. But thanks to everyone to make my journey so beautiful as always 🙂 Also I would update here some more items and hopefully would post the draft bucket list for next year soon 🙂 Have a wonderful day dear friends.

Item #27: Get my weight back to 47 KG

Another goal achieved, Hurrah! It took a while to get back there and not exactly but I am pretty close after dancing, martial art, travel and exercising this year. I am glad that I have achieved the set goal of my weight finally this year and would make sure when I come back after christmas then I work more on myself and make sure I keep up with fitness level.

Bucket-List 2013 – Canyoning

Hello My Dear Friends,

I am back with some good news about this week as I have got some update for my bucket list  from last week.

Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you haven’t had a look. My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

Item Number #31:  Canyoning

4587523941 4587524256 4596611505 4596612602

It was already late when I got home after a night with karaoke and dancing but I had to get up in few hours from now so I put a couple of alarms on my phone as always and put myself to bed as quickly as possible. I had a good and a bad day. Good because the work went ok in many days with not much stress and also I was able to do another item on my bucket list – Karaoke, bad because my phone was dropped into water and I lost the display due to it and also it was more sitting than dancing in a Cuban bar today. But anyways no where I was with no packing done and I knew that I was living at the edge by being this careless and by being out this late when I had to go canyoning and abseiling the next day and had to be in the city by 6:45 AM in the morning.

My alarm rang and I felt as if someone was calling me from a distance. I must be dreaming but I was out of bed by 5:15 AM which was pretty good considering I went to bed around 1:30 AM. Yes I know I should be more careful before a big day full of adventure and may be because this year is slipping out of my hand so I am trying to squeeze as many things as possible. But next year I would try to take more rest 🙂

I arrived at the train station but there was no train until another 17 minutes that would get me city by 6:50 AM and I was worried sick now to get late but then I realized I don’t have to take a train and I ran to catch a bus. Yes my weekends are usually more hectic and includes a lot of running due to occasional delay from my end. I know, I know I am working on it 😉 I arrived at the pick up location on time and it was not a sunny day and my friend there informed me of upcoming storm that was not a good news either. I was joking that we should change the plan and may be go to some other nice place for relaxing and touring than canyoning. We were soon picked up from there and now we were on the way to the southern highlands where we were supposed to do canyoning in the beautiful rainforest.

Soon we were gearing up and checking what exact gear fits us for canyoning as there was a 30 minutes walk to the place from where we would start abseiling. The first drop itself was the scariest one I felt as after that canyoning and abseiling was no more a fear for me but something else was. And it was jumping into the deep water from various high places. I have never jumped into water from any height in my life and it was fear of height mixed with the fact that you go under the water when you land. Even though I love sky diving and have tried bungy jumping this was a fear I realized I had deep in my heart. And today was the day when I would face it and would have no other choice but to get over it.

The first abseil was ok apart from few bumps here and there and that was good enough to get the fear out of my mind other than the fact I learned to slow down myself and tell myself not to worry about how much time it takes to get down as long as I try to follow the instructions properly not to bump myself into the rock much. Then there came the jumping part when I was the last person other than the guide there to jump. I literally begged him to choose another way to get down but he asked me that I need to do this in order to do other jumps and get comfortable. Hence here I was standing there for quiet some time as every time I would get close to the edge I could feel my heart beating faster and faster from almost 3 meter height. But at last I felt embarrassed as everyone else was waiting for me and I was holding up the whole group hence I did jump from there with my heart in my mouth. Wow it was some achievement I could feel as my heart was still pumping fast. But then there was another jump where I was second one to go and another one where you have to let go the rope and jump backwards after a little bit of abseiling and then there was this jump where you have to make sure you jump far enough not to hit the rock on the way. Boy this time I did scare everyone as when I jumped I was a meter or less away from the rock and it was a serious risk to my head that I couldn’t see coming.

I had always thought to get a proper training in a pool from a instructor to jump into the water like this. But I didn’t know that I would end up jumping with no formal training and directly into wilderness area where there was no one to save me just in case I get seriously injured. But any ways it has become a milestone of my life now as towards the end we had a slide to jump into the water and there were some volunteer jumps as well from 8.5 meter to 12 meters. And guess what I wanted to do the slide again but then half way back to slide I was standing at this 8.5 meter high place from where others had jumped and I felt the urge to get over my fear and jump from there. I was standing there when others started counting and it made my heart jump really. And the more I stood there jumping became almost impossible. But now it was more a matter of winning over my fear of height and water as I had seen others jumping from such height and still be safe. For many of you this might be like a joke but seriously for me it was such a fear that almost made me feel that I might even die if I jump into the water from this height. But I am really happy that I did it and now I think next time I wouldn’t have this fear in me anymore 🙂

Special thanks to the instructors from Eagle Rock Adventure for their support and good training for the day – http://eaglerockadventures.com.au/

Kavita

Bucket-List 2013 – Sing Karaoke

Hello My Dear Friends,

I am back with some good news about this week as I have got some update for my bucket list  from last week.

Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you haven’t had a look. My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

 Item Number #18:  Sing Karaoke

It was a Friday evening and I had booked for Karaoke for five people with some food included. But unfortunately as it was very close to Christmas hence I couldn’t get many people to join but only one of my very good friend. She was a true friend I must say as she knew we both are terrible at singing but it was on my bucket list of this year to do karaoke and she agreed to do it irrespective of anyone else joining. It was fun to have our own booth and we sang, shouted, talked, ate and posed for pictures that was so much fun I must say. It was like having your own space to do whatever you like and we definitely went a little bit crazy in there. And yes there was no alcohol involved surprisingly as we both are not big fan of drinking at this time. We sang few numbers from Jenifer Lopez and some other female. And yes we sang ‘Beautiful’ from Akon too considering how much I am listening to him these days 🙂 It was fun after all and although it is not my favourite thing to do on Earth but with a bunch of other people I would not mind doing it again. And with that another item on my bucket list is complete. Yay…Not every item on my bucket list is done but I am really proud to say that after starting on this journey from June 2013 and with almost 7 months I have come a long way overcoming a lot of my fears and enjoying every bit of it. And I wish to have another wonderful year with you all like this in my life 🙂

Hiking Weekend: Bucket-List 2013 – Hike to the cradle mountain and experience being a tour guide for few hours along with visiting the place called ‘Bay of Fire’

Hllo My Lovely Fellow Bloggers and Friends,

A smile and hug from Sydney. I am back to share some stories and experience with you including my bucketlist adventure. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

Item Number #38 Vsit one of these – Cradle Mountain / Wineglass Bay /Bay of Fires in Launceston, Tasmania

One of the must do when you are in Tasmania is to walk up to the summit of Cradle Mountain after visiting the beautiful blue Dove lake. It was on my bucket list and I am really glad to tell you that I did experience this when I was in Tasmania. It was a short trip and I was determined to see few places when I was in Launceston, Tasmania. Hence I booked a tour as I don’t drive and it became another memorable tour of my life really. It was windy and cold when we got there but I was lucky to have a really good weather when we reached to the Marion’s lookout. There is a very famous overland track that starts from there and we met a lot of hikers doing that six days track as well with big backpacks. I might like to do it one day if I stay in Australia for long I think.

But anyways it was a steep climb at few places but there were chains that you can hold on to while climbing for assistance so I think most of the people with average fitness can do this walk and at least going to the Marion’s lookout is definitely worth doing. As you would be rewarded with beautiful views of the valley as well as many lakes that are visible from the summit. On the way back the tour guide asked us to take another route and he suggested that he would dive the van to the other location for us. Somehow others managed to make me a temporary tour guide after seeing my skills in bush walking which took me by surprise but I loved the job for next one hour or so and made sure everyone is happy and safe on the way back. But it was really nice to meet so many new people on this walk. I did have some funny tour guide moments when I thought a waterfall that our tour guide was talking is nearby and I literally told everyone that the stream of water was the so called waterfall whereas in another few minutes we were able to spot the actual one 😉 A bit cheeky of me, I know and everyone had a good laugh at that. And then we met our tour guide on the suggested location after a nice hike and a good workout.

Also I had a chance to go to the beautiful place called – Bay of fire, a beach in Tasmania. This should be another must do thing when you are in Tasmania. I am sharing the pictures of this place as well. Although it was cold and I end up lying in the beach with my jacket and jeans on but I loved it whatsoever. I love Tasmania so much that I would go there any time I get a chance in future. Its not just the place but people there are also so lovely and warm. Also as the space here in wordpress is filling fast hence I upload more pics on the facebook page as of now till I get a proper website up and running for my blog. So kindly join me on facebook to see more pictures and get some very exciting updates from Talking Experience 🙂

Bucket-list 2013 – Caving: Plughole Adventure in Jenolan Caves

Hello My Fellow Bloggers,

I am trying to do things in my bucket list as you know and my apology not to be regular with writing due to being involved in a few things in my list that are taking a lot of my time and also I am trying to fit some travelling into it. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet and I have brought some exciting new adventures that I have been involved recently.

Item #6: Try caving – Jenolan Caves in Sydney

I was a bit nervous and could feel butterflies in my stomach that day. My friend gave me some confidence by saying that I would be alright but  I think waiting for something like this was making me utterly nervous and also I had discussed this with my other girl friends and they were not quiet sure how strenuous it might be actually. So my latest adventure was caving. I recently did ‘Plughole Adventure’ caving in Jenolan caves – One of the oldest caves in the world and one of the most amazing place in New South Wales that also had got bulb installed in the area for the first time. It was a warm and sunny day but still I packed my backpack with warm clothes thinking that it might be very cold inside the cave and I was a bit worried about getting injured there due to all the crawling and sliding. As this was the first time I was trying this activity hence I seemed to be quiet naive obviously. And when I realized it involved some abseiling as well that I haven’t done before then my heartbeat was over the roof. But soon the abseiling part was done surprisingly and guess what I did pretty ok actually. I am going for canyoning soon and this was a good practice I must say. So here we were at our first hole in the cave that looked very small but surprisingly after following the instruction from the guides we were able to pass that easily by crawling, squeezing and sliding. Next part was easy and touristic as we just walked few meters to get to the root of a very old tree that was there for couple of hundred years. Its amazing to see the underground part of the nature as well at times. And next was the rocks where we saw the signatures of all the people who had been there, including a lady in  early 1800. We did get to hear a number of stories about people who had been here and explored the various routes in the cave. It was only later when we got a chance to switch off our torch and experienced pitch black darkness.

It was overall a refreshing and self awareness activity I felt after having finished it successfully and also sometimes we don’t realize how much potential we have got and we are capable of doing lot more than we actually think we can do 🙂 That’s what I find out when I overcome my fears and try to do something new.

Bucket-list 2013 – Learn dancing : Preferably street dancing or salsa

Hello My Fellow Bloggers,

I am trying to do things in my bucket list as you know and my apology not to be regular with writing as I have been few training and that takes quiet a lot of my time. Salsa and Martial arts are two of them as per my bucket list for this year. I would continue to learn these but I am here to share my experience with you all. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

Item #7: Learn dancing – Preferably street dancing or salsa

Yes it was in my bucket list to learn Salsa and I have been doing it with some social dancing involved. It’s been fun and some really awesome weeks learning this dance. Also I have made lots of friends due to this so my advice would be if you like dancing, then go ahead and learn Salsa. It’s fantastic to have fun and make great friends. I have always loved dancing but it was on my own as either hip hop or some individual style but I never knew how much fun it can be if you do it with a partner and also the mystery behind anticipating the move from the other side and just follow the signs while dancing to co-ordinate the next move.

Special thanks to Go Dance and the crew as they are just amazing. If you are in Sydney and want to learn Salsa then Go Dance is one of the best place to start. They also are giving a free lesson every Sunday at iQ’VIVA. They are like a family that you get when you become a part of this group and I would be enrolling for the Latin Dance Academy next year to get more serious about it 🙂

Bucket-list 2013 week 26 – Try stand up paddling

Hello My Lovely Fellow Bloggers,

A smile and hug from Sydney. I had an amazing weekend this time like many others and I am back to share some stories and experience with you including my bucket list adventure. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

It was a lovely day with a little bit of wind due to which the waves were a little choppy which was not ideal to be able to stand on the board on my first lesson, but I still loved it. And if you can see me sitting on the board in yoga pose then it was due to the choppy waves that didn’t let me stand too long. But I would try it again once the rain in Sydney stops this summer as I loved the whole experience. My friend Alyssa was like a super woman as she had Mr. Ecko (her dog) with her as well and she managed to make him sit still on the second half of the ride. Mr. Ecko was so brave that he kept his calm all the way to the shore and I really admire that. We had Michelle as my awesome instructor. Thanks to her I was brave enough to try it as well I must say. She is our friend and a great coach as well. So here you go – some pictures for you to enjoy with me.

Bucket-list 2013 week 15 – Participate in making a short film

Another day doing something new that I never done before and feel how it feels like. My life was different before this year and now suddenly after 11 months I feel like a new person almost after doing so much and after seeing so much in such a little time. Or I can say I just opened my eyes and being awake mostly now. It’s been a year of learning, year of forgiveness, year of love and awakening and year of fulfillment that I never felt before. But that so doesn’t mean that it’s over, as they say it is just the beginning.

One of the things on my bucket list was to see how it feels like when you are part of the film making crew and see if I want to do something in that field. I have always been fascinated with movies in Hollywood and I guess it was worth trying to be a part of something that was going to be there forever. I was part of the crew for a short film making and it was a good learning for me for the years to come I must say. And it helped me completing my bucket list’s item number 44. If you don’t know what all things I have listed in my bucket list for this year then here is a link for my bucket list for 2013. My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

Bucket-List 2013 Week 25 – 25.Visit atleast one historical town in Australia (Armidale)

My Fears

This time I had a wonderful time in a city called Armidale, located in the northern tableland in New South Wales, Australia. It has population of around 25,000 people and is known as one of the higest city in Australia at 1,110 meter above sea level. It is a beautiful area covered by world heritage national parks and it has also got an airport at 1,084 metres (3,556 ft), the highest licensed airport in New South Wales. It is 5 hours 30 minutes drive from Sydney, but I don’t drive so I caught the Greyhound bus in the evening from Central, Sydney to get here. It is a bit cold in Armidale due to it’s high location hence it is advisable to carry few warm clothes usually.

I think this is one of the most relaxed and happy weekend I had for quiet a while. And as I look back, I feel that the time I had spent here in this little town was blissful. Why do I feel blissful? A number of things happened on my trip to Armidale this weekend and I was content and happy after such a wonderful weekend with few  hiccups. I left Sydney around 5:30 PM on Friday evening when everyone was getting in the party mood in the city. People were leaving work on time or even early to start feeling Friday fever. I was in the bus waiting to get out of the city and get a snooze before I arrive in Armidale at 2:30 AM in the morning. It was a nice bus ride where I met this French couple who were spending their honeymoon travelling around the world for 6 months. What an awesome way to celebrate I must say. I love meeting people from different culture as you can see and we instantly hit it off and shared a lot of experiences from past travelling. I was lucky to get the next seat free in the bus as it was enough for me to curl up and get some sleep on my way to Armidale. As this was the first time I was going there so I checked quiet a few times with the driver about where we were and that made him wonder why I might be going to this little town where he himself hadn’t been for ages. Anyways finally I was there. The moment I left the bus a wave of cold air took me by surprise. It was around -2.0 C which I was not quiet prepared to be honest and the warm clothes I was carrying were mainly for the bus in case the AC was too low which sometimes is the case when you take a bus. But I was very glad that I did have few warm clothes and I tried to wear all of them to make myself more comfortable in this cold night.

I met some locals and made some really good friends I must say. It was just such a nice trip if I look back.  I went for a walk/run to enjoy the atmosphere and that took me to the University of New England in Armidale, where there was some function taking place. Then I also visited the city and the Dangar waterfall that is 20 minutes drive from Armidale, a very serene place. There are few other nice places to visit that I didn’t get a chance to go but worth seeing if you have few days in Armidale:

• Oxley Wild RIvers Nationalpark
• Zoology Museum
• Museum of Antiquities
• New England Regional Art Museum
• Hillgrove Museum
• Cathedral Rock National Park
• Dangars Lagoon and Racecourse Lagoon
• Deeargee Woolshed
• Eastview Estate Winery
• Geraldine 4WD Recreation Park
• Mount Mutton Walking Trail
• Mount Yarrowyck Nature Reserve
• Thunderbolts Rock
• Uralla Heritage Walk
• Wollomombi Falls – This is one of the highest fall in Australia. Wollomombi Falls are located less than one kilometre south of the village of Wollomombi and approximately two and a half kilometres by road. The access turn off is one and a half kilometres from Wollomombi on the Waterfall Way towards Armidale.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 23 – Jetpack Adventure (Walk on water)

Hello My Lovely Fellow Bloggers,

A big hug to all from me. I had an amazing weekend this time like many others I have had since I have started this bucket-list for this year. And I am back to share some more adventure with you. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t had a look yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

You must be wondering what did I do this item, which item did I cross off from my big list. So here you go.

Item Number #35 – Jetpack Adventure (Link to the website in Australia – http://www.jetpackadventures.com.au/)

It was such a lovely day even though I was a little bit tired after my trip to Armidale (a historical little city in Australia). But I was all set to fly over the water today. Yes you are right fly like a super woman. I was thrilled to be able to complete all my fantasies since I was a child and it was going to be true today. Yaaay….so here I was sitting near the lake and getting ready for the ride. I had watched a different version of this sport on TV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHL16av4C9k) few months ago and since then I was imagining how amazing it would be if I could ever do it. Video of my adventure would be sent to me in a week’s time hence I would post it then and till then here are some pics for you guys.

I was a bit nervous when Jess, from JetPack Adventure team, told me that I need to learn to flip as I would usually fall on the water face down. It wasn’t very good to know that I would be trying to flip when I had no mask on with the possibility to breathe underwater. But I was so thankful for this life saving technique as on my first go I was flipping quiet a few times after falling straight into the water from almost 10 feet high. Anyways I got all dressed up… in the wetsuit of course and a life jacket just in case. Also as there were no boots available for my size so I had to make sure I walk to the deeper end of the lake a bit carefully as it can be a bit rough with the small rocks around. And then Simon, from the Jetpack Adventure, told me the various techniques to control the direction I would be flying today. Everyone in the team was so supportive and funny that even falling in the water and crashing on my first go didn’t look very bad really.

Yes, I crashed badly after lifting from the water on my first go. A though crossed my mind – ‘it ain’t looking good why the hell you have to do this.’ But then another thought said – ‘ You are not a quitter and if others can do it then so can you’. There comes the power of willingness and I was ready to give it another go. This time again I crashed back into the water. Greg was on the jetski and was worried and asked Simon not to worry about the video and other things but help me to lift from the water first. I was a bit more nervous now as I thought it was simple but no every little movement of my body was putting me out of balance really and then I would crash into the water again. But then it happened, I lifted from the water successfully on my third go and I flew for some time. Then again as the controls were new to me so I fell back into the water i the middle of the lake. Greg was very kind and patient with me and I can’t believe how much confidence boost he gave me really. Towards the end of my introductory flight I was a bit better I would say and very tired as well. I must have drunk a litre of water that time. Then I had a break for a while before going for my next flight.

I flew nicely on my second flight. It was so much better the next time and I was squealing with joy and excitement in the sky. I even tried to fly with my hands wide open and twisting and turning my body weight for a while as suggested by Simon. Then it got even better on  my third and last flight and this time Greg even said that I am flying like a professional. Of course he was being very nice to me but I did fly with not many hiccups this time and I was smooth with control and mainly I was going where I wanted this time and not being dragged from the power of the jetpack this time. I felt amazing and I even glided in the air and above the water like some super hero. It was one of the best experience so far I had I felt. The power to be able to fly and control your movement with your own will. And Greg gave some extra boost for my flights to make sure I can have as much fun as I wanted. It was such a wonderful day that made me want it even more. I might go back there some day in future as summer is coming and these kind of sports are always welcome to enjoy the water as well as the thrill involved with them. Next time I might even go for a flyboard (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHL16av4C9k) I guess 😉 Also the good news is that even kids can do it as Tandem flight (strapped with the professionals).

So till my next adventure stay tuned with my blog and a lot more to come till the year-end when I would be flying to Los Angles and Miami for an amazing new year.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 22 – Complete Advanced Scuba diving course

Hello My Lovely Bloggers,

A big hug to all from me. I had an amazing few month since I have started this bucket-list for this year. And I am back to share some more adventure with you. You know I have 50 items of all sorts of things on my bucket list for 2013. Here is also a link for the same if you haven’t had a look.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

You must be wondering what did I do this item, which item did I cross off from my big list. So here you go.

Diving in the Great Barrier Reef

Item Number #43 – Complete Advanced Scuba diving course

It was not until I was reading my own bucket list, I had time to think about diving for a while. Then I saw this item on my list – Advanced open water course in diving. Suddenly I realised it’s time to learn some thing more in diving and get back to water after a while. It was such a nice feeling to think about the course and it made it easier to get up early in the morning on the weekend to get to Manly which is a train and a ferry away (almost 1.5 hours) from me. I was there all excited except one fact in my mind. I had recently watched the movie – Open Water, where this couple was left in the ocean after diving by mistake and that actually made me a bit sceptical about this sport now. So I asked the instructor in the diving company to make sure that he remembers to bring me back. Everyone laughed at first but then I did explain the reason behind my worry. I don’t mind dying one day but if I do die for some stupid reason then it won’t be fun really and there is so much to see before getting eaten alive by sharks or die due to cold in water really.

So here I was back into the ocean and on our first dive. It was so bumpy on the way as the weather was not in our favour. But somehow the skipper anchored at one place and then we jumped into the water all geared up and after doing the buddy check (the safety check that one does on their buddy in diving as people are paired up generally in diving). We started to decent when the skipper called the instructor and asked to get back the boat as the anchor was being dragged due to the current and it didn’t look like a safe sign. So we came back to the boat and after a while we found another place to do out first dive. I had trouble equalizing today as my ears were blocked. A girl had already dropped out of the course after the first rough encounter with the waves so I was a bit nervous myself. But I couldn’t just give up, specially after 18  dives I had done so far. I was determined to get to the bottom and so I did. It was painful for a while as I felt as if my head would burst . But finally I got better and did the first dive properly. After the first dive we had time for snacks and I have been eating so much lately that it became my favourite time during the dives when we were served hot pies and other Thai snacks. I loved it even though I was a bit suspicious about being too full just before the second dive. But anyways just like the first dive again it was a bit hard today to equalize but fortunately I was able to complete this dive too. Now it was time to get back to the store and go for the night dive. I had never done three dives, all in one day so I was a bit tired but enthusiastic at the same time. And this time I had less weight on me due to the different sizes of weight belts in the store as compared to the boat, hence no matter what I did it was just hard to stay in the bottom and I would just come back to surface all the time. Yes, it’s hard for me to sink…lol. Then the instructor put some more weight in my pocket and then I was able to enjoy rest of my dive with others.

Next day we had to go a bit late for rest of the two dives that included the deep dive. Even though I was on time for the ferry but there were so many people in Sydney harbour today to go to Manly that the ferry was full twice and my heart was almost sinking thinking how am I going to get there now. Fortunately we were able to board the next boat and then I realized the bay I was aiming to reach was no near Manly. I called the store and asked the people there to wait for me so that I can join the group from the store. I took off my footwear and started running barefoot. It was funny as I was the only girl in a nice dress but running barefoot. People kept staring at me but now more important was to get to the store before the group leaves me behind. I got there all huffing and puffing and the instructor even made a joke out of it. But I was so happy as if I had done the course already. And there we go for our next two dives. It was nice and calm water today so not much trouble finding a nice spot in the blue fish point. Even better that I did not have trouble equalizing today. Hence I did descent slowly but effectively today. Then I realized my cylinder was coming off. Wow that was a news now as I didn’t know whether to stop descending or go to the surface but then my instructor asked me to keep going and I felt that he was making sure that my cylinder is still attached to my jacket a little. Then on the bottom (20 meter), he asked me to sit so that he can fix it. So I followed his instruction and he did fixed it. Man that was a bit scary initially as it would have been an emergency ascent in case the cylinder would have come off anyhow.

We all successfully completed both the dives with some snacks. It was a wonderful feeling while coming back thinking about the two days we spent training ourselves and learning about various technical stuff that would be useful in future. Thank you all for your time to read about my weekend and now I have ticked off another item from my list. Hurrah.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 18 – Watch an open air cinema

IMG_9752

Item Number #42 – Watch an open air cinema

I always wanted to watch open air cinema hence I changed an item on my bucket list ‘Sleep in luxury with animals at the zoo or sleep in a wartime bunker’ with this. As I realized when I was trying to fit 50 things in my bucket list that time I had to add some random things to increase the number even though I wasn’t quiet keen on those. Hence with time I have changed few of the items on my bucket list to fit something I really wanted to do but didn’t think about it while collating the list.

So yes I was able to complete this bucketlist item when I was in Darwin and I watched an awesome movie ‘Crocodile Dundy’ in this place of crocodiles. It was an amazing experience in the warm night under the stars. Here is a snippet from my day in Darwin – Place to relax and enjoy Crocodile Dundy

Bucket-List 2013 Week 20 – Write 50 poems

Item Number #45 – Write 50 poems

It was one of the other items that I replaced that was watching cricket as I realized that I don’t even like Cricket much. Yes, it sounds odd being an Indian that I don’t like this game. But I am more of an individual sports person and specially racing like bike racing, horse racing, car racing etc. So finally here I am with more than 35 poems at hand. I am glad that I did make it a bucket list option as since then I could not stop writing poems and some people even felt they might have gone to a wrong website after seeing all these poems all of a sudden.

I have written poems before but in my own native language – Hindi. And I was not sure whether I would be able to connect to people when writing in English or not. Because writing an article is different from composing a poem and you need to feel it inside to be able to write and express yourself. And what can I say – your love and appreciation did make me compose some of the best poems of my life I had ever thought of.  ‘I miss myself when I miss you’  was one of them.

Good News! I have published a book for my collection of poems. Here is the link for the same.

Life as Talking Experience

I hope you enjoy reading them. Please let me know how you liked it. And yes one more thing my name (Kavita) also means the poem. Have a lovely day friends!

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

Bucket-List 2013 Week 18 – Swim with Crocodile and Visit Kakadu National Park

IMG_9781

It was crazy to face all of them one by one but good thing is that I have seen them before in all size and forms and have learned more about them gradually. And once you know more about them they are less frightening as you understand that killing is in their nature and you got to be very careful around them.

I am back after my last update on my bucket list about visiting 7 cities in less than 7 months.  I have now also completed the below items:

  • Item Number #22 – Swim with Crocodile
  • Item Number #36 – Visit Twin Falls at Kakadu National Park – (Little variation with this as I only toured the park)

Here I was in the cage with one of the biggest crocodiles in the world and he did look hungry. I was more fascinated to see them and feel their closeness to the cage then being afraid really. Looking into their eyes and make them swim towards you thinking that you are food in a safe setting was the best way to encounter crocodiles in Australia as at least 1 person a year die in the rivers because of them at the moment. There are more crocodiles in Darwin than anywhere else in Australia at the moment and when we toured around the rivers there were almost 200 crocodiles in the river as compared to 20 tourists in the boat. And that’s when I was hoping to make it safe when there were so many predators looking at us as food.

I met two girls studying in Melbourne – Sanny from Netherlands and Margaux from Belgium, in the hostel I was staying. I had a wonderful time with them as we went to the bar located next to the pool in the hostel. Also co-incidentally we were booked to the same tour to Kakadu National park. Which made it even more adventurous and fun when we were the only three girls from our age group and we were able to have lots of fun including an innocent 15 min delay that caused us to apologize to people in the bus as the tour guide didn’t specify what time we have to be back and we got sucked into the beautiful views and aboriginal art in the area.

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

Finally I have done it. Yes, it was awesome to try 10 different cuisines in less than two months. It felt like living and breathing the culture for the moment when I was in these restaurants as I went for traditional places and traditional dishes. Even turned myself into non-vegetarian and it was worth knowing the real taste from these many different countries and culture. Today as the last but not the least cuisine as per my bucket list became African food. And it was just delicious. I am not going to stop here and will try more cuisines in future as this task has proved to be very freeing one as I have opened up to new things in this area of food as well 🙂

1.Belgian Cuisine
2.Lebanese Cuisine
3.Vietnemese
4.Italian
5.Spanish
6. Turkish
7. French
8. Cajun
9. Portugese
10. African
11. Taiwanese

One more item completed – Smiles to share with two of my articles published

Painful days but worth it – ATV ride and a fall in Cairns

Hello Friends,

As you would have already seen from my diving pics in Great Barrier Reef, I had an awesome weekend. It was not all sweet but then how can be things interesting with no down side to them. So it all started with this bucket list of mine. And here I am all happy, content but every inch of my body is shouting at me after this weekend. It is so sore and painful that every time I move my hand or legs or neck, it reminds me of the adventure I had this weekend 😉

So how did I get this sore as diving doesn’t make you this sore after all not when you have been diving for a while. Here it goes – I did have a big day driving ATV around the farm before I did my diving and before the second dive I fell badly on the floor face down. I did try to compete with the expert there and jumped my ATV over many hurdles and kept getting faster and faster. Even scared the instructor when I flew my ATV just a few inches away from his ATV and he almost stood up and got ready to jump from his ATV to save himself. And I am not sure it was my fault or what that I did take all the force on my hands to save my face and of course no scar on my face but hands are almost useless  other than typing on the computer. Yesterday I was struggling to cut even an apple.  How did I fell? Don’t even ask as it was as a matter of fact very funny incidence the way it happened and gave every one around a reason to have a laugh. The wet suit was very small and of a different design so like first dive I had to get help to get into it but unfortunately a very big guy came for help and lift the suit (me in it) and chain opened so fast that the very next moment I was on the floor facing down. Thank God I was few inches away from the door otherwise you would be looking at my Terminator kind of melting face picture 😉

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week

But anyways have fun with my pictures driving ATV and that can be counted as one of the new things I did last week in my bucket list 🙂

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

It was amazing to have French Tomato-ey Ratatouille on Friday afternoon in Sydney with a friend of mine and Creole Jumbalaya with Voodooz Conrbread with my buddy in diving on Sunday night in Cairns. Different cusines in different places was something I enjoyed the most last week I must admit and this bucket list of mine made sure that I remember to try something new when I was on my diving trip to north of Australia in Cairns. Cafe Nice in Circular Quay, Sydney, not only provides you with taste but a very nice ambience with price that fits in budget. Sounds very delicious right, I know. Also Voodooz in Cairns has a very traditional Cajun (New Orleans Style) food. Also I did try Portuguese burger and it was very yumm

Here is the list of food that I have already tried so far and I am pretty close to complete my list it seems as I was able to add 3 more cusines last week. One more to go and this is complete as well 🙂
1.Belgian Cuisine
2.Lebanese Cuisine
3.Vietnemese
4.Italian

6. Turkish

Turkish Delight and Tacos with a new Friend : Bucket-List 2013 Week 7

Oh what a day I just had. It was long and ended with a bad stomach ache. Good news is that I completed one item this week and also close to finish another one.

Item Number #40 – Enjoy tacos and margaritas with a new friend: Sydney

Yes, I did it. I made a friend at friend’s tea party last weekend and had Tacos today with him and sorry the Margarita part would not take place as I quit drinking. But we had some tacos in Newtown, Sydney in ‘Guzman Y Gomez’.

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

So far I have tried the following new cuisines:

  1. Belgian Cuisine
  2. Lebanese Cuisine
  3. Vietnemese
  4. Italian
  5. Spanish

Today I tried Turkish food and it wasn’t a good experience as I got sick after that. Although I feel good as I ticked this cuisine off my list. But I guess it was just one place and cold food that got me a bit sick. Other than that my friend advised me that usually Turkish food is really good so I might try it some other time. Here are some pictures of food.

So I am closer to complete this item with 4 more cuisines. This is all for today. Hope you enjoy these pics. Wish you a very lovely week and a wonderful life ahead and we will meet soon 🙂

Pub Crawl just after I quit drinking : Bucket-List 2013 Week 6

Hi All,

I am back with some stories now. We did have a night filled with fun but it was funny because I had organized this pub crawl when the same day I quit drinking. Can you believe that I had no drinks all night but just juice in a pub crawl 😉 Yes sounds weird but what could I do as I just quit drinking a day before. It was heaps of fun tough.

IMGP1719

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week (this week it was organizing a pub crawl after quitting drinking)

Now you must be wondering why I quit drinking. Yes, there is a reason behind it but more than that a thought was lingering in my mind whenever I crossed a bar and smelled alcohol it didn’t really make me feel good. I didn’t really liked the smell and also the day I quit, night before that I had enough and got myself into trouble as my vision was blurred out after 4-5 drinks and when I tried to catch a bus I had no clue where I was after getting dropped at some point that night. First time after drinking I was scared to death and lost with a dead battery. After wondering on the road for few hours I gave up. Cried a lot thinking how could I be so stupid, really it was some awful hours of my life. Not that I was ever an alcoholic but this day I did realize that drinking with newly made friends can be dangerous as you can be in trouble and be on your own. It was silly of me to get drunk and no dinner contributed to it. But that’s it after the cops saw me and helped me by first comforting me by talking nicely and asking if I need help and then getting me home safely. I then had to think the next day why I even drink. I know I could just drink a little bit less but still I had to give it a thought specially when I am going through this self-realization phase and questioning the things I do in my everyday life without even thinking at times. So it was the time I had to re-think the reasons I was drinking even if it was once a month or once a week.

My life does look perfect to many but trust me it is not. No one is perfect, all we can try to do are the things to make it better and somewhat right in our own perception as the same thing can be wrong in some one else’s perception. So here I was, thinking about how I started drinking and it was for social reasons and it always made easier to get along with people at times while travelling by giving me more confidence to speak my mind. Next I thought I was drinking as I wanted to know how different drinks taste and I did enjoy that to be honest. I tried more than 50 different cocktails last year. And it was really good and I did learned a lot more about wines and bears although I don’t like any bear other than German and Belgian. And what else were the reasons for me to drink, yes one more – I always came back alive with some really adventurous stories after more than a few drinks. Yes, I did swim in the ocean couple of times after drinking and came back alive. There is something about the water that makes me feel its calling me specially when I am too drunk….lol I now sounds really funny or weird I guess. I can’t explain as it does make me feel different and very deep inside when I hear the waves even when sober and I guess many will agree. Anyways so this was it. I had tried many drinks already so not a dire need to do it more, I have enough confidence to talk to any one around now and say whatever I think really and I think people converse better when they are sober anyways. I don’t feel weird dancing without any drinks either now. And adventure I do more without getting drunk anyways so that reason also is not required. So here it was I quit drinking.

2013-05-21 18.28.51 2013-06-07 19.15.29 2013-06-07 19.16.05 2013-06-07 19.28.46

Although every now and then I do think what I might miss if I go to Octoberfest one day 🙂 But never mind it was never a part of my life I really cherish so I can spare myself any more trouble due to it. And you know what I feel really good and proud to take this decision now.

So here I was with bunch of friends on a pub-crawl. I did have to order cranberry juice as it does looks like vodka mix so no body stare at you thinking what are you doing in pub or bar with juice in your hand. Some people do that at times though. I had a list of 7 famous bars that day and it went really well as we visited 6 of them and girls loved it. And it was something I laughed about later as every time I was telling the bar man to give me juice and also saying I just quit yesterday so no alcohol for me please. And some people just loved hearing this as they were not drinking behind the bar anyways.

So here was the last week activity which I would count as something new for the week under my bucket list. Also here is the list of some awesome pubs in Sydney if you are around.

  1. DeVine, 32 Market St, Sydney 2000
  2. Baxter Inn, 156 Clarence Street, Sydney 2000
  3. Mojo Record Bar, 73 York St , Sydney 2000
  4. Stitch Bar, 61 York St, Sydney 2000
  5. Palmer and Co, Abercrombie Ln, Sydney 2000
  6. The Morrison Bar and Oyster Room, 225 George St, Sydney 2000
  7. Blu Bar On 36, 36/176 Cumberland St, Sydney NSW 2000

Bucket-List 2013 Week 5 – Spanish Food with Sangria and a fun run

Item #50 – Do one thing new each week and Item # 13 Try at-least 10 different cuisines

It was not something I had in my mind that day but sometimes things happened. I was free for lunch and had to go out to get something to eat. Then I realized why shouldn’t I try a new cuisines after all it’s on my bucket list. So I searched  one nice Spanish restaurant to try something authentic. Now I was on my lunch break to nice restaurant called ‘Iberico’ which I didn’t realize was a little bit too far looking at the time for my lunch break. I somehow managed to get there and asked the waiter what’s the most authentic I could have there. I was told that some dish with meatballs and roasted chicken is good. Now it’s already two weeks so I seriously don’t remember what dish I ate to be honest. Sorry about that, but I also decided to try Spanish drink – Sangria. Although it was a drink I seriously think now looking back at the sequence of the events. I waited for quiet a long to get my food and I started questioning my decision to come here for lunch specially when I had to be back by 2:30 PM for a training with the client. Finally my food was there. It was delicious no doubt and Sangria was awesome. Only I had to eat it a hurry which I really didn’t liked. Drinking faster can have some effect on you I can say now.

20130530_133445 20130530_133453 20130530_133809 20130530_133846

I was on my way back when I got a call from others that they are leaving to the venue for the training and if I am around to join as well. By now I could feel the effect of nice Sangria as I was feeling more than happy on the street walking back. I was late and realized that I might not make it on time by this speed and these many crossings in Sydney CBD. I still needed to go back to workplace to get the exact address where I had to go and a notepad. So I headed to work first. And towards the end I realized I was almost jogging my way there. Now I got another call from work asking where I am as the training was about to start in 15 minutes and they are on the way. It gave me a kick and I took my notepad from my desk and noted down the address. Then once I was back on the road, I almost started running. It started to get a bit sweaty and soon I had to take off my overcoat. People started realizing that a girl in heels with some stationary is running so they gave me way which made it easier for me to cross the roads and pavements. Some also gave me a surprising smile and started feeling that I am making friends for few moments. It was overwhelming to see people smiling at me and having a laugh when they saw me running towards them. Soon I heard a voice and saw my boss and others running and trying to catch up with me. ‘Wow’ was how my running effort was described. They were surprised how 5 minutes ago I talked to them from work place and how here I was on a sprint. My boss exclaimed that he saw someone sprinting past and then he realized it is me and they all started running to stop me. For rest of the training session I had to make sure I don’t look funny due to that drink I had. I guess running helped me sober up a little. What a day I had. I would say it consist both – trying a new thing (running for a training on heels) and trying a new cuisines.

So far I have tried the following new cuisines:

  1. Belgian Cuisine
  2. Lebanese Cuisine
  3. Vietnemese
  4. Italian
  5. Spanish

Can I just say – Indian, just joking 😉

Hope you had fun reading this. Don’t try running on heels I can advice 😉

Don’t Drink before Diving with Great White Sharks – Bucket-List 2013 Week 5

Finally with a cup of ginger and lemon tea I am gaining my senses back. It’s been quiet a long period I would say since I had left for Adelaide and from a simple weekend away gateway it turned into a roller coaster adventure with a lot of things packed into very few days.

Item Number #23 – Swim with White Sharks and Item Number #10 – Try couch surfing in Australia

Eyeballing the cage

I left for the Airport to complete another item on my bucket list and it was couch surfing and visit one of the 7 new city/town in next 7 months. It was a cloudy day in Adelaide and I was not sure what I will be doing in this part of South Australia looking at the weather. All I had planned was to book a return ticket and arranged to couch surf there. Other than this I had no clue what I am supposed to do in this new place. I am getting used to of this now – going to a new place with no plan and do stuff there accordingly. Only if I knew I will end up encountering a dozen sharks after no sleep and few drinks one of these nights I was about to spend in South Australia. Yes right, it is not a good idea to drink if you are going to dive with great white sharks my dear friends. And this is coming from my personal experience.

I arrived at the place I was supposed to stay and there was a surprise waiting for me there. I realized that I was about to meet few fellow couch surfers and talk all day about life and philosophy and learn a lot of new things today. I didn’t have much sleep the day before the flight so I was a bit tired and cloudy weather seemed perfect to relax and wind down after 16 very busy days of my life (including sailing lesson and attending many social events other than trying to come up with many ideas to finish few bucket list items and not to say full time work with two night time deployments). I was feeling so happy to finally get this weekend for myself. I was at the door of my host in Adelaide and Sebastian, fellow German couch surfer welcomed me in this new place. It was a different feeling to be in this house. Something spiritual about the house and peaceful environment. I felt so happy instantly and started to relish the beauty of this new place with a garden, a pet cat and few chicken in the backyard. The lady who was hosting me wasn’t around so Sebastian, who was also couch surfing there gave me a quick run of the place and offered me some Jasmine tea. It was quiet refreshing. We talked about a lot of things including bin diving or so called dumpster diving. The people here were doing some bin diving which I had no clue what it was so I really enjoyed learning about it. And guess what here is a complete guide about it as well – Dumpster-Dive

Then I met another girl named Ariana, who was living there with the host (lady). She is a brilliant and charming 19 years old Indian girl. I enjoyed my conversation with her about India, social problems in India and a lot more. I already felt that I am going to miss staying here once I am back. Marion, the lady who was hosting me here, also arrived from Victoria as she was gone to attend a retreat and we discussed her experience there. Another couch surfer Nick joined us towards the night. Marion is a great lady and an awesome host. Last year she hosted more than 200 people at her place. Amazing right. Here I was enjoying my first couch surfing experience with such an amazement.

Next day I prepared cheesy egg frittata with Nick for three of use (Nick, Sebastian and myself) as Marion already had her breakfast and Ariana had left for her Art school workshop. And guess what it was the best meal I ate after a while, may be because I was cooking 😉 Anyways I felt home at that place and we started making plans for the day when I started checking about Shark Diving in the area as mentioned by Ariana a day before. I am not sure what came over me and I booked the returned ticket to Port Lincoln in another two house for the dive as it was one of the things on my bucket list. I was lucky when I called the tour company and they say the tour is being operated everyday and there are quiet good chances to see shark these days. Only issue was my return flight was around 6:30 PM and the tour doesn’t usually end till late evening. I was a bit in mess now as I had to be back somehow to be back at work on Monday morning. Here I was sitting in-front of the chair and wanted to bang my head against the wall thinking of my hastiness at times. But any ways I saw this as an opportunity to complete the task on my bucket list and felt quiet enthusiastic and somehow I felt I can make it and things will be alright. So I booked a night in Port Lincoln and early morning (6 AM) tour for cage diving with the great white dangerous sharks. I left Adelaide with a note that if they don’t hear back from me then I might be in some shark’s stomach 😉

I arrived at the hostel where I was staying for the night – YHA. I already started meeting people who were going for the dive or who had done it. I was so excited that I can’t put it into words. I met this group of English guys and had my dinner talking to them about their experience with the sharks and sharing my experience of my bucket list so far. More people joined us and here I was playing different weirdly named card games (one of them was shithead, I wasn’t sure if it was the right name really). I was enjoying the game when everyone started drinking wine and I was offered some as well. I thought for a moment but then joined everyone else. I am not sure what was I thinking really as after few drinks I was not sure how am I going to make it for the early morning departure to the port. And on top of that I agreed to go to the pub with others. Here I was feeling all uneasy with the constant reminder of the tour so I went outside the pub to get some air. The worst was still waiting though. When I wanted to go back the bouncer didn’t allow me in saying that after 1 AM no one is allowed back into the pub. It was one of the most stupid thing I had ever heard whereas the group I came with was still inside. I called a taxi and made my home to get some sleep then. Only when I arrived at the hostel I realized that someone from the group had borrowed my key as they didn’t have their key handy. This was not looking good anymore. Fun time seemed to be over. I had two choices – Try to sleep in the living area in the couch. But then I had to get my key back to check out in the morning. I tried to knock on the door but no one opened the room I was staying. I was already regretting over the decision of drinking tonight. I decided to stay awake till others come back and get my key back to let myself into my room. It was so hard to keep my eyes open. I made my way to the kitchen and made some tea for myself. There was some free food in the fridge and I got some munchies from the shelf to make sure that I am fully awake this night no matter what. It was getting really hard to manage things at this stage now. I was partially awake when after few hours may be around 3 AM when two guys came from the group and asked me what I am doing here. I explained that I do not have the key. They felt sad for me after knowing the whole story and stayed with me in the living room to wait for others to be back so that I can get my key back. I was more assured now that I might be able to make it to the port tomorrow morning.

Finally I got my key around 4 AM and let myself in the room and got ready to sleep for two hours as the tour bus was supposed to be there by 6:30 AM. It was going to be the most ridiculous thing I had ever done I felt. But anyways I was in the flow making my journey more adventurous then it could be I thought. But it was still not that easy. There were many knocks on the door all night as there were quiet a few people drinking from my room and none of them had key. Yes it was a day of loosing key I felt. 6 AM – Someone’s alarm went off. I woke up quickly and saw others getting ready to leave. And I ran after them and realized that they didn’t bother to ask the driver to wait for few minutes. Here I was all ready but had missed my bus. I called the tour company and thankfully they send me another cab. I was finally able to catch the boat.

We all were welcomed with some early morning snacks. And I got introduced to this couple from Perth who were here to celebrate their second anniversary. What a great way to celebrate, although people were making jokes around wife to have a insurance for the husband. I didn’t take much time to drift to deep sleep when we left for a 3 hour journey to Neptune Island for our dive.

Finally some one from the crew woke me up and asked if I can go with the first group. Wow, this was quiet a wake up call now as my stomach was hurting with this bumpy ride till here and I still was suffering from the hangover. Really, Do I look so keen? I felt that it’s better to just go so I accepted to be the part of the first group. And they gave me all the gears to get ready.

It was quiet a relief when I came to know that we do not have to carry cylinder as they had tubes to supply oxygen in the cage. We were soon getting interviewed about how excited we were to see the sharks. To be honest I couldn’t be more dazed doing something like this after a really big night. But I had to smile on the camera no matter what as it was going to be my big moment, if only I survive and not get eaten by any shark interested in me. I finally got into water and felt a surge of excitement in me. My inside diver was coming out full of curiosity. I soon was a normal diver with my brain functioning quiet well now under water. And I started looking for the sharks around. It wasn’t long that we started spotting few of them swimming around. Soon we were a bit shaken in the cage by their excitement to catch the food thrown from the boat. One of them even hit the cage so hard that I had to hold myself back not to swim out the gap in the cage. It was mind blowing to see them so close where I had an eye on the gap as there are stories of small sharks entering the cage through it.

Finally after an hour we went out the cage which was good as I was freezing by then and was done with shark seeing. We had our lunch once we got changed after a shower. I was tired and happy and excited all at the same time. I felt as if I was mesmerized by these beautiful but dangerous creatures. I was so lucky in terms of timing as today it was a small group of people and we got to see shark soon as compared to other days. Hence we headed back way too early – 2 PM. And got back by 4:30 PM and I had enough time to catch my flight back to Adelaide.

Posing with Dani, the host in the tour – she is just awesome 🙂

I am lucky when it comes to meet people I guess as on my way to Airport I got to share the taxi with this another amazing group of Tennis players who shared their experience of traveling around the world and it didn’t let me feel bore on the way to airport or another hour spent there. I was over the moon now after everything was falling in place. When I got back to Adelaide, I went back to the same place I was couch surfing. I met Marion and Sebastian there. I offered to cook some Indian curry and rice. We all shared the meal and it was the perfect way to end this trip really. Next morning my flight was very early (6 AM). Yes, this is early for me usually as I had to be there by 5 AM and that meant I had to get up by 4:30 at least. Marion was so helpful that she offered me lift to the airport in the morning. We enjoyed music – Santana by Carlos Augusto Alves Santana, a Mexican and American musician. I loved it. I was able to catch my flight to Sydney and went to work straight from the airport. I have done it few other times last year so it was OK to see people staring at me thinking I might have lost my way to enter with my big backpack.

So this was my adventure for this weekend. I hope you enjoyed it with me 😉

See you soon with more updates on my bucket list dear friends. Till then have fun 🙂

Bucket-List 2013 Week 4 – WordPress 10th Anniversary (Blogger’s Event)

Hello My Dear Friends,

I am back with some good news about this week as I have got some update for my bucket list with the start of the week.

Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you haven’t had a look. My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

Item Number #19 – Attend blogger’s event

I got there after almost dancing in the rain. It was a tough day as I had too much load and things to finish up so I lost track of time and it was almost 6 PM when I realized that the place for the WordPress event on it’s 10th Anniversary is a bit further away then I had imagined. All I could do was to practice for my marathon now. It was a good idea that I put my runners on, I might have looked quiet funny with my dress and then runner on top of that but it was better than trying to drag my high heel sandals in the rain. Finally I got there and was running 5 minutes late which didn’t cause any furry in the midst of the session which was quiet a relief. I was asked to talk about my blogging experience by Will Brown, the organizer of the event. It was a great opportunity but I didn’t get much time to prepare for the same as I was busy working on my bucket list the whole weekend. But I got there with my website (https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com) and explained my experience with WordPress and how I have been able to manage this website as a blogger and what features I really use more often.

It was just an amazing experience I had today as after talking about the website and explaining its feature. After the session many people came to me to talk about it and appreciated the blog and website and we discussed about how long I have been using WordPress and what they want to do with WordPress (either business or personal usage). Then some of us headed to the bar to continue the exchange of ideas. It was 10:30 PM and I had to head back to home but I felt so content with these few hours and this also ticked off one of the items on my bucket list.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 3 – Aroma and taste with a glass of wine

There is some more update that I had to put for last week as I do have one item #50 that says – ‘Each Week’ and anther one on trying different cuisines. Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you don’t remember or haven’t had a look yet. My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears. One items already finished earlier this week: One item crossed off the list with an awesome day

Also another post on the week before since I have started this bucket list of mine.https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/bucket-list-2013-week-1-belgian-beer-and-a-girl-with-a-hood/

Now time for the weekly item #50 – Do one thing new each week

Last week new thing was to attend a social party at my own and it might not be different for you but for me it was a big thing.  I was a bit confused but then I paid $15 AUD for the party and that kind of made sure that I have a ticket and now I need to make sure I go there, after all I have paid for it. I was a bit confused about this whole thing initially and few times I also got a bit nervous to be honest. But since I have started my bucket list, I have done so many things that I guess my fear about meeting people or strangers is going away. And also I organized an event myself for a meetup group that I own now last week so each time I think it’s getting easier for me to just walk in and start talking to people there. After all we all are there for the same purpose – meet people. It was on Friday and when I arrived there I saw many Indian guys around and as per the invite it was supposed to be for Sydney Expats (may be that includes many Indians these days). Not that I have any problem with that but I was expecting more of a mixed crowd really to get to know more about different culture but then I realized that the organizer himself is Indian so this might not be a co-incident after all.

Any ways I met two girls at first, both from New Zealand. It was a delight to talk to them and we all get along very well. The girls were impressed by me as I showed up there by myself and that gave me a boost to get more confident although I kind of stayed around the same table half of the time. See I just couldn’t think of leaving the table and move around the room and talk to more people. So I still need to work on my skills or may be it was a evening event and involved drinks so I didn’t find myself too comfortable talking to many people just randomly. Later that evening I met many people as although I had fixed my position but many others were moving so it made my job less hectic. I met a Persian lady after some time who realized that I am a bit nervous about moving across the room so she took me by hand literally and got into as many groups as possible so that I meet more people. It was fun as we were more of a team now and it made it easier to approach groups and introduce ourselves than going all by myself. I enjoyed this process in her company but as I had to start my sailing course the next day so I took my leave around 10 PM. It was an eventful night talking to many people from various industries and backgrounds.

Item Number #30 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

Last week I tried the below cuisines:

  1. Vietnemese – I tried famous Vietnamese soup ‘Pho’ with chicken. It was so delicious and healthy as well.

20130521_213527 20130521_213532 20130521_2135412. Italian – ‘Gnocchi con pecorino al tartufo’ potato gnocchi, butter, truffled pecorino  in ‘Uccello’ at Ivy, Sydney

So that makes it total four cuisines so far  including Belgian and Lebanese (see the link below for the same. Six more to go to complete item number #30

https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/bucket-list-2013-week-1-belgian-beer-and-a-girl-with-a-hood/

Alright, I will come back soon for this week’s update as we are in week 4 now and I am hoping to bring you some really exciting news next week as the next item on my list is very new to me and it might change the way I travel even. Till then keep smiling and stay happy my dear friend.

Kavita

Bucket-List 2013 Week 3 – Sailing Lesson

20130525_155935

Hi My Dear Friends,

I am back with more updates for 3rd week. As promised I am here with the pictures of one of the items in my bucket-list for this year.

Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you haven’t had a look.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

One items already finished earlier this week: One item crossed off the list with an awesome day

Also another post on the week before since I have started this bucket list of mine.https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/bucket-list-2013-week-1-belgian-beer-and-a-girl-with-a-hood/ and updates from week 2 – https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/22/bucket-list-2013-week-2-bridge-climb-social-event-and-a-lot-more/

Now I had an awesome day as I was out learning how to sail. To be honest it was a bit bizarre to put this on my bucket list to try I felt few times as this is not something I had ever thought about. But I am really glad that I did it as it was so much to learn and awesome fun.

item number #39 – Learn to sail in the world’s best harbor: Darling Harbor

Started walking around the harbor for the class and took some amazing shots as otherwise I am hardly out of bed by this time on a weekend so it was good to have some fresh air. It was quiet refreshing actually. Then I went for my class on time which I am proud of 😉 especially on the weekend.

I was about to start my course for Hunter 33 boat. And David was our instructor. The Hunter 33 is a combination of comfort and performance. With the beam located well aft, there is more interior space, without sacrificing performance. David is an amazing instructor and very patient as well  as I was so naive with any terminology of this sailing world and the various concepts he was teaching us about. But he was encouraging at the same time so it helped quiet a lot to learn more in short time. Its a two days course to introduce a newbie in the field. If I go out on a boat then I would love to sail it now 😉 Here are some shots for the day. And I am very happy to cross off one more thing from my bucket-list.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 2 – Bridge Climb, social event and a lot more

Hello My Dear Friend,

A big warm hug and beautiful smile for you 🙂

You must have been thinking where have I gone after declaring this big bucket list here. I have been busy doing the stuff I promised I would do and guess what, its been awesome doing things like this. I am back to share the snippets of my week.

Also another post on the week before since I have started this bucket list of mine.

Belgian beer and a girl with a hood

Now coming back to last week I had so much planned for last week and everything went quiet well leaving me a little tired after the week. I started my week with some

Item Number #21 – Eat in one of the best restaurant each month – Bar H, Surry Hills

It was my flatmate/friend’s birthday a month ago and I had booked this place for almost a month to celebrate. This place is usually booked for few weeks in advance but finally we had an amazing dinner here last week. It was a seven course banquet with red wine in Bar H (http://www.barhsurryhills.com/). My friend just loved it so next time you are in this area, this place is definitely worth trying.

20130515_213934 20130515_213954 20130515_213515 20130515_213510 20130515_210319 20130515_210257 20130515_210209 20130515_204934 20130515_204924

It’s a 1 chef’s hat restaurant (Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2013), run by MasterChef guest chef Hamish Ingham.  Our courses included Crispy skinned spatchcock, Braised beef short rib, Chilled silken tofu and Steamed pork wontons accompanied with leaf salad and jasmine rice. We had an awesome night with good food, good wine and nice music.

Item Number #30 – Try at least 10 different cuisines -Lebanese Cuisine

Yes that’s right, I did try Lebanese cuisine last week and that too a kebab that every one talks about. Being vegetarian all my life, I never really tried a lot of things. But now that I have been more flexible, then I am able to choose lot more things in various cuisines. I loved this Kebab other than beef which think I do not enjoy so much so I better avoid eating it. My friend Jonathan introduced me to this food and I enjoyed his company with this awesome new cuisine. Although there are so many more cuisines on my list as of now and I would say that this bucket list is just an excuse to eat good food every now and then and trying new flavours for a person like me who usually sticks to the tried and tested food generally.

Item Number #47 – Climb the coat-hanger, Sydney Harbour bridge

Now that I have ticked off another item from my bucket list completely, I would like to share my experience with you more in detail in another post as I don’t feel I would do any justice if I try to write only few lines about my experience of climbing the most famous bridge of Australia. So let me come back to you with another post for the same to enjoy my experience with me on top of the Harbour bridge 🙂

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week – Organized a social event for 10 people

This is an ongoing work that I will keep my mind busy working and organizing something new. It really helps me to keep my creative edge working to plan something different each week and trust me, a lot of good things are coming out of it. Last week I organized a social get together event in a well known glamorous urban oasis  – Ivy (http://merivale.com.au/ivy).

argyle_164_1_r0x255-1_c225x225-0x0q100  images Palings_2013_May-8_2

It offers eight bars and beautiful restaurants. Here I was organizing this for people I had never met before and it end up into a successful event where people just loved it and I made some new friends there. We had planned to go to this one pub but then looking at the interested parties we went to another pub – Establishment in the city (http://merivale.com.au/establishmentbar) for few more drinks.

It also falls under the same ownership. Then few girls were hungry so we went to favourite night spot – Hungry Jacks for some snacks where we were able to talk without any noise or loud music.

Later we headed to another famous place ‘ The Argyle'(http://www.theargylerocks.com/). The night was just amazing with these new friends I just made and we all enjoyed it a lot.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 1 – Belgian Beer and a Girl with a hood

Hello My Lovely Bloggers,

A big hug to all from me. I had an amazing few days since I have started this bucket-list for this year. And I am back to share it with you to spread this joy around. You know I have 50 items of all sorts of things on my bucket list for 2013. Here is also a link for the same if you haven’t had a look.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

One items already finished earlier this week:

One item crossed off the list with an awesome day

Friday night with bunch of girls with party dress and then a getting changed into totally different look with boots and a hood for a beer and some good music alone. I can’t believe its just Saturday night now and I still have a full day left whereas I feel like I have lived almost a whole life in last few days. As you know I have big time fear to go into a bar/pub by myself. Not any more…lol….makes me happy to say that finally…as I have been on this mission now and feeling that its going away. It might still take a while to get an expert in it..lol..but it will happen and I am certain about that.

Item Number #30 – Try at least 10 different cuisines – Belgian Cuisine and Belgian Beer

I was supposed to meet this group of people from new meetup group I just joined in a Belgian beer cafe and I was happy to try this new  place called ‘Heritage bar and restaurant’. It was a shame as no one turned up and in other situations I would have been completely. But not today not this year my dear friend. It will be very hard for life to disappoint me now that I have got a taste of happiness. So here I was seeing opportunity to go to this bar by myself as part of overcoming one of my fear https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/07/what-are-my-fears-people-say-i-dont-have-any-but-lets-look-at-it/  (item #50). So I went in and asked at the reception if any one from the group has arrived. Answer was no. I went in and checked for the best Belgian beer and as I am a sweet tooth so thought that something sweet will be nice. Finally I got myself ‘Kriek’. Kriek lambic is a style of Belgian beer, made by fermenting lambic with sour Morello cherries. The name is derived from theDutch word for this type of cherry (kriek).

I just loved it as I had Bavarian beer before but never Belgian so only today I came to know that it’s known one of the best in the world. And I loved it as well. With a nice book I had a good hour by myself. Then I realised that I can try the food and that will make towards item #30 on my bucket list as well. So I ordered ‘White Rabbit Pie braised in dark beer served atop creamy mash potato and Dutch carrots‘ for mains. I know I am not vegetarian anymore that’s what I just told my flatmate as well. But I think this year for me is all about knowing and experiencing new things and it is one of them. Food was good as well and meanwhile there was a guy sitting in the bar for quiet some time in very casual clothes and a backpack that gave me clue for him being a traveler. And you know what since I have started travelling, I have got a sweet spot for travelers in my heart and whenever possible I try to make sure that they feel home even for an hour or so talking to them at times. And also I am always curious to know about their experience. I am not too bold to go to every traveler and start talking but I don’t miss an opportunity either. So here I was having dinner and this guy was also trying to order dinner for himself. It was a moment when I realized that both sides there is an amount of willingness to share the company for dinner than sitting alone. So I introduced myself and came to know this very nice guy, Boris, is from Russia who was travelling here and New Zealand for two weeks. Conversation started with some facts and direction soon went towards philosophy and why people travel kind of topics. It was just an amazing time during I had really. Such a mind opening time when this person was questioning many things that I never even bothered to think. It is awesome to talk to people from different culture and countries. As you get to see a whole different perspective at times of world and life and so much more. So I accompanied this fellow traveler, feeling myself a traveler as well, to the train station and till this time it felt like we are friends from a long time. This is the best feeling with travelling and travelers at times I think when it doesn’t take long to get along as both people are so friendly and open to talk to others. I bid good bye to Boris and promised if I ever come to Russia then I will visit him. What best can be there than to have a local to show you around.

So I am one more step closer to my bucket-list. Oh you are waiting for the interesting news from yesterday – Girl with a hood? OK, right I need to share that. Now before I start let me tell you that I used to read a lot of comic books when I was a kid and always believed in super heroes who save the world in the night. I know sounds funny right but that was me when I was growing up really 😉 So here is the story:

Time: 11:30 PM

Phone ringing… ‘Hey Beijie, Do you want to join for a drink? I am at the train station just got back after meeting friends for drink’

‘No, I am going to bed as feeling tired dear so you have fun and I will talk to you tomorrow.”

“Alright, I am just walking home as well.”

Dressed in a party dress and a white fur coat. Listening to music and walking a bit slower because of the high heels. Walking home in the hope to get rid of the sandals as soon as possible. Still willing to go for another drink after 3 vodka and one wine….got home cold and quickly got changed with so much energy…may be the clothes were not comfortable… now dressed in jacket with a hood and boots…another image of darkness, trying to get lost in the night and walk to get few drinks. Getting over the fear of loneliness and daring to go alone to a bar. Sitting in front of the heater re-thinking the whole plan of going out again. It was an adventure if I do and also can turn into something really stupid after few drinks I already had. But no matter what I was thrilled with this idea of going to a cool bar I had just searched for -‘Kelly’s on King’. So finally I thought I can at least just go for a walk. So I got my phone with music on and got the hood on and left home. Here I was all on my own feeling like some super hero out and about. Got near the bar where I wanted to go but then I went to ATM to get some money and headed back to the bar. It was one of the coolest bars with Karaoke on the move. I enjoyed a beer with awesome ambiance. It was a good thing to listen to my heart really. I came home and slept like a baby as I had to meet a friend this morning for breakfast. So this was the story. Let me know what do you think 😉 I know it’s getting too much of the bar fear thing…I am also thinking in the same like and I think I should better start work upon my half Marathon goal before putting on more weight with these drinks now. Bye for now, I will be back with further updates..promise for year 2013 😉

Keep smiling and stay happy my dear friend!

Bucket-List 2013 Week 1 – One item complete with few fun days

2013-05-06 17.48.10

Hello my dear blogger,

You know what, I can call myself a bucket-Lister now. And you know why because I have already started the adventure from yesterday. Sorry couldn’t give you update as I was busy with an awesome event I was attending and came home really late. Wait I will share all my fun with you of course.

Here you go first thing first – As you know I had finalized my bucket-list for 2013. If you don’t know yet then here is my adventurous and fun list for this year.

Bucket List for 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My fears

So now you know what is my item number #46 ? Right ‘Have a schooner at Australia’s oldest pub: Fortune of War pub, Sydney‘.

And guess what I have done it…yippi…today. I thought why not cross of some easy and quick things during the week. But as you would know from my list of fears – one of them is to go to a bar or pub by myself. So here in this item it was not just one thing but two really. It was about completing the task and what made it more challenging was that I can’t  walk into a bar/pub by myself. So here I was avoiding to go there and end up working in office till 7 PM and finally thought to go home and leave this task for some other day. Then suddenly a thought came in my head – what if I just do it that way I will be able to cross of one item from my list and say that I have done it. And then I started walking to the oldest pub in Sydney – ‘Fortune of War pub’. And while going there I tried to be cool about the whole thing so started listening to music, although my brain kept telling me to go back as I was getting so nervous thinking what will I do there? Will I be able to even name the drink? I have of course been to many pub/bar but just not by myself. It was the longest path I ever walked to any pub I think. But as soon I got there, I smoothly entered there and ordered my drink. It was surprisingly smooth. As if I am just used to of going to pubs and drink by myself. Although a nervous feeling kicked again looking around and not seeing many girls and none of them were by themselves. But there were many guys by themselves. I don’t mind to talk to any stranger but this is not the kind of place I really prefer as people have different agendas and I was there just for my bucket-list and it could be a hard job to explain that to some one really drunk. But anyways I was lucky to get a call from my flatmate and I had company on phone and she couldn’t believe that I went to bar myself and couldn’t stop laughing. And it took me 30 minutes to finish my drink and then I finally took a train home. And the picture above is not from today as guess what I didn’t take any picture as that might have looked a bit too much – going to bar and taking pictures 😉

Now also few more awesome things happened today and yesterday. Let’s finish stories of today first. I was coming back home when I saw my next door neighbors sitting outside their house. I went inside feeling that I would like to get to know these people. I felt a but shy going to them and initiate a conversation at my own. But then the beer early this evening was handy. I went back and said hello to them and it turned out into a more than half hour session of laugh and get-to-know-each-other time that I just loved it. I then realized that I have awesome people living not far from me. So yes, sometimes if you feel something in your heart its worth doing it or at least giving it a go. I am just learning this as I have my own fears and hesitations. But this year I will set my soul free…lol…or at least try to do so.

2013-05-09 19.17.03

Martin Place – On the way to the bar!

Now time for the weekly item #50 – Do one thing new each week

What could I have done? Guess..oh just take a wild guess…alright I will tell. I have been vegetarian all my life. Only recently I had chicken in the plane from Sri Lanka to India when they mixed my choice of meal and I didn’t want to stay hungry so I got myself into eating chicken. I should make it clear that I don’t have any religion restriction for the same as I am not religious. But its moreover my choice. So yesterday I was out with other people and they ordered steak. And I thought why not do this as new thing for the week. And I ordered it without knowing what it is exactly. Then one person in the group realized that I am vegetarian and they felt I might have ordered it by mistake but there I was not going to back out from it even after know what it was now. I wouldn’t say I liked it but at least now I know how it taste. It’s more about trying new things and opening my senses to things and tastes, smells, feelings and a lot more this year. I still prefer vegetarian food but now I can survive no matter where I go as I have removed that hesitation from inside me.

Item Number #50 – Overcome one fear

This is an area where I have been working upon more than one fears at the moment. You can check them out in my list of fears. Here they are:

  1. Fear of loneliness
  2. Fear of boredom
  3. Fear of rejection
  4. Fear of unknown

I am working on my first two fears by staying happy and comfortable with my own company at home. I write and try to lessen the feeling of not being able to do anything when at home by relaxing and writing and then listen to my heart and do something fun if I feel like. Not by planning but more spontaneous I would say.

Third one (rejection) is something I am working upon as well by reasoning the reason for others reaction or behavior and also by not taking things personally. I can notice the difference in small things now which is a good sign. But you know what I am not even feeling that people are rude as I am trying to put myself into their shoes. But of-course it will take some time.

What are my fears? People say I don’t have any…but let’s look at it

DSC07354

I just got a very good idea from the comment section of my last post : https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/my-promise-to-myself-for-5-years-to-live-life-fully-first-installment-is-here-already-bucket-list-2013/ from my amazing family of bloggers. specially when chandanimane mentioned it specifically after Jill London gave me a compliment by calling me fearless. I might have to think hard to name some good one but little ones can take more space here…lol…friends like them make you think harder about not only what you can do but also what you can’t and why and then turn these failures into success. Thanks to you my friends.

I know I can do sky diving but if I have to meet friends in a bar for instance then it’s hard for me to go there by myself and wait. I rather wait outside on the street somewhere till they actually turn up. There is a recent incidence regarding it where I was told the bar I was supposed to go and from location I knew the place well. I arrived a little early and my friends were a bit late so that made a gap of 30 minutes. I didn’t have any clue what to do now. I walked up and down the street few times and finally went to a shop for window shopping. I wanted to just go inside the bar at my own. But I couldn’t for some reason. May be because I have never done it before. But there is always a first for every thing. I thought about it in the shop and decided to go in no matter what. I saw the watch and still there were 10 minutes left. So I told myself – man up, its not a war zone you are entering girl. Then I finally walked in and I was so amazed at myself that I couldn’t even tell the bartender what I really wanted and was beating the bush for few minutes. But then I was able to finally get vodka with cranberry juice that too 2 PM in the afternoon. Very unusual of me…I know it was not a big deal, but to be honest sometimes I feel I can do things which people are scared of but at the same time I avoid doing simple things that takes not much effort.

So when we talk about fears, every one has some. I am thinking right now to come up with some as I am writing. I like trying new food at times but that’s another fear I am trying hard to overcome as I think I get used to of one good taste and I don’t like to experiment too much after that and can stick to one dish like pad Thai for a year. Insane right but I have done it… 🙂

  1. Fear of loneliness – I hate being by myself on the weekend…I have been working on this as of now
  2. Fear of boredom – I can’t stay alone and I figured it out because I get bored…although I have started working on this already from last weekend..Guys you know what I simply just can’t sit and do nothing…I am not one of those chick who can go to beach and just stay there for hours doing nothing although I wish sometime…either I have to keep swimming or just do something…Although it’s OK sometimes to be able to just relax and I am just learning to do this …after all I am in Australia so I need to be able to do that…..lol  I am just joking 😉
  3. Fear of being ignored – I think I like to be recognized and being seen and as I was a single child for long time before my brother came to the world and that makes it 7 years. Going to neighborhood was not really appreciated and I was good at studies so was always a teacher’s pet. Not anymore OK so please don’t think of making fun of me….lol
  4. Fear of rejection – I have written a complete post – Treatment of rejection – https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/04/26/treatment-for-rejection/, about it and you know what after all that analysis I have done I am overcoming this to quiet an extent.
  5. Loosing my freedom – If you know me friends then you would know my way of living. I have a post to show more about my life here – https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/04/25/what-keeps-me-alive-want-to-know-lets-have-a-look/. So now you can guess that it’s hard for me to lose this freedom and to this extent that I feel scared of being too close to people at times when they start to think that they have a say in my life and take my decision on my behalf or force their views on me. I don’t mind taking advice but I just don’t follow anyone blindly to be honest.
  6. Fear of unknown – I am a very planned person so it’s hard for me to stay in a situation where I don’t know what’s coming. Although I guess I have started to adapt on this area. Example: Hawaii trip was a big example where I had no plan and I had the most fun of my life. Here are few post (some with only pictures for quick look and others with some funny stories to tell about my trip there). Although I am still planning a lot of things as you can say but also learning to lose myself into things to enjoy it the same time https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/02/18/hawaii-day-1-started-with-a-stranger-and-ended-up-with-bunch-of-friends/                                                                        https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/01/07/lanikai-beach-kailua-oahu-hawaii/        https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/hawaii-here-i-come-here-begins-the-adventure/ https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/02/22/sunset-at-sunset-beach-with-amazing-creatures-hawaii/
  7. Fear of sickness – I think no one likes it and as we remember how bad it feels when we are sick so I am afraid of getting sick and try everything not to be sick
  8. Fear of missing an early morning flight – Oh dear…here it comes…I am so not a morning person to be frank here and I have also missed a morning 6 AM flight to Brisbane not that I slept in but as planned I was about to take the train to the airport but there were some issues with train track and I missed my flight by 5 minutes. This is not the reason of my fear though, I always panic to catch a flight early in the morning to such an extent that I have slept in the airport to catch few flights, or I should say not actually sleep but more over just snoozed. And I am not sure what to do about it really. Some times I just can’t sleep all night if there is something planned for early in the morning.
  9. Fear of dark and alone places in foreign places with guys in jacket with hood around – I have been in these situations few times and believe me it didn’t feel good. Although I get my extra senses quiet alert and I start thinking of all the possible ways to survive but it’s just the fear that makes me a bit uncomfortable.
  10. Fear of financial crisis – I do not like to be in short of money ever and I make sure I always plan my things and accordingly and I think this is my strength in a way I am so good at managing my money and budget really. But also I would not know how to live if I have no money. One of the reason I postponed to quit job and just go travel for as long as I want. Although I did quit and left my old job to do it but when I got another one then I couldn’t say no to it. Although there are some more reasons as well why I am back in Australia, but still I avoid being in financial crisis by all means.
  11. Fear  of public speaking – Oh yes, this is big on my list just like every one. If I have to give presentation I can do that but normally I am more like a one to one person really. So I become more quiet when in a group of new people. One of those shy ones…lol
  12. Fear of insects crawling on me – Ew..that’s not something I have ever been comfortable but would like to understand these creatures and over come my fear of the same one day.
  13. Fear to cook non vegetarian – I used to be vegetarian so I think I still can’t cook non-veg. I just started chicken on a flight where they just messed up with my meal and I had two choices – stay hungry or eat chicken, so there you go – I did it…I ate chicken so I am not vegetarian anymore but still prefer to eat vegetarian food only.
  14. Harrowing Heights – I don’t know how will I stand on the edge of a platform on top of a very high building
  15. Fear of blood – I usually lose my nerve a little when I see blood specially some one else’s
  16. Fear of violence – I can’t stand people starting to shout each other and then starting a fight
  17. Fear of confined space – Like a place where I can only crawl one way
  18. Fear of interviews – I just lose my nerve thinking of an interview no matter how good I am at things still I can feel butterfly in my stomach before any interview

Now I have talked about the fears so balance it out I would like to mention few things I have no fear as well. It’s for me to soothe myself and to tell myself that you are not just a scary baby my dear….lol

No fear for:

  1. Death
  2. Pain
  3. New adventure
  4. Heights
  5. Meeting strangers
  6. Visiting new places
  7. Doing some thing new
  8. Talking my mind
  9. Accepting advice and act upon it
  10. Accepting my faults
  11. Change
  12. Moving to a new country
  13. Doing what I like
  14. Achieving what I want
  15. Rejecting my own ideas
  16. Fear of commitment
  17. Fear of failure
  18. Initiate a conversation to strangers – I do it usually only when I am travelling though so its subjective really

Wow that worked out well….18 for 18 ..awesome …now I have a lot of work to do on my fears..as at least one of these will be in my bucket list item ’49 – Overcome one fear’ from my list at https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/my-promise-to-myself-for-5-years-to-live-life-fully-first-installment-is-here-already-bucket-list-2013/.

Friends, here I am opening up more of who I am because of the warmth and awesome responses that you have given so far and this gives me that extra strength to be able to do that. Telling your weakness is not easy but it makes you stronger when you do. It makes you in-conquerable.

So I would love you to

  • Share some of your fears here or
  • Tell me how can I overcome mine or
  • Tell your experience of overcoming some of your fears or
  • Just anything really that you would like to tell us …may be just your thoughts about this post 🙂

Death is what we know ends our journey here...

Death – Deadline, Bucket-list – Collection of many milestones…Which way do you prefer living?

All I wanted to write was a list of things to have my own bucket-list, just like many other people out there. But it got me into very deep thought about the way we live our life and why we choose just one list and why there is a hurry to accomplish as many things as possible. Then I thought of giving it an analogy to understand it clearly myself. And as I am thinking the words are finding their own way to you in a form of post. I am still in process of thinking through this whole idea of bucket-list as I have been planning stuff in my life and try to do them as per the plan as the time goes by. But recently while travelling, I heard people talking about their bucket-list a lot. And to be honest I was not into it till few days ago. I think I will still mull over the idea of creating a bucket-list. The issue is not with choosing the things I want to do or would like to do   and not with commitment either, the main thing now looks like to me is that sit back and check what life is really about.

Yes, it does seem like a never ending topic if I do that but we all got to do that some time in our life. Specially when you are on this train ride with death as destination, you need to be very careful to choose what all stops you want to visit and experience. As the time for this ride is limited and stops are unlimited. So one way to do it is choose one path to get from starting point to end. Or try to cover as many areas as possible.

We all are different and have different choices and priorities. We all have our own way to see things and experience life. So most of us will choose accordingly. And doing that we will cross each others path on various stops. Some time we will travel together with some people and make friends and then the next moment we might have to go separate ways because we want to see different stops now. We can try to change our way to spend more times with the people we like and get along well. But the truth is this is a journey so no matter how tight you hold on, it is going to end one day anyways. And that time you would like to be happy with the journey you made. So many people around make different choices and then regret that. But it’s never wrong or right, its all about the different stops we choose and different paths we choose in life.

I think of a bucket-list as a way to collect a lot of things into prioritized manner in one list and set the milestone of our journey that way. As each milestone have some impact on our life, hence experiencing each of them will change the way we look at our life. Its like I feel a changed person every time I travel and see a new place. As the more I see, hear and feel, the more different perspective I have.

I am overwhelmed with so many thoughts in my brain at this moment.

Why do we want to make any list to live life? A question that occurred to me when I heard people talking about bucket-list. But then as always I tried to answer myself – because life is short and there are limitless things to do in the world, so it is important to make a list and pin then down to countable numbers to be able to do as much as possible.

How I am going to make one as there is so much I would like to do? I answer myself again.

My brain – “You need to understand that the list has to contain things that make you happy. And you feel alive again”.

Inner Voice – “Then why don’t I just go travelling as that makes me happy.”

Brain – “Life has got so much more to offer and you don’t have so much money to keep travelling for rest of your life anyways.”

Heart – “Stop talking you two as it hurts to think that you put money as limitations in-front of living the dream of your life.”

Brain – “Alright settle down my dear heart, we will not talk about that OK  But we need to understand that there are so many experiences in the world, and so many feeling to be felt. And in today’s life we all are so busy managing this daily life and keep this human healthy that we can’t focus on what makes us truly happy. Am I right?”

Inner Voice – ” I agree on this”.

Heart – “I need to feel alive again”.

Inner Voice – “I need to be heard again”.

Brain – “Then I need to start working again”.

Lol, that last statement was just for fun. But yes we need to define various areas in our whole being. Even before starting to think about the various fields outside (sports, music etc), it is very important to keep in mind that we need balance in life. And too much exercise and no food for your brain would not give you the true happiness. Here I am not talking about the bucket-list of hundred odd things and get ready to execute them. Here I am talking about giving equal importance to your mind, body and soul. As then only you will be able to decide the things that you would like to do to make them all satisfied and content. And what if we die in the next moment or few days, weeks or months. We might feel as if we missed something. So better take a holistic approach and make sure we achieve a little bit in all areas as we move forward.  Now I think I will not be able to jot down my list in hurry as I feel this topic require lot more than I thought. The deeper I go I feel this might be the most important thing of my life. And if I hurry it then I might be set upon a totally different journey than I would want in real. Hmmm…sometimes I feel its easy not to think much and do things…see that’s exactly how we live these days – don’t want to think and procrastinate everything. And do the minimal that require no new learning each day as its easy to perform the task that we are familiar with. Any ways few more things I need to discuss before setting up a list.

What all things should be there in the list and in what order?  We need to note down some broader field in that case (example: sports, music, health, lifestyle, travel etc). And then once we are done with it then we can choose different items in each area. And then comes the priority of these things in the list. That we should ideally decide on few factors – how much we would love to do it, how much resources it require, how much time needed for its preparation (time, cost, feeling). As for example: running 5 KM marathon can’t be done overnight as it requires training, whereas going on a dinner cruise can be done on any weeknight or week-end night. Then there would be some really long terms things like be an expert in some subject or learning a new language or culture as you have a sea of knowledge to grasp in such cases, so its a part of ongoing learning. Wow this post is getting into shape now. I am thinking to make a very small and handy chart that might help while making your bucket-list if you ever feel like. Not that it require thorough process but just in case you like to think the reason behind things like me then it might be useful as I have done some thinking already. Why don’t I think more on this and get back to you in the next post. You never know as we might think of something big. Please share your thoughts as I might be thinking just in one direction and you might help me in looking at this in a different light altogether.

Wish you a smile, at least few moments of joy and love in your day!
