Item Number #42 – Watch an open air cinema

I always wanted to watch open air cinema hence I changed an item on my bucket list ‘Sleep in luxury with animals at the zoo or sleep in a wartime bunker’ with this. As I realized when I was trying to fit 50 things in my bucket list that time I had to add some random things to increase the number even though I wasn’t quiet keen on those. Hence with time I have changed few of the items on my bucket list to fit something I really wanted to do but didn’t think about it while collating the list.

So yes I was able to complete this bucketlist item when I was in Darwin and I watched an awesome movie ‘Crocodile Dundy’ in this place of crocodiles. It was an amazing experience in the warm night under the stars. Here is a snippet from my day in Darwin – Place to relax and enjoy Crocodile Dundy

Darwin – Place to relax and enjoy Crocodile Dundy

I have been here for last 20 hours and have seen and done enough for a day so far. It was early morning or I should say just after midnight that my flight landed here (1 AM) and I end up spending the night in the airport. Then I took a bus for 16 AUD and got to my hostel around 6 AM. It was nice to keep my stuff away even when they told me to check in later. I had my breakfast (Beef pie with musroom) with my slow brain at that time of the day and hit the road to see the nearby (only) beach. I took pictures and had a little bit of a walk while exploring the new ways in Darwin with a happy mind. It took me through some parks and waterfront areas. I finally got to the beach and felt tired. I then retired at the park near beach and slept there for a while (almost 2 hours). Its not a bad idea to take nap I am thinking now 🙂

Then I came back and headed to my bucket list item – dive with crocodiles. I had an awesome time and will be back with some awesome pics and videos of it. I had fun with my Go Pro this time. Then I came back, checked in, had another nap as I am so super tired and then headed for open air cinema – Movie called ‘Crocodile Dundy’. Awesome day so far and now I feel like going out for a drink if energy in me permits.

Stay tuned as I will be back with pics and more adventure friends 🙂

Hawaii – Day 1 (Started with a stranger and ended up with bunch of friends)

I made it just in time and it was first time I suppose that I did not have to wait in the queue and got myself checked in quickly. As usual I was travelling with my backpack that makes for the carry on as per its weight (less than 8 Kilogram). Now had to grab some snacks before my flight as it was 6 PM and I didn’t want to end up eating something in the flight that I might not like.  Thats it, plane is flying to Honolulu, Hawaii finally. My holidays started and I am more than relaxed thinking about it. My co-passenger is a girl and we have the seats at the very back of the plane. It’s the first time I was sitting this close to the toilet. Although it was not that bad as I was thinking. Rachel, the girl sitting next to me started talking to me and we had an initial introduction. Not sure it is the usual me or the travelling thing as I went on and on with her and we discussed a lot of things, enough to be friends in future. Also we shared some snacks in the seat between us where fortunately no one was sitting. It was really cool to meet her as we didn’t feel that we were travelling on our own as we couldn’t stop giggling. And than we watched a movie on her laptop with shared pair of headphone. Overall we both cherished the experience we had and start planning to hang out in Honolulu as she was staying there for 3 night. coincidentally we both were staying in the same place so that was easy. We both caught the bus to our place. Shuttle bus is 13 USD since the regular bus is 2.5 USD and you can reach almost all the places in Honolulu. So you can choose the option accordingly.

I was staying in ‘Hokondo Waikiki Beachside Hostel’. The staff is very friendly there and they helped us with our backpacks by storing them for us, when we reached there early (directly from the Airport).  It was only then when I realized that my card was not working. New travel card that wasn’t activated yet which was very embarrassing. But the people in the backpacker were friendly and let me check in while I was checking with my bank about the issue. Meanwhile we headed to the beach when I realized it will take few hours to resolve. And there it was the most breathtaking view of the day – beach. Crystal clear blue water..just the most awesome feeling I had that time. We soon jumped into the water for a swim. It took some time before I was able to sort out the issue with my travel money card. Tip – If you are going to buy the travel money card for travelling then do register and check the status and all online to make sure it’s activated by bank as in my case they had forgotten to do so. Finally I checked into my room and met my new roommates including Rachel (girl from the flight). Now it was time to socialize in new place. Fortunately all my roommates (few were missing from the room) were very good and friendly so I didn’t have much trouble making friends. After few hours we headed to get some good food.

Time in Hawaii is 10 hours behind Sydney which makes the next day also 31st January (same day I flew for Hawaii). It is cool as it feels like you have time traveled into the past. You keep thinking that it should be the next day but time wise it is not. It took me a while to get the confusion of date and time out of my system.

We had dinner in Lu-Lu’s, a famous bar and restaurant among backpackers and they have special Tuesday nights in Waikiki beach with 10 USD entry fees. You can go there before 9 PM and get the band for yourself for free and then you don’t have to pay the entry fees when you enter after 9 PM. Few friends of mine did this. I was too busy hanging out with other sets of friends to carry out this. But any ways we had dinner with blue Hawaii cocktail and Pina Colada.

Then after returning to the hostel our new roommate shared some very funny and interesting stories of his friends which made it even more fun. A new girl came to share the room by now (we were in the 8 people room, two rooms each with 4 beds). She joined in the discussion and we just loved the evening. After few more drinks we bid goodnight and had a peaceful and relaxing night.

Movies – Way away from present

Movies are one of the great creative way to live in dream with our eyes open. I am not sure how much I might have to get used to of the fact that most of the times we are actually training our brain to live in a dream. Video games are another example for the same. I always loved movies but now I am in a stage where I am questioning my interest reason being that when watching a movie or anything in TV we are actually ignoring the present. Sitting in a couch and watching something recorded in past or live somewhere else that is not the reality around us. Our brain has to work to create that illusion that this is reality and we start imagining this new world around us whereas we stop focusing on whats actual present.

Not just movies but there are heaps of ways we are actually training our brain to ignore the reality. And now as a result our brain is not focused any more, it keeps getting distracted from the present and either dwell on the past or future but present. I am not sure how much unlearning  will be needed to actually retrain my brain to focus on present and calm down a little bit.

Although we have been able to create a better world by our creativity – a window into the dreams that gives us sense of happiness, but we need to see the bigger picture now and create the beautiful reality around us. Stop living in a movie and create our life more interesting than a movie. Is it possible? May be to some extent. Why not we give it a try. I will try to do this as last time I watched a movie I was thinking more and focusing on movie less. So who knows what I might find out if I am successful in this new path.

But I would share it with you just like other things.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

MovieFiesta

At times we are so comfortable in our life that we assume that this is the only better way to live. The Hobbit changes that perception. Relating to the common audience, Bilbo Baggins (the Hobbit) proves that even when he is leading a happy and content life but still there is a possibility to explore. There is more to life then just being able to provide food and shelter to ourselves. Life is a journey and not a destination. We should not stop at any point otherwise we will be just the audience and not the actor in the movie of our lives.

Time is the best example of how we should live as the clock keeps ticking no matter what. The same is for our body, we keep breathing as long as we are alive and the heart keep pumping. All the things that are alive become a witness for…

Life of Pie – Did you feel your life with Pie?

MovieFiesta

I want to discuss the movie ‘Life of Pie’ today with you all. How many people watched it? Please let me know what did you think about it. I have to watch it again to fully grasp everything as it was overwhelming after a long day at work and 45 degree of heat in summer. It was an escape from the heat and treat for hard work at office.

Movie is no-nonsense and also has got trace of humor in it. A lot of lessons are hidden in everything Pie was going through. I am listing some of the things I felt worth remembering and waiting for more from you.

1. We can tame any wild creature with patient, persistence and will power, even the inner animal in ourselves.

2. Fight or flight is the basic survival instinct of human.

3. Caring for others gives us the reason to survive…
