Spartan Race in Sydney – Arooooo

Now I know its been a very long time I have posted anything here. I know there are no excuses for being lazy but there were certain things that have happened in life in past few months.

I have been very sick since I came back from Peru with a parasite called Blasto Hominis. Good news is that I am on a recovery period. So I will be back with lots of updates for last couple of months and my progress in the bucket list of this year. Glad to be back as I really missed you guys. Hope you are doing well and writing here whenever you get time. Also I have created a new site for my blog that I would like to share with my latest post from April for the obstacle race that I did – Spartan,  before I got really sick.

Color Me Rad – Different version of Holi and way to have fun and be healthy

I did it. Yay…it was one of the best weekend ever really even though I was sick. As I had so much fun and I think I overdid myself so I couldn’t recover from the cold and infection I had but I don’t really regret it. I had my  first race. Although it was a baby run of 5 KM only but it was my first step to any sort of race I would say as I have never run in any race in my life. I wanted to do a half marathan last year but never trained myself for that. But this time it was so much fun with colors and water everywhere. If you have done Colormerad before than you would know what is it all about as it is being held in various parts of the world.

I was there on time (an hour early to register and get my package after online booking). It was a long way away (2.5 hours) to get to the venue. I should have checked the place before signing up – I was told this by my friends which was a good advice. But I could not do the other colour run as I was going to Antarctica that time so this was an awesome opportunity for me to see how I go with running before my next challenge – Spartan (an obstacle course run). Even though it was no where near difficulty wise to Spartan but still it boosted my confidence for my next event for sure and that was enough for me to get going specially when I wasn’t very well for last two days anyways so I think I did ok to run 5 KM in 40 minutes I suppose as we were slowing down at water stations where they were throwing water at you and more so at the colour stations where you had to make sure you don’t open your mouth and also protect your eyes to be able to continue on the race track without any stress.

I hadn’t had so much fun for quiet a long time. There were so many kids in this event as many families were participating. Friends had come in their groups and I was missing mine as my friends were going out of town so they couldn’t be here with me. But the whole atmosphere was just amazing with music, colours, water, smiles and excitement. Before the actual race there was a zumba dance as well that lot of people followed. I couldn’t be a part of it as I took the public transport and I was trying to arrange some place to keep my backpack that I had brought with me with food and spare clothes as there was no bag drop (only issue with this event I felt). But finally I decided to run with my bag when I couldn’t find any solution to this. I was on the first of the three waves (starting 9 , 9:30 and 9:45 AM). And being alone I also managed to get in the front line. And then it started with so many people running towards the first water station and then I realized that it is my first run ever as some of the guys started to take over. And soon I knew that I have to keep up with them not to fall far behind with the rest of the people.  So I think I did good as I was at the finish line in 40 minutes or less. Even though it was a fun run with not much longer distance but it was good enough to boost my motivation for longer runs and to train harder.  Also I have attached pictures from the event. We had an awesome party with music, more colours and lots of dancing afterwards and around 12:30 I had arrived home after an eventful morning can you imagine. What a awesome way to start Sunday. You would hear a lot more about my upcoming challenges now as this year is going to be the other way around. I don’t have a bucket list but I would have things that I would add to it as I go once I do them and believe me this would be better than ever. As there wouldn’t be a pressure of completing things on the list but there would be joy to share the things I have done and the motivation and spontaneous act of doing things as they come. For example I just became a Guinness world record holder that I would share with you soon with some interesting story behind it.

Antarctica – A journey to remember

DSCF5507

As you know I bought a ticket to Antarctica for myself for my birthday and it went amazing after many years. I had the best birthday in many years or I must say since I grew up. Last year was not bad either as I was diving deep with Manta Rays in the night in Hawaii but this year I celebrated it with so many people and that made it extra special. I threw my first house party as well in Australia for my birthday and it went well with almost a dozen attendees and I must say it was like Christmas for me last when I started from the last weekend in Antarctica and then till yesterday with a house party and dinners, lunches along the way. It was like a whole week celebration and I do feel like a celebrity now. And with so many wishes here from all of you my lovely friends. I couldn’t have asked for more.

But I know you must be eagerly waiting for the pictures from Antarctica now so here they are as I was so busy the whole week that didn’t get a chance to upload them. But it’s never too late anyways. It was one of the most amazing things one can do and I guess I might take the boat one day to get there even closer than this time.

It was not just the destination, but I felt it was the whole journey and various aspect of this trip that made it special. I went to Brisbane for this trip and it was funny as I didn’t know what to pack as I was flying there to fly again and most of the time I was about to spend in the plane and the airport. But anyways as always I did pack few extra clothes and some of my dresses just in case I go out in the night to see the night life in Brisbane. But I end up spending time in the hostel I was staying watching a movie and I only had three hours of sleep before my trip which was not ideal but sometimes you do loose time when you meet awesome people to talk. And there I was with my tag around my neck like a medal and walking all proud in the airport to get to my gate for the flight. I was a bit early and all excited to get on the plane. Then slowly people started pouring from nowhere and in an hour we had more than 100 people almost. And I preferred to be at the end almost as it’s saves you queuing up for so long. But then the moment we got comfortable in the plane we were told that one of the extra engine has failed and the team of engineers is fixing this. But it was not a fortunate start so we had to de-board the plane soon for few hours to get the engine fixed properly. Fortunately we were able to fly the same day although after 4 hours but it was worth the wait. We were served Champaign soon after we boarded and then comes a snack pack that I did finish quickly as I felt a bit hungry by this time. We then flew in this big jumbo jet and I started watching the movie – ‘Last Vegas’ after having a small conversation with my fellow travellers next to my seat. I thought I might have a nap but the environment was full of excitement so I couldn’t afford a sleep at all.

Then finally we were told that soon we would spot our first iceberg and then people started getting up from their seat and start queuing up next to the window to see the first sight of the ice berg. It was all white at first (of-course what else was I expecting). But the first sight was more of a water and ice mixer to be honest but not long after we were over the top of few really big ice bergs and considering the height we were at, they were really big I must say. Also then we started getting plane ice all over and then a stream of water among those big rocks of ice. The adventure had started and now it was time to spot various sights in the same colour. Good thing is now the water is blue so it was easy to tell the ice bergs apart from the water and also we did spot a ship on the so called harbour. People were co-operative and were giving others space to see if they had their share of sight seeing over some places. Almost everyone was out there with their cameras and glasses.

Note: Do not forget your sunglasses as the light reflected from the ice is quiet strong that may even hurt your eye.

So there it was my first trip to Antarctica and my birthday gift to myself. Let me know if you have ever been there or want to go in future or if even are fascinated by the whole fact. I am waiting for your comments and opinions about this whole adventure my friend.

Australia day in Perth with a house party and lot more fun sand boarding on the way to the dessert

I had booked this trip last year as Perth and Alice Spring ware left on my list after last years domestic travelling around Australia (https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/category/travelling/australia/).

Also one of my bucket list (https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/category/bucket-list/bucket-list-2013/bucket-list-items/) item for last year  was to travel at least seven cities around Australia in 7 months. I was luckily able to do more than that though and here is the link to the same (https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/08/12/bucket-list-2013-week-15-7-places-traveled-in-3-months-rather-than-7-months/).

So here I was in Perth arrived after 9:30 PM on Friday night after finishing my work in Sydney. I was on a adventure trip I should have realized since I was trying couch surfing (https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/06/03/dont-drink-before-diving-with-great-white-sharks-week-3/) again in Perth. I usually call it adventure but some people might call it a disaster or trouble when you arrive in a new place and you don’t know where you are going to stay as your host doesn’t pick up the call and the other couch host who promised to give you a ride to your destination changes the plan at the last moment. So here I was in Perth trying to call my host but didn’t get through but you know what you learn from past and this had happened to me in Armidale before when the host didn’t pick up my call all night and I didn’t even have his address (being a newbie to couch surfing). You must be thinking why do I even do it then – couch surfing when it is so much trouble at times. But the thing is you sometime never get to experience the place like a local if you don’t stay with locals and this trip of mine to Perth re-confirmed this again.

So I was smart this time and had another contact as well in Perth for couch surfing and was able to get through Jason (another couch surfer host) and thankfully I found his place around 1 AM and was able to get few hours of sleep before I headed for the tour to  ‘Pinnacle dessert’ early morning.  His house was full of four other couch surfers that night but he was so nice that I didn’t mind staying in the space available although I did doubt my decision for a moment thinking why do I chose a night with no proper bed and rest and why do I have to even try this couch surfing. But anyways I did make a decision and stick to it and luckily I get through and had some awesome people around me during that time. For me the person who was hosting me was super nice and that changed my mind and I preferred to stay there for the whole duration because of the fact that the host as well as the other couch surfers were awesome company and comfort really didn’t matter after that and that too just for three days. I met Julie, Marie from France and Gosia, Piotrek from Poland. And I can say they make great friends along with Jason and made me feel home when I was in this new city (Perth). So I would recommend to know your priorities while trying something new as you might like it or not but you should always know what your preference would be in case you need to choose and to make sure no matter what but you have a great time doing that new thing while travelling.

So here was a new lesson for me where I learned more about myself and others. And yes we are good friends now and I miss them already 🙂 Now to continue the story, the next day I went to Pinnacle dessert and I met this guy I saw in the airport as co-incidentally he was also travelling from Sydney in the same plane and doing the same tour as mine. Hence now I had a travel buddy for this trip which made it even more fun. We went to a zoo on the way to the dessert and did a lot of sand boarding on the way back from there. The tour guide said that he hasn’t seen adrenalin junkies like us on a sand boarding place. Well I went uphill almost 10 times and other few were the same. What if my calf muscles were killing me, I couldn’t resist the urge to feel the rush of sand boarding again and again. You must visit Pinnacle dessert if you go to Perth and have some time under your belt and if you are even a little bit into adventure then do try sand boarding, its fun. So this was the highlight of my day and in the night I hit three different bars/pubs/clubs in Fremantle, Perth. It was such a fun night out with some great music and lots of lots of dancing. I met few more people during this which made the night even more fun and interesting. No wonder I love travelling as its always a surprise at every other corner even like meeting different people from different places/ areas of life.  Hence the first day was full on and I did well I must say 🙂 And I would share the highlights of Australia Day and my visit around the city in the next post.  So stay tuned. And I know I still need to share my experience of San Diego and Miami in USA which I am working on currently and would be back with some interesting things to share with you.

Bucket-List 2013 – Learn martial arts

Hello My Lovely Fellow Bloggers,

A smile and hug from Sydney. I had an amazing weekend this time like many others and I am back to share some stories and experience with you including my bucketlist adventure. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

Item #26: Learn martial arts

I have been learning Jujitsu for last many weeks now. I am still a beginner and planning to continue next year as well to make sure I get better at it. I have been a big fan of martial arts movie all my life and this year – thanks to my bucket list I was finally able to convert my dream into reality and it was such an amazing feeling to stand in-front of the instructor wearing my new Gi. It started with lot more enthusiasm as I was not injured and I could easily manage the new techniques I was learning but gradually I started getting sore and it became harder to practice more often hence I had to drop my attendance from 4 times a week to 2 times a week. And Salsa also got me injured on my feet and I had to make sure I don’t get bashed too much and protect my feet from any blow. I am getting better at it I must say as being a girl this is something I was never used to of. But now getting injured or sore and being thrown on the mat seems like a normal activity. I still want to go to the origin martial art places in China and practice to handle my chi energy one day. As of now I must practice what I am learning and focus on techniques as being small and light weight from other guys in the class it is very important for me to use more techniques than strength as otherwise it is very easy for me to get beaten while spiring. I didn’t get  a chance to take my picture in the Gi but next year when I get a little bit better, I would post more about my experience of martial arts and specially Brazilian Jujitsu (style I am learning) as a girl.

Kavita

Bucket-List 2013 : Practice Indoor Rock Climbing

After finishing many other items on my bucket list I have to say that I haven’t been able to finish each and every item on my bucket list but I am proud of myself for what all things I have done after setting my bucket list on 6th May 2103 this year with 50 items and some of which were like Visit at least 7 cities of Australia in next 7 months and Write 50 Poems that took a lot longer due to the nature of the work. Also there are some really long term goals like Get my weight back to 47 KG and Complete Advanced Scuba diving course. There are many other very interesting items as well like Swim with Crocodile & Swim with White Sharks and I call them the higlight adventures of my bucket list really. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

Item #30: Practice Indoor Rock Climbing

This one I wouldn’t say I did very often but looking at the very less time I was left with, I did go once and I would try to be more regular next year when I might have more time in hand. But thanks to everyone to make my journey so beautiful as always 🙂 Also I would update here some more items and hopefully would post the draft bucket list for next year soon 🙂 Have a wonderful day dear friends.

Bucket-list 2013 – Caving: Plughole Adventure in Jenolan Caves

Hello My Fellow Bloggers,

I am trying to do things in my bucket list as you know and my apology not to be regular with writing due to being involved in a few things in my list that are taking a lot of my time and also I am trying to fit some travelling into it. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet and I have brought some exciting new adventures that I have been involved recently.

Item #6: Try caving – Jenolan Caves in Sydney

I was a bit nervous and could feel butterflies in my stomach that day. My friend gave me some confidence by saying that I would be alright but  I think waiting for something like this was making me utterly nervous and also I had discussed this with my other girl friends and they were not quiet sure how strenuous it might be actually. So my latest adventure was caving. I recently did ‘Plughole Adventure’ caving in Jenolan caves – One of the oldest caves in the world and one of the most amazing place in New South Wales that also had got bulb installed in the area for the first time. It was a warm and sunny day but still I packed my backpack with warm clothes thinking that it might be very cold inside the cave and I was a bit worried about getting injured there due to all the crawling and sliding. As this was the first time I was trying this activity hence I seemed to be quiet naive obviously. And when I realized it involved some abseiling as well that I haven’t done before then my heartbeat was over the roof. But soon the abseiling part was done surprisingly and guess what I did pretty ok actually. I am going for canyoning soon and this was a good practice I must say. So here we were at our first hole in the cave that looked very small but surprisingly after following the instruction from the guides we were able to pass that easily by crawling, squeezing and sliding. Next part was easy and touristic as we just walked few meters to get to the root of a very old tree that was there for couple of hundred years. Its amazing to see the underground part of the nature as well at times. And next was the rocks where we saw the signatures of all the people who had been there, including a lady in  early 1800. We did get to hear a number of stories about people who had been here and explored the various routes in the cave. It was only later when we got a chance to switch off our torch and experienced pitch black darkness.

It was overall a refreshing and self awareness activity I felt after having finished it successfully and also sometimes we don’t realize how much potential we have got and we are capable of doing lot more than we actually think we can do 🙂 That’s what I find out when I overcome my fears and try to do something new.

Bucket-list 2013 – Learn dancing : Preferably street dancing or salsa

Hello My Fellow Bloggers,

I am trying to do things in my bucket list as you know and my apology not to be regular with writing as I have been few training and that takes quiet a lot of my time. Salsa and Martial arts are two of them as per my bucket list for this year. I would continue to learn these but I am here to share my experience with you all. Here is a link for my bucket list if you haven’t read it yet.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

Item #7: Learn dancing – Preferably street dancing or salsa

Yes it was in my bucket list to learn Salsa and I have been doing it with some social dancing involved. It’s been fun and some really awesome weeks learning this dance. Also I have made lots of friends due to this so my advice would be if you like dancing, then go ahead and learn Salsa. It’s fantastic to have fun and make great friends. I have always loved dancing but it was on my own as either hip hop or some individual style but I never knew how much fun it can be if you do it with a partner and also the mystery behind anticipating the move from the other side and just follow the signs while dancing to co-ordinate the next move.

Special thanks to Go Dance and the crew as they are just amazing. If you are in Sydney and want to learn Salsa then Go Dance is one of the best place to start. They also are giving a free lesson every Sunday at iQ’VIVA. They are like a family that you get when you become a part of this group and I would be enrolling for the Latin Dance Academy next year to get more serious about it 🙂

Whitest Beach in the world – Awesome way to spend weekend

Whiteheaven is one of the whitest beach in the world. So if you are in Sydney then try to go to Whitsundays and from there you can sail to Whiteheaven, Hamilton and many beautiful islands. The closest mainland area is Airle Beach and you can get there from Sydney in 1 hour by flight. Or you can choose to fly to Mackay which is bit cheaper and take greyhound bus to Airle Beach. The bus only runs once in a day each way so plan accordingly. It was a hectic trip due to less number of days but it was an amazing experience. I would share some more tips and details of my trip in the next post. And more pics from the Daydream island where I spend half of my day eating good lunch n relaxing near the pool bar so stay tuned 🙂

Bucket-List 2013 Week 25 – 25.Visit atleast one historical town in Australia (Armidale)

My Fears

This time I had a wonderful time in a city called Armidale, located in the northern tableland in New South Wales, Australia. It has population of around 25,000 people and is known as one of the higest city in Australia at 1,110 meter above sea level. It is a beautiful area covered by world heritage national parks and it has also got an airport at 1,084 metres (3,556 ft), the highest licensed airport in New South Wales. It is 5 hours 30 minutes drive from Sydney, but I don’t drive so I caught the Greyhound bus in the evening from Central, Sydney to get here. It is a bit cold in Armidale due to it’s high location hence it is advisable to carry few warm clothes usually.

I think this is one of the most relaxed and happy weekend I had for quiet a while. And as I look back, I feel that the time I had spent here in this little town was blissful. Why do I feel blissful? A number of things happened on my trip to Armidale this weekend and I was content and happy after such a wonderful weekend with few  hiccups. I left Sydney around 5:30 PM on Friday evening when everyone was getting in the party mood in the city. People were leaving work on time or even early to start feeling Friday fever. I was in the bus waiting to get out of the city and get a snooze before I arrive in Armidale at 2:30 AM in the morning. It was a nice bus ride where I met this French couple who were spending their honeymoon travelling around the world for 6 months. What an awesome way to celebrate I must say. I love meeting people from different culture as you can see and we instantly hit it off and shared a lot of experiences from past travelling. I was lucky to get the next seat free in the bus as it was enough for me to curl up and get some sleep on my way to Armidale. As this was the first time I was going there so I checked quiet a few times with the driver about where we were and that made him wonder why I might be going to this little town where he himself hadn’t been for ages. Anyways finally I was there. The moment I left the bus a wave of cold air took me by surprise. It was around -2.0 C which I was not quiet prepared to be honest and the warm clothes I was carrying were mainly for the bus in case the AC was too low which sometimes is the case when you take a bus. But I was very glad that I did have few warm clothes and I tried to wear all of them to make myself more comfortable in this cold night.

I met some locals and made some really good friends I must say. It was just such a nice trip if I look back.  I went for a walk/run to enjoy the atmosphere and that took me to the University of New England in Armidale, where there was some function taking place. Then I also visited the city and the Dangar waterfall that is 20 minutes drive from Armidale, a very serene place. There are few other nice places to visit that I didn’t get a chance to go but worth seeing if you have few days in Armidale:

• Oxley Wild RIvers Nationalpark
• Zoology Museum
• Museum of Antiquities
• New England Regional Art Museum
• Hillgrove Museum
• Cathedral Rock National Park
• Dangars Lagoon and Racecourse Lagoon
• Deeargee Woolshed
• Eastview Estate Winery
• Geraldine 4WD Recreation Park
• Mount Mutton Walking Trail
• Mount Yarrowyck Nature Reserve
• Thunderbolts Rock
• Uralla Heritage Walk
• Wollomombi Falls – This is one of the highest fall in Australia. Wollomombi Falls are located less than one kilometre south of the village of Wollomombi and approximately two and a half kilometres by road. The access turn off is one and a half kilometres from Wollomombi on the Waterfall Way towards Armidale.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 22 – Complete Advanced Scuba diving course

Hello My Lovely Bloggers,

A big hug to all from me. I had an amazing few month since I have started this bucket-list for this year. And I am back to share some more adventure with you. You know I have 50 items of all sorts of things on my bucket list for 2013. Here is also a link for the same if you haven’t had a look.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My Fears

You must be wondering what did I do this item, which item did I cross off from my big list. So here you go.

Diving in the Great Barrier Reef

Item Number #43 – Complete Advanced Scuba diving course

It was not until I was reading my own bucket list, I had time to think about diving for a while. Then I saw this item on my list – Advanced open water course in diving. Suddenly I realised it’s time to learn some thing more in diving and get back to water after a while. It was such a nice feeling to think about the course and it made it easier to get up early in the morning on the weekend to get to Manly which is a train and a ferry away (almost 1.5 hours) from me. I was there all excited except one fact in my mind. I had recently watched the movie – Open Water, where this couple was left in the ocean after diving by mistake and that actually made me a bit sceptical about this sport now. So I asked the instructor in the diving company to make sure that he remembers to bring me back. Everyone laughed at first but then I did explain the reason behind my worry. I don’t mind dying one day but if I do die for some stupid reason then it won’t be fun really and there is so much to see before getting eaten alive by sharks or die due to cold in water really.

So here I was back into the ocean and on our first dive. It was so bumpy on the way as the weather was not in our favour. But somehow the skipper anchored at one place and then we jumped into the water all geared up and after doing the buddy check (the safety check that one does on their buddy in diving as people are paired up generally in diving). We started to decent when the skipper called the instructor and asked to get back the boat as the anchor was being dragged due to the current and it didn’t look like a safe sign. So we came back to the boat and after a while we found another place to do out first dive. I had trouble equalizing today as my ears were blocked. A girl had already dropped out of the course after the first rough encounter with the waves so I was a bit nervous myself. But I couldn’t just give up, specially after 18  dives I had done so far. I was determined to get to the bottom and so I did. It was painful for a while as I felt as if my head would burst . But finally I got better and did the first dive properly. After the first dive we had time for snacks and I have been eating so much lately that it became my favourite time during the dives when we were served hot pies and other Thai snacks. I loved it even though I was a bit suspicious about being too full just before the second dive. But anyways just like the first dive again it was a bit hard today to equalize but fortunately I was able to complete this dive too. Now it was time to get back to the store and go for the night dive. I had never done three dives, all in one day so I was a bit tired but enthusiastic at the same time. And this time I had less weight on me due to the different sizes of weight belts in the store as compared to the boat, hence no matter what I did it was just hard to stay in the bottom and I would just come back to surface all the time. Yes, it’s hard for me to sink…lol. Then the instructor put some more weight in my pocket and then I was able to enjoy rest of my dive with others.

Next day we had to go a bit late for rest of the two dives that included the deep dive. Even though I was on time for the ferry but there were so many people in Sydney harbour today to go to Manly that the ferry was full twice and my heart was almost sinking thinking how am I going to get there now. Fortunately we were able to board the next boat and then I realized the bay I was aiming to reach was no near Manly. I called the store and asked the people there to wait for me so that I can join the group from the store. I took off my footwear and started running barefoot. It was funny as I was the only girl in a nice dress but running barefoot. People kept staring at me but now more important was to get to the store before the group leaves me behind. I got there all huffing and puffing and the instructor even made a joke out of it. But I was so happy as if I had done the course already. And there we go for our next two dives. It was nice and calm water today so not much trouble finding a nice spot in the blue fish point. Even better that I did not have trouble equalizing today. Hence I did descent slowly but effectively today. Then I realized my cylinder was coming off. Wow that was a news now as I didn’t know whether to stop descending or go to the surface but then my instructor asked me to keep going and I felt that he was making sure that my cylinder is still attached to my jacket a little. Then on the bottom (20 meter), he asked me to sit so that he can fix it. So I followed his instruction and he did fixed it. Man that was a bit scary initially as it would have been an emergency ascent in case the cylinder would have come off anyhow.

We all successfully completed both the dives with some snacks. It was a wonderful feeling while coming back thinking about the two days we spent training ourselves and learning about various technical stuff that would be useful in future. Thank you all for your time to read about my weekend and now I have ticked off another item from my list. Hurrah.

Confession Corner

20130707_144234

Hi All,

Greetings from a warm but windy day at my end. Today when I went out then I realized that its a nice and sunny day but you better tuck your clothes in and tie your hair as the wind is going to blow everything away a bit harder this afternoon. But no matter what, summer gives me such joy. I feel like I can open up a little more and no need to curl into myself and be scared of cold. Although it is a very personal choice but I prefer summer most of the times.

So a thought crossed my mind today as I am trying to move towards a heatlhy mind and body these days. Atleast I am trying 🙂 And being a personal trainer I guess I have abused my capabitlities enough by eating much sugar and other fatty stuff. But summer is around the corner so I better get fitter to take a plunge into the beach every now and then. Any ways so what I was thinking is it might be a time when we confess what are the things we do but we want to either get rid of them or atleast don’t want to do in our life.

Here is my list and I am looking forward to hear from you my friend to make sure we are aware of what are the things that make us feel bad or uncomfortable.

  • Loosing anything can make you feel frustated –  (example: I recently lost my umbrella, water bottle and a t-shirt, all in one day even though I never loose a thing) – This incidence made me so cynical for a while that I would not trust myself for anything and do a double or triple check for my stuff all the time. But then it was just a simple fact that I had a long and busy day that day and I just wasn’t present hence all I need to do is accept that I can be forgetful and loosing something is ok and its already past. So use of beating yourself for that. I know I might sound odd here but as I never loose stuff so even this simple thing threw me out of order for sometime.
  • I can’t keep the sweet things for long at home – I am such a sweet tooth that I avoid buying sweets rather than trying unsuccessfully to keep some for long time at home. I have eaten enormous amount of sweets all in one day many times before.
  • I don’t like confronting people in case of any misunderstanding – I tend to avoid close friends or family in case I feel hurt or upset by them. Even though I come across as an extrovert but its very easy for me to lock myself in my room to avoid any encounter with others at times.
  • I become even more serious around people I like – Specially with any guy I like I pretend to be super serious which my flatmate can easily spot now. Even when we are laughing on our way and instantly if I like someone then I go all serious with no smile on face at all. And then she would say oh looks like you liked him. And then what damage is already done as I don’t know how to smile at anyone I instantly like. Funny huh.
  • I find it boring to spend time on make up even though I know it would make a lot of difference – I always plan to change this and try to look pretty every morning but then next thing I know I am putting my sports shoes on with my backpack. And there you go – forget about the barbie doll, its a rough and tough girl leaving the house.
  • I don’t like cooking for myself usually – Although I am trying to cook healthy more and more now so many be this habit might change soon.
  • I am scared of riding a bi-cycle in Sydney as I think I might get killed in the road with no safety – Even though I used to roam in my bike all the time, its odd that I find it so scary now. I might get out there and do it one day.
  • I find it hard to stay silent with a friend – I feel awkward not to talk when around a person I know well. I find the silence very difficult to maintain and get all sorts of odd things popping up in my mind – example: what that person might think if I don’t talk. I have to build a relationship with silence I think as when ever I am not talking then I am thinking otherwise.
  • I spend more money then spending more time to save money at times – I never use credit card as I am usually scared of their safety. Even though this can save me so much money.

some of these can find obvious or very common but I guess at the moment these are the things I could think of. But I would add if I remember some more. So what is your confession for the day?

Turkish Delight and Tacos with a new Friend : Bucket-List 2013 Week 7

Oh what a day I just had. It was long and ended with a bad stomach ache. Good news is that I completed one item this week and also close to finish another one.

Item Number #40 – Enjoy tacos and margaritas with a new friend: Sydney

Yes, I did it. I made a friend at friend’s tea party last weekend and had Tacos today with him and sorry the Margarita part would not take place as I quit drinking. But we had some tacos in Newtown, Sydney in ‘Guzman Y Gomez’.

Item Number #13 – Try at least 10 different cuisines

So far I have tried the following new cuisines:

  1. Belgian Cuisine
  2. Lebanese Cuisine
  3. Vietnemese
  4. Italian
  5. Spanish

Today I tried Turkish food and it wasn’t a good experience as I got sick after that. Although I feel good as I ticked this cuisine off my list. But I guess it was just one place and cold food that got me a bit sick. Other than that my friend advised me that usually Turkish food is really good so I might try it some other time. Here are some pictures of food.

So I am closer to complete this item with 4 more cuisines. This is all for today. Hope you enjoy these pics. Wish you a very lovely week and a wonderful life ahead and we will meet soon 🙂

More Angles to this Building – Queen Victoria Building Part 2

I think either I like Queen Victoria Building a lot or it just happen to be the place I am passing through very often. I can say both really. For those who want to know more about this place I have written another post some time back and here is the link:

Don’t clap too hard – it’s a very old building. – John Osborne

So this time when I was passing through it then I saw it again in a complete different light and from different angles so couldn’t resist taking some pictures. Here they are for you.

Pub Crawl just after I quit drinking : Bucket-List 2013 Week 6

Hi All,

I am back with some stories now. We did have a night filled with fun but it was funny because I had organized this pub crawl when the same day I quit drinking. Can you believe that I had no drinks all night but just juice in a pub crawl 😉 Yes sounds weird but what could I do as I just quit drinking a day before. It was heaps of fun tough.

IMGP1719

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week (this week it was organizing a pub crawl after quitting drinking)

Now you must be wondering why I quit drinking. Yes, there is a reason behind it but more than that a thought was lingering in my mind whenever I crossed a bar and smelled alcohol it didn’t really make me feel good. I didn’t really liked the smell and also the day I quit, night before that I had enough and got myself into trouble as my vision was blurred out after 4-5 drinks and when I tried to catch a bus I had no clue where I was after getting dropped at some point that night. First time after drinking I was scared to death and lost with a dead battery. After wondering on the road for few hours I gave up. Cried a lot thinking how could I be so stupid, really it was some awful hours of my life. Not that I was ever an alcoholic but this day I did realize that drinking with newly made friends can be dangerous as you can be in trouble and be on your own. It was silly of me to get drunk and no dinner contributed to it. But that’s it after the cops saw me and helped me by first comforting me by talking nicely and asking if I need help and then getting me home safely. I then had to think the next day why I even drink. I know I could just drink a little bit less but still I had to give it a thought specially when I am going through this self-realization phase and questioning the things I do in my everyday life without even thinking at times. So it was the time I had to re-think the reasons I was drinking even if it was once a month or once a week.

My life does look perfect to many but trust me it is not. No one is perfect, all we can try to do are the things to make it better and somewhat right in our own perception as the same thing can be wrong in some one else’s perception. So here I was, thinking about how I started drinking and it was for social reasons and it always made easier to get along with people at times while travelling by giving me more confidence to speak my mind. Next I thought I was drinking as I wanted to know how different drinks taste and I did enjoy that to be honest. I tried more than 50 different cocktails last year. And it was really good and I did learned a lot more about wines and bears although I don’t like any bear other than German and Belgian. And what else were the reasons for me to drink, yes one more – I always came back alive with some really adventurous stories after more than a few drinks. Yes, I did swim in the ocean couple of times after drinking and came back alive. There is something about the water that makes me feel its calling me specially when I am too drunk….lol I now sounds really funny or weird I guess. I can’t explain as it does make me feel different and very deep inside when I hear the waves even when sober and I guess many will agree. Anyways so this was it. I had tried many drinks already so not a dire need to do it more, I have enough confidence to talk to any one around now and say whatever I think really and I think people converse better when they are sober anyways. I don’t feel weird dancing without any drinks either now. And adventure I do more without getting drunk anyways so that reason also is not required. So here it was I quit drinking.

2013-05-21 18.28.51 2013-06-07 19.15.29 2013-06-07 19.16.05 2013-06-07 19.28.46

Although every now and then I do think what I might miss if I go to Octoberfest one day 🙂 But never mind it was never a part of my life I really cherish so I can spare myself any more trouble due to it. And you know what I feel really good and proud to take this decision now.

So here I was with bunch of friends on a pub-crawl. I did have to order cranberry juice as it does looks like vodka mix so no body stare at you thinking what are you doing in pub or bar with juice in your hand. Some people do that at times though. I had a list of 7 famous bars that day and it went really well as we visited 6 of them and girls loved it. And it was something I laughed about later as every time I was telling the bar man to give me juice and also saying I just quit yesterday so no alcohol for me please. And some people just loved hearing this as they were not drinking behind the bar anyways.

So here was the last week activity which I would count as something new for the week under my bucket list. Also here is the list of some awesome pubs in Sydney if you are around.

  1. DeVine, 32 Market St, Sydney 2000
  2. Baxter Inn, 156 Clarence Street, Sydney 2000
  3. Mojo Record Bar, 73 York St , Sydney 2000
  4. Stitch Bar, 61 York St, Sydney 2000
  5. Palmer and Co, Abercrombie Ln, Sydney 2000
  6. The Morrison Bar and Oyster Room, 225 George St, Sydney 2000
  7. Blu Bar On 36, 36/176 Cumberland St, Sydney NSW 2000

Stairway to Heaven

This is one part of Town Hall in Sydney…I did take some more pics of the same place. This building has so much to offer. You just need a fresh perspective every time you visit there. I was there for few minutes trying to catch the train but it was a nice opportunity to capture some nice shots…coming next 😉

Don’t Drink before Diving with Great White Sharks – Bucket-List 2013 Week 5

Finally with a cup of ginger and lemon tea I am gaining my senses back. It’s been quiet a long period I would say since I had left for Adelaide and from a simple weekend away gateway it turned into a roller coaster adventure with a lot of things packed into very few days.

Item Number #23 – Swim with White Sharks and Item Number #10 – Try couch surfing in Australia

Eyeballing the cage

I left for the Airport to complete another item on my bucket list and it was couch surfing and visit one of the 7 new city/town in next 7 months. It was a cloudy day in Adelaide and I was not sure what I will be doing in this part of South Australia looking at the weather. All I had planned was to book a return ticket and arranged to couch surf there. Other than this I had no clue what I am supposed to do in this new place. I am getting used to of this now – going to a new place with no plan and do stuff there accordingly. Only if I knew I will end up encountering a dozen sharks after no sleep and few drinks one of these nights I was about to spend in South Australia. Yes right, it is not a good idea to drink if you are going to dive with great white sharks my dear friends. And this is coming from my personal experience.

I arrived at the place I was supposed to stay and there was a surprise waiting for me there. I realized that I was about to meet few fellow couch surfers and talk all day about life and philosophy and learn a lot of new things today. I didn’t have much sleep the day before the flight so I was a bit tired and cloudy weather seemed perfect to relax and wind down after 16 very busy days of my life (including sailing lesson and attending many social events other than trying to come up with many ideas to finish few bucket list items and not to say full time work with two night time deployments). I was feeling so happy to finally get this weekend for myself. I was at the door of my host in Adelaide and Sebastian, fellow German couch surfer welcomed me in this new place. It was a different feeling to be in this house. Something spiritual about the house and peaceful environment. I felt so happy instantly and started to relish the beauty of this new place with a garden, a pet cat and few chicken in the backyard. The lady who was hosting me wasn’t around so Sebastian, who was also couch surfing there gave me a quick run of the place and offered me some Jasmine tea. It was quiet refreshing. We talked about a lot of things including bin diving or so called dumpster diving. The people here were doing some bin diving which I had no clue what it was so I really enjoyed learning about it. And guess what here is a complete guide about it as well – Dumpster-Dive

Then I met another girl named Ariana, who was living there with the host (lady). She is a brilliant and charming 19 years old Indian girl. I enjoyed my conversation with her about India, social problems in India and a lot more. I already felt that I am going to miss staying here once I am back. Marion, the lady who was hosting me here, also arrived from Victoria as she was gone to attend a retreat and we discussed her experience there. Another couch surfer Nick joined us towards the night. Marion is a great lady and an awesome host. Last year she hosted more than 200 people at her place. Amazing right. Here I was enjoying my first couch surfing experience with such an amazement.

Next day I prepared cheesy egg frittata with Nick for three of use (Nick, Sebastian and myself) as Marion already had her breakfast and Ariana had left for her Art school workshop. And guess what it was the best meal I ate after a while, may be because I was cooking 😉 Anyways I felt home at that place and we started making plans for the day when I started checking about Shark Diving in the area as mentioned by Ariana a day before. I am not sure what came over me and I booked the returned ticket to Port Lincoln in another two house for the dive as it was one of the things on my bucket list. I was lucky when I called the tour company and they say the tour is being operated everyday and there are quiet good chances to see shark these days. Only issue was my return flight was around 6:30 PM and the tour doesn’t usually end till late evening. I was a bit in mess now as I had to be back somehow to be back at work on Monday morning. Here I was sitting in-front of the chair and wanted to bang my head against the wall thinking of my hastiness at times. But any ways I saw this as an opportunity to complete the task on my bucket list and felt quiet enthusiastic and somehow I felt I can make it and things will be alright. So I booked a night in Port Lincoln and early morning (6 AM) tour for cage diving with the great white dangerous sharks. I left Adelaide with a note that if they don’t hear back from me then I might be in some shark’s stomach 😉

I arrived at the hostel where I was staying for the night – YHA. I already started meeting people who were going for the dive or who had done it. I was so excited that I can’t put it into words. I met this group of English guys and had my dinner talking to them about their experience with the sharks and sharing my experience of my bucket list so far. More people joined us and here I was playing different weirdly named card games (one of them was shithead, I wasn’t sure if it was the right name really). I was enjoying the game when everyone started drinking wine and I was offered some as well. I thought for a moment but then joined everyone else. I am not sure what was I thinking really as after few drinks I was not sure how am I going to make it for the early morning departure to the port. And on top of that I agreed to go to the pub with others. Here I was feeling all uneasy with the constant reminder of the tour so I went outside the pub to get some air. The worst was still waiting though. When I wanted to go back the bouncer didn’t allow me in saying that after 1 AM no one is allowed back into the pub. It was one of the most stupid thing I had ever heard whereas the group I came with was still inside. I called a taxi and made my home to get some sleep then. Only when I arrived at the hostel I realized that someone from the group had borrowed my key as they didn’t have their key handy. This was not looking good anymore. Fun time seemed to be over. I had two choices – Try to sleep in the living area in the couch. But then I had to get my key back to check out in the morning. I tried to knock on the door but no one opened the room I was staying. I was already regretting over the decision of drinking tonight. I decided to stay awake till others come back and get my key back to let myself into my room. It was so hard to keep my eyes open. I made my way to the kitchen and made some tea for myself. There was some free food in the fridge and I got some munchies from the shelf to make sure that I am fully awake this night no matter what. It was getting really hard to manage things at this stage now. I was partially awake when after few hours may be around 3 AM when two guys came from the group and asked me what I am doing here. I explained that I do not have the key. They felt sad for me after knowing the whole story and stayed with me in the living room to wait for others to be back so that I can get my key back. I was more assured now that I might be able to make it to the port tomorrow morning.

Finally I got my key around 4 AM and let myself in the room and got ready to sleep for two hours as the tour bus was supposed to be there by 6:30 AM. It was going to be the most ridiculous thing I had ever done I felt. But anyways I was in the flow making my journey more adventurous then it could be I thought. But it was still not that easy. There were many knocks on the door all night as there were quiet a few people drinking from my room and none of them had key. Yes it was a day of loosing key I felt. 6 AM – Someone’s alarm went off. I woke up quickly and saw others getting ready to leave. And I ran after them and realized that they didn’t bother to ask the driver to wait for few minutes. Here I was all ready but had missed my bus. I called the tour company and thankfully they send me another cab. I was finally able to catch the boat.

We all were welcomed with some early morning snacks. And I got introduced to this couple from Perth who were here to celebrate their second anniversary. What a great way to celebrate, although people were making jokes around wife to have a insurance for the husband. I didn’t take much time to drift to deep sleep when we left for a 3 hour journey to Neptune Island for our dive.

Finally some one from the crew woke me up and asked if I can go with the first group. Wow, this was quiet a wake up call now as my stomach was hurting with this bumpy ride till here and I still was suffering from the hangover. Really, Do I look so keen? I felt that it’s better to just go so I accepted to be the part of the first group. And they gave me all the gears to get ready.

It was quiet a relief when I came to know that we do not have to carry cylinder as they had tubes to supply oxygen in the cage. We were soon getting interviewed about how excited we were to see the sharks. To be honest I couldn’t be more dazed doing something like this after a really big night. But I had to smile on the camera no matter what as it was going to be my big moment, if only I survive and not get eaten by any shark interested in me. I finally got into water and felt a surge of excitement in me. My inside diver was coming out full of curiosity. I soon was a normal diver with my brain functioning quiet well now under water. And I started looking for the sharks around. It wasn’t long that we started spotting few of them swimming around. Soon we were a bit shaken in the cage by their excitement to catch the food thrown from the boat. One of them even hit the cage so hard that I had to hold myself back not to swim out the gap in the cage. It was mind blowing to see them so close where I had an eye on the gap as there are stories of small sharks entering the cage through it.

Finally after an hour we went out the cage which was good as I was freezing by then and was done with shark seeing. We had our lunch once we got changed after a shower. I was tired and happy and excited all at the same time. I felt as if I was mesmerized by these beautiful but dangerous creatures. I was so lucky in terms of timing as today it was a small group of people and we got to see shark soon as compared to other days. Hence we headed back way too early – 2 PM. And got back by 4:30 PM and I had enough time to catch my flight back to Adelaide.

Posing with Dani, the host in the tour – she is just awesome 🙂

I am lucky when it comes to meet people I guess as on my way to Airport I got to share the taxi with this another amazing group of Tennis players who shared their experience of traveling around the world and it didn’t let me feel bore on the way to airport or another hour spent there. I was over the moon now after everything was falling in place. When I got back to Adelaide, I went back to the same place I was couch surfing. I met Marion and Sebastian there. I offered to cook some Indian curry and rice. We all shared the meal and it was the perfect way to end this trip really. Next morning my flight was very early (6 AM). Yes, this is early for me usually as I had to be there by 5 AM and that meant I had to get up by 4:30 at least. Marion was so helpful that she offered me lift to the airport in the morning. We enjoyed music – Santana by Carlos Augusto Alves Santana, a Mexican and American musician. I loved it. I was able to catch my flight to Sydney and went to work straight from the airport. I have done it few other times last year so it was OK to see people staring at me thinking I might have lost my way to enter with my big backpack.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 3 – Sailing Lesson

20130525_155935

Hi My Dear Friends,

I am back with more updates for 3rd week. As promised I am here with the pictures of one of the items in my bucket-list for this year.

Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you haven’t had a look.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

One items already finished earlier this week: One item crossed off the list with an awesome day

Also another post on the week before since I have started this bucket list of mine.https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/bucket-list-2013-week-1-belgian-beer-and-a-girl-with-a-hood/ and updates from week 2 – https://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/05/22/bucket-list-2013-week-2-bridge-climb-social-event-and-a-lot-more/

Now I had an awesome day as I was out learning how to sail. To be honest it was a bit bizarre to put this on my bucket list to try I felt few times as this is not something I had ever thought about. But I am really glad that I did it as it was so much to learn and awesome fun.

item number #39 – Learn to sail in the world’s best harbor: Darling Harbor

Started walking around the harbor for the class and took some amazing shots as otherwise I am hardly out of bed by this time on a weekend so it was good to have some fresh air. It was quiet refreshing actually. Then I went for my class on time which I am proud of 😉 especially on the weekend.

I was about to start my course for Hunter 33 boat. And David was our instructor. The Hunter 33 is a combination of comfort and performance. With the beam located well aft, there is more interior space, without sacrificing performance. David is an amazing instructor and very patient as well  as I was so naive with any terminology of this sailing world and the various concepts he was teaching us about. But he was encouraging at the same time so it helped quiet a lot to learn more in short time. Its a two days course to introduce a newbie in the field. If I go out on a boat then I would love to sail it now 😉 Here are some shots for the day. And I am very happy to cross off one more thing from my bucket-list.

Bucket-List 2013 Week 2 – Bridge Climb, social event and a lot more

Hello My Dear Friend,

A big warm hug and beautiful smile for you 🙂

You must have been thinking where have I gone after declaring this big bucket list here. I have been busy doing the stuff I promised I would do and guess what, its been awesome doing things like this. I am back to share the snippets of my week. Here is also a link for my bucket list for 2013 if you haven’t had a look.

My Promise to live life – My BucketList 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it. My Fears

Also another post on the week before since I have started this bucket list of mine.

Belgian beer and a girl with a hood

Now coming back to last week I had so much planned for last week and everything went quiet well leaving me a little tired after the week. I started my week with some

Item Number #21 – Eat in one of the best restaurant each month – Bar H, Surry Hills

It was my flatmate/friend’s birthday a month ago and I had booked this place for almost a month to celebrate. This place is usually booked for few weeks in advance but finally we had an amazing dinner here last week. It was a seven course banquet with red wine in Bar H (http://www.barhsurryhills.com/). My friend just loved it so next time you are in this area, this place is definitely worth trying.

It’s a 1 chef’s hat restaurant (Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide 2013), run by MasterChef guest chef Hamish Ingham.  Our courses included Crispy skinned spatchcock, Braised beef short rib, Chilled silken tofu and Steamed pork wontons accompanied with leaf salad and jasmine rice. We had an awesome night with good food, good wine and nice music.

Item Number #30 – Try at least 10 different cuisines -Lebanese Cuisine

Yes that’s right, I did try Lebanese cuisine last week and that too a kebab that every one talks about. Being vegetarian all my life, I never really tried a lot of things. But now that I have been more flexible, then I am able to choose lot more things in various cuisines. I loved this Kebab other than beef which think I do not enjoy so much so I better avoid eating it. My friend Jonathan introduced me to this food and I enjoyed his company with this awesome new cuisine. Although there are so many more cuisines on my list as of now and I would say that this bucket list is just an excuse to eat good food every now and then and trying new flavours for a person like me who usually sticks to the tried and tested food generally.

Item Number #47 – Climb the coat-hanger, Sydney Harbour bridge

Now that I have ticked off another item from my bucket list completely, I would like to share my experience with you more in detail in another post as I don’t feel I would do any justice if I try to write only few lines about my experience of climbing the most famous bridge of Australia. So let me come back to you with another post for the same to enjoy my experience with me on top of the Harbour bridge 🙂

Item Number #50 – Do one thing new each week – Organized a social event for 10 people

This is an ongoing work that I will keep my mind busy working and organizing something new. It really helps me to keep my creative edge working to plan something different each week and trust me, a lot of good things are coming out of it. Last week I organized a social get together event in a well known glamorous urban oasis  – Ivy (http://merivale.com.au/ivy).

It offers eight bars and beautiful restaurants. Here I was organizing this for people I had never met before and it end up into a successful event where people just loved it and I made some new friends there. We had planned to go to this one pub but then looking at the interested parties we went to another pub – Establishment in the city (http://merivale.com.au/establishmentbar) for few more drinks.

It also falls under the same ownership. Then few girls were hungry so we went to favourite night spot – Hungry Jacks for some snacks where we were able to talk without any noise or loud music.

Later we headed to another famous place ‘ The Argyle'(http://www.theargylerocks.com/). The night was just amazing with these new friends I just made and we all enjoyed it a lot.

The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. Bucket-List 2013 Week 1 – One item complete with few fun days

2013-05-06 17.48.10

Hello my dear blogger,

You know what, I can call myself a bucket-Lister now. And you know why because I have already started the adventure from yesterday. Sorry couldn’t give you update as I was busy with an awesome event I was attending and came home really late. Wait I will share all my fun with you of course.

Here you go first thing first – As you know I had finalized my bucket-list for 2013. If you don’t know yet then here is my adventurous and fun list for this year.

Bucket List for 2013

A little bit different and also another post about the fears I have in my life with a reflection of other reader’s experiences along with it.

My fears

So now you know what is my item number #46 ? Right ‘Have a schooner at Australia’s oldest pub: Fortune of War pub, Sydney‘.

And guess what I have done it…yippi…today. I thought why not cross of some easy and quick things during the week. But as you would know from my list of fears – one of them is to go to a bar or pub by myself. So here in this item it was not just one thing but two really. It was about completing the task and what made it more challenging was that I can’t  walk into a bar/pub by myself. So here I was avoiding to go there and end up working in office till 7 PM and finally thought to go home and leave this task for some other day. Then suddenly a thought came in my head – what if I just do it that way I will be able to cross of one item from my list and say that I have done it. And then I started walking to the oldest pub in Sydney – ‘Fortune of War pub’. And while going there I tried to be cool about the whole thing so started listening to music, although my brain kept telling me to go back as I was getting so nervous thinking what will I do there? Will I be able to even name the drink? I have of course been to many pub/bar but just not by myself. It was the longest path I ever walked to any pub I think. But as soon I got there, I smoothly entered there and ordered my drink. It was surprisingly smooth. As if I am just used to of going to pubs and drink by myself. Although a nervous feeling kicked again looking around and not seeing many girls and none of them were by themselves. But there were many guys by themselves. I don’t mind to talk to any stranger but this is not the kind of place I really prefer as people have different agendas and I was there just for my bucket-list and it could be a hard job to explain that to some one really drunk. But anyways I was lucky to get a call from my flatmate and I had company on phone and she couldn’t believe that I went to bar myself and couldn’t stop laughing. And it took me 30 minutes to finish my drink and then I finally took a train home. And the picture above is not from today as guess what I didn’t take any picture as that might have looked a bit too much – going to bar and taking pictures 😉

Now also few more awesome things happened today and yesterday. Let’s finish stories of today first. I was coming back home when I saw my next door neighbors sitting outside their house. I went inside feeling that I would like to get to know these people. I felt a but shy going to them and initiate a conversation at my own. But then the beer early this evening was handy. I went back and said hello to them and it turned out into a more than half hour session of laugh and get-to-know-each-other time that I just loved it. I then realized that I have awesome people living not far from me. So yes, sometimes if you feel something in your heart its worth doing it or at least giving it a go. I am just learning this as I have my own fears and hesitations. But this year I will set my soul free…lol…or at least try to do so.

Martin Place – On the way to the bar!

Now time for the weekly item #50 – Do one thing new each week

What could I have done? Guess..oh just take a wild guess…alright I will tell. I have been vegetarian all my life. Only recently I had chicken in the plane from Sri Lanka to India when they mixed my choice of meal and I didn’t want to stay hungry so I got myself into eating chicken. I should make it clear that I don’t have any religion restriction for the same as I am not religious. But its moreover my choice. So yesterday I was out with other people and they ordered steak. And I thought why not do this as new thing for the week. And I ordered it without knowing what it is exactly. Then one person in the group realized that I am vegetarian and they felt I might have ordered it by mistake but there I was not going to back out from it even after know what it was now. I wouldn’t say I liked it but at least now I know how it taste. It’s more about trying new things and opening my senses to things and tastes, smells, feelings and a lot more this year. I still prefer vegetarian food but now I can survive no matter where I go as I have removed that hesitation from inside me.

Item Number #50 – Overcome one fear

This is an area where I have been working upon more than one fears at the moment. You can check them out in my list of fears. Here they are:

  1. Fear of loneliness
  2. Fear of boredom
  3. Fear of rejection
  4. Fear of unknown

I am working on my first two fears by staying happy and comfortable with my own company at home. I write and try to lessen the feeling of not being able to do anything when at home by relaxing and writing and then listen to my heart and do something fun if I feel like. Not by planning but more spontaneous I would say.

Third one (rejection) is something I am working upon as well by reasoning the reason for others reaction or behavior and also by not taking things personally. I can notice the difference in small things now which is a good sign. But you know what I am not even feeling that people are rude as I am trying to put myself into their shoes. But of-course it will take some time.

What keeps me alive – Want to know? Let’s have a look

Adventure, happiness, joy, peace, self-respect, love  for nature & people, curiosity ..are some of the most important things that keep me alive…here are some of the moments that made me feel alive truly. I would love to share them with you are you are an integral part of my life now dear friends 🙂

Walk on Water – Sydney Harbor Bridge

Constructed till19th January 1932 and opened since 19th March 1932, Sydney Harbour Bridge has been used by countless people on foot as well as by other means including bicycle. The bridge was designed by a British firm called  Dorman Long and Co Ltd. Still standing tall as an icon it was also known as “The Coathanger” because of its arch-based design.

New year is Sydney is spectacular and the bridge is an integral part of it. Also the more adventurous souls can try to climb this bridge and get an amazing view of the city. I was walking home one day and while crossing the bridge thought of clicking some pics of the bridge that I would like to share with you.

Now that you have already seen the pics lets take a look at some very interesting facts about the bridge:

  • It a 1439 steps climb to the top of the bridge
  • A very interesting fact is that the pylons are only decoration! They don’t really hold it up
Fact shared by Lyn (http://theencouragingscribe.wordpress.com) – Actor Paul Hogan, of Crocodile Dundee fame, used to be a rigger on the Sydney Harbour bridge and spent his days painting the iconic landmark.
  • It is the second longest single arch bridge in the world after the Bayonne Bridge in the US (70 cms longer than this)
  • Average traffic has increased from planned 11 thousand to 160 thousand till date
  • The Bridge is painted grey because it was the only paint they had enough of at the time!
  • The area it takes to paint it is the size of 60 sports fields.
  • The payment (20 million dollars) of the  bridge took 56 years to be made.

Some more typical facts about the bridge:

  • The Length of each arch span is 503 metres
  • The Height to the top of the aircraft beacon is 141 metres above mean sea level
  • Width of the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s deck is 49 metres
  • Clearance for shipping and vessels is 49 metres
  • Height of the Bridges pylons are 89 metres above mean sea level

India (Sweet Crowded Home) – Mixed feeling while coming home

Last day in Sydney was not as I was expected. It was a mixed feeling of leaving the place that I felt home for two years with a hope to come back one day. It was the bitterness of leaving the loved ones and sweetness of seeing the family back in homeland. I was not sure what exactly I was feeling as it was not one clear feeling but mix of a lot of emotions. I was supposed to be happy like other times when I fly as it starts a new adventure. But this time it was more like leaving some unfinished business and not knowing what future has got in store.

Saying good bye to each friend personally with lunch or dinner was like bidding your last good bye. But I am sure I will be healthy and wise to come back and many more dinners and lunches will follow. I was more emotional to leave my new place which was home for less than 2 months as it became like the peaceful place where I could retire after a tiring day or feel safe when feeling frustrated from everything else. I had a lovely evening walk with my friend/flat-mate the day before I was leaving. It was first time in 2 years while living in Sydney that I had a family in form of friends. So in total it was like when you are a kid and you have to leave your friends and known surroundings when your parents move to a new town or new country. Although the child was my inner self and adult in this case was my higher self.

2013-02-24_16.14.44[1]

Anyways flight boarded with the same attitude of a traveler – old habits die hard. All rough and tough look on my face as if saying – ‘Who Cares’. It was an evening flight so right time for dinner. First flight was from Sydney to Singapore where I quenched my thirst of movies with two new movies. It was only towards the end of the flight when I was falling asleep. A jolt woke me up and before I could behave as if the plane hit a disaster, I soon realized that we had landed in Singapore. I walked out like a Zombie but still trying to look super cool, being the single girl travelling. A staff person helped me with the next flight details to New Delhi and I killed an hour doing some window shopping which made me feel sick as I am usually never in mood of shopping when I travel (because I travel light and with only one carry on back pack, excluding this trip, and this usually doesn’t allow me to buy anything extra).

2013-02-24_16.16.16[1]

Following other fellow passengers I boarded another flight for another meal and few entertainment shows to keep me awake. It was 2:40 AM in the morning, people were trying to continue their sleep and I felt the pressure to follow everyone else. I had one extra vacant seat next to mine where I got the luxury to keep my body in horizontal position in last 20 hours.

2013-02-24_16.17.27[1]

It was funny how a little bit of space can make you so happy at times where you can spread your clumsy body parts and feel yourself for some time. But it was not supposed to continue for long and I woke up by the menu offered by the air hostess to the passengers in the seat ahead. Anyways I felt compelled to eat for what I had paid hence I got up and tried to open my eyes to see till where the crew had made progress in asking for menu preference. I thought of using the entertainment unit to help keep me awake. I soon got indulged into a movie and then it became easier to keep an eye on the staff serving food. I ordered vegetarian food although I was not sure whether I was hungry 3:0 AM in the morning or not. I gave myself the benefit of doubt thinking that it might be morning back in Sydney. So I threw another plate of unwanted food into my stomach. I felt like an eating machine as since yesterday I was up and eating and walking and sitting and many other routine tasks but sleeping. I think this is exactly what happens – you lose track of time and also the capability of making the right decision, when you are so tired and sleepless. Reminds me of Sleepless in Seattle 😉

Two and a half movies on the way to India and time to land in New Delhi now. Again my traveler spirit jumps at the right time when almost everyone in the plane had left; I bid my farewell to the nice staff of Singapore Airlines knowing that they had been serving me especially when I was the only passenger awake all through the flight. One time the air hostess actually handed me over the full can of juice when she realized I was demanding water or juice every twenty minutes.

2013-02-24_16.21.19[2]

Now time to get on high alert as I was entering New Delhi airport. It is an old habit of being aware of my surroundings (don’t confuse it with spirituality) as this has more to do with making sure I do not become a victim of any pick pocketing or theft. It was only when a lady tapped on my shoulder and asked if I had an iphone. It made me feel a bit anxious as to why she is asking such question but she soon answered my silent question by telling me that she wants to inform her family that she has arrived here. I quickly emailed her family regarding the same. Custom clearance was easy and spotting my checked in luggage didn’t take me long either. I was now on my way outside the airport when I realized that taxi and other services don’t accept any card. I had to request the security in the airport to let me in to change currency. I know right I should have done it before but I learn this new rule when you can’t take your luggage in the premises of airport once you check out. After changing some money I was on my way to get a transport home when I simply asked a guy outside airport if the metro services have started from airport. Good news was that it was up and running for a month now. I paid 30 Rupees (way cheaper than hiring a car or taxi that is 350 to 450 Rupees) and went to Sector 21 (near my destination). It is advisable to check where you are going to stay as you can always take the metro from the airport. It is cheaper and very convenient air conditioning option.

Journey home was not very simple but it was nice to be in India with friends and family. As no matter how much different India is from other countries but it is the warmth of people that makes you smile and feel good. And now that I am in India be ready for many interesting posts to come from this colorful and spiritual culture. Also soon here we will be celebrating one of the biggest festival – Holi (festival of colors) in March. Hence I will update you with the same.

Little things can make big difference

Life is struggle and fun at times. Sometimes its hard to live each moment when stuck in hardship, whereas its fun living a day or week when happy. But the most important thing to remember is that little things can make a big difference at times. I felt it so many times. For example waiting for the plane for two hours in Hawaii and then came to know that the flight is delayed for another two hours. I was tired and exhausted as had to wake up 4 AM in the morning to catch the flight and now it was cold and long wait in the waiting room. Could not get enough sleep as was worried to wake up this early and now extremely cold in the airport so can’t sleep any ways. Then finally came close to board and got a compliment from the security that you have got beautiful eyes. Don’t know whether my eyes were partially closed or open but I think that made a big difference at the start of my day and brought a smile on my face.

There was a guy sleeping on the floor as we were boarding the flight and I felt that he hasn’t realized that the flight has started boarding so I shook him to wake him up and asked if he is waiting for this flight and if yes then the flight has started boarding. He was a bit dazed (may be too tired) and then gave me a grateful smile and thanked me that I woke him up as otherwise he would have missed the flight. I met him again in Sydney in the airport and he thanked me again for waking him up. It was just a small thing but it made a big difference in his day.

I met the fellow passenger in the plane sitting next to me. I started talking to him and he informed me that he is sponsoring a child in Philippines for last few years. He pays 50 AUD every month and it pays for the school fees, clothes and other necessary things for this kid. It was amazing how 50 Dollar each month made such a big difference in some one’s life.

It is true that we shall never ignore that one small act of kindness can make a huge difference is some one’s life. Its not only money but even a smile can give some one else a reason to smile. So lets start every day by one simple act and if we practice every day then we are actually making difference in 365 lives at least. And this is a big number. I will try to do this and lets see if you can try as well. Let me know what did you do different as it will inspire rest of us as well.

Going to Singapore, end up in Bangkok – Holidays turned into Adventure

Image

It was a sunny and beautiful day. I had packed everything I need. I was sure that I am going to enjoy this well deserved break as I reached Sydney airport. I was so excited to go to Singapore for the first time for 5 days. I was flying with this airline also for the first time. All arrangements were done – accommodation booked, sightseeing pass was booked and I had all the required documents with me. This time nothing is going to be wrong – no delays in reaching airport (as I missed the plane few months ago when I was going to Brisbane due to relying upon the public transport), no paper missing and all is good. Now it’s time for holidays. Hurrah!!

But I didn’t know that there is a surprise waiting for me. I handed over my passport to the person behind the checking counter. She looks at the passport and looked at me quizzically. Now what could go wrong I thought? She told me madam you cannot fly. What she said, I repeated to myself. She sensed my confusion and answered without any delay that I haven’t got the appropriate visa to go to Singapore. But a friend of mine informed me that we can get visa on arrival.  I told her about the same but she then informed me that I hold an Indian passport hence I should first apply for visa and she can postpone my flight. I was not sure how is that going to work as I have got leaves for 3 days and 2 days over the weekend and no way was I going to get visa before that. I had to leave the counter any ways to decide what to do now.

There was a moment when I wanted to let the tears trickle down my cheeks thinking here goes my holidays and I should not be preparing for my own travel now onward  But then a voice came into my head and said – You are not giving up. You are going to fly today to Singapore. I instantly ran to check internet in the airport to see if there is a way I can get some help in this situation. I called the embassy but they said it will take at least 4-7 days process and that too in Canberra not like I could drive to some office in Sydney for immediate assistance. And I couldn’t postpone my holidays due to the deadlines I had to meet at work in next couple of weeks. But I was determined to get out of the country and have a well deserved break after working almost 4 weekends in a row.

I went back to the checking counter and asked if they have any alternative in my situation. They didn’t want to take risk of flying me to Singapore just in case I can’t get visa in Singapore so they gave me an option if I fly out of Singapore and go to some other country then I can get transit visa in Singapore maximum of 3 days. She asked me if I want to go to India from Singapore. It sounded like a joke as I wasn’t sure whether she was familiar with the geographical distance from Singapore to India and that too when I had only 5 days of leaves. It was like having a holiday in the air, touchdown India and come back to Sydney. Although I didn’t express my amusement to her, but I knew I am never going to forget her suggestion.

I checked the available options with them as they could fly me to Japan, Bangkok and few other places. Suddenly I decided to fly to Bangkok and asked them to book the same. I lost money on the return ticket from Singapore to Sydney and paid extra money for the flight from Singapore to Bangkok but the money didn’t matter now as I need to do this. Although in the first place I made this plan because of the available deal on flights. So it was getting funnier when I was paying even more than regular price of flights. But somehow I had to make a choice between the holidays somewhere nice or back to work behind my desk. So I chose the holidays. I checked in with the new itinerary and a new destination – Bangkok. I always wanted to go to Thailand but not in this manner. I had dreamed to go there for at least 2 weeks and enjoy and now I was going to be there for 2 days.

But no worries I am on the plane and its going to be awesome I told myself. Although the story doesn’t end here. There was more to come. I had booked a flight to Bangkok but not from Bangkok to Sydney yet which means I can go to Singapore but not Bangkok without having a return ticket. I thought that I can manage as I will book that online. And I am good at finding good deals anyways. So here I come, Singapore – city of beautiful buildings I felt. I loved the idea of going to Singapore as I have always admired the well planned cities not that I don’t like the old cities. I felt a sense of triumph after landing in Singapore as I had passed the first hurdle – flying to Singapore. And now I had to deal with another one – Flying to Bangkok. But that can wait as I have 3 days here and I don’t want to muddle that. I was given strict warning in the Airport saying that I should not be staying in Singapore for more than 3 days. I was alright I thought, no big deal. But I was not aware of what’s there in store for me still.

I checked-in in my place and explained that I have to leave in 3 days and not 5 so asked them to charge me only for 3 days. With a little bit of discussion and explaining my situation that got settled. Now it was time for dinner – It was late in the evening so I went out and had a quiet dinner and came back to check internet in my place with a strong feeling that I will book the tickets for Bangkok now. I searched various options and the price first blew my mind as I was paying fortune to go there for two days. Still I muster some courage to book it, now what’s that – A message saying that a security code is being sent to my mobile to confirm the ticket. Bugger, I haven’t activated international roaming on my phone. I never do when I travel so that I have some quiet holidays without any interruption from the people I know. I never had to book anything from other countries either so I never found out the options to do that otherwise I could call my bank and deactivate the phone security for some time. Now I felt that I was in soup. It was 2 AM already and I had to visit many places next day. I checked Facebook  no one from my inner friend circle was online who could help me with the ticket. I had no choice but sleep.

Next day I told myself to forget about the ticket and focus on visiting the places I have got the pass for. I started my day very enthusiastically and cover 3 places in a day with my excellent management. I know the other matter doesn’t show much of that but things happen and there is first for everything. So any ways I was back in my place all tired. I chose internet over food and got some fruits that I could binge upon while trying to book the tickets again. I saw one of my friends online today. I felt it’s my lucky day. My friend was working in Europe at that time. I felt a bit embarrassed but came to the point very quickly and asked him to book my ticket explaining my situation. He was so nice that without much fuss he started booking the same. I gave all my details but then he pinged me on Facebook chat back that the payment page is leading him to another page saying that the site can’t be trusted. Now it was new. He tried couple of time but the same message and I didn’t want to trouble him anymore. Now I had one more day and it was too late. I send an email to another friend of mine explaining the situation and went to bed thinking about the next day.

I woke up bit uneasy thinking about the ticket and checked my email first thing in the morning. A reply from my friend was waiting for me giving me few options with flight he could book for me. A sense of relief flooded me. I quickly replied to him and started for another day’s adventure more carefree today as I was going for the forest adventure that was going to tire me physically. I had an amazing day even the rain in the evening didn’t touch my excitement and I did the night safari in the zoo. I came back and saw that the ticket was waiting for me. I could fly on time to Bangkok now. I utilized the last day in Singapore to explore a toy museum which was nice as it brought back the memories from my childhood. Although it was another adventure to go to Bangkok without much preparation but I loved my holidays and saw more things than I could imagine in 5 days. It was tiring but full of adventure I would say. Thanks for reading this. I am looking forward to my next holidays now.
